In fact, it was a terrible business move. The Giants brass gave you a big contract and have to eat a considerable amount of dead money on this years cap by trading you away.

They were willing to do that just to be rid of you. So you are right Odell, it was personal. Maybe if you focused more on being a football player you might still be here.
This may be what dep is referring to. He's a very strange guy

He's an entertaining character who used to play for the team, got traded for good value, and is a funny foil.

Those two fighting would be more of a slap and tickle. Baseball players would brawl more meaningfully than those two.

I wonder what Dorsey thinks of his team’s complete lack of focus this summer? He was handed a fuckload of can’t miss high draft picks by his predecessor and has turned it into maybe a 2 year window before their cap bites them... and their players don’t seem at all interested in focusing on themselves and how they can help their own team finally win a playoff game in over 20 years.

Being a fan of a franchise means you're in it for more than just the raw sport being played on the field.

It's a long-term, reality drama, following a organization over years.

So yes, as part of following the part of the 'drama' of the Giants, we are paying attention to Odell Beckham.

Beckham has a problem with everything, and people like that tend to not realize the common variable in equations is them.

Too bad it turned out this way. After his rookie year there was a bunch of chatter about him getting advice from Lebron and MJ on how handle success -- that clearly didn't work.

I'm surprised Coughlin didn't nip it in the bud, he was typically pretty good with that type of player.

What several guys are you referring to? Who has claimed they were screwed with or lied to?

OBJ is the only guy we traded who’s talking (not a peep from Vernon), and even he’s never said he was screwed with or lied to, his gripe is the Giants didn’t throw rose petals at his feet on the way out the door.

Landon wasn’t traded, he left in free agency, and his gripe has been a perceived lack of respect when the Giants didn’t even try to bring him back.

Who else?

So, I'm guessing for most of us - we didn't really need to actively seek this out. I don't follow him on Twitter, I don't follow him on Instagram and I don't look up anything he does... but I still saw this anyway.

And all the people who point this out are the same ones opening these threads. So, we can play the whole "you care! No YOU care!" game all day long... but if he's going to speak directly about NYG or the trade, I think most people would be at least mildly curious to know what was said.

Beckham isn't claiming he was lied to. His issue, apparently from his quote, is that he was entitled to dictate his next location in trade and that did not happen.

Strange take. We are talking about Beckham and Collins here. Maybe we should ask DRC for his take?

Players that never won anything here, rarely showed leadership... are bitter that they were shown the door by a new GM and Coach. And yet the Giants are to blame for this? McAdoo, Reese, Ross are gone....

Ya THINK??!!

FWIW, Cleveland is a fantastic football town, loyal to a fault - fan culture there worships Browns as much as any rabid College town supporting it's school.

LeBron already showed by example how to be a star in that town.

Odell ignores that and yes, the fans there are definitely hearing those words the same way we are.

I give him 3 years tops before his whiny, always-injured ass is traded again - maybe sooner depending how long it takes him to piss off the entire organization. He has become the hot-potato prima-donna of the era, he is Randy Moss, he is Terrell Owens.

I think it's pretty clear Beckham lacks the self awareness to understand he's part of, and often times all of, the problem.

Two head coaches and two GMs had a crack at getting through to him, low likely anyone does until he's an older, wiser individual.

Nobody's making you click these links.

I actually didn't need to click anything - I got a B/R alert on my phone because this fell under "Giants news" for them - which is what I subscribe to as far as football goes along with other general breaking news. I don't subscribe to Browns news or Beckham.

There's a degree of distance between 1) Beckham said something dopey again I'm curious and 2) he's a raging prick, asshole, and people who defend him are slurping him.

Maybe he's a little too bothersome for some and should be ignored?
especially when the person who calls Beckham a prick and an asshole is such an upstanding gentleman who always treats other posters with respect and civility

Antonio Brown has a pretty good claim to that “throne”

But generally I agree...I really think DG and the Giants decided to sell high on OBJ before he went full AB and forced his way out

He is probably a good teammate. Works hard, generous with his time. Personable. I trust that most of his teammates love him. He got a Giant contract with guaranteed money and then promptly publicly shit on his QB and indicated he would rather play elsewhere. I am sure this was in direct conflict with what they expected of him after they made him the face of the franchise with the aforementioned contract. I don't like him at all anymore. He could have just STFU and moved on with class. He is a no class, disloyal and bitter piece of garbage. I hope he rots in Cleveland.

One guy who didn't stifle him was TC, in the awful Norman WWE event. Had TC actually been the adult in the room, the disciplinarian he claimed to be, he would have benched him then and there and maybe for the next game also. Maybe that would have helped OBJ gain some perspective, re-think his 'I am bigger than the team' mentality. Naahh, likely not. But it would have brought things to a head more quickly.

That failure on his (Tom's) part, and his failure to own up to it afterwards, was the beginning of the end for him.

Agree with this. Coughlin gets WAY too much shit for this, and it was a hot take at the time.

Two things I remember about that time period. One was Beckham open to being "coached/coachable". I remember interviews with him where he said "I told Coach to stay on me, stay on me coach, I need it..."

And then, in the post game of that debacle, Tom Coughlin said specifically "He needs to learn. He needs to be out there and learn". I've always assumed he meant learn to properly channel that anger, learn how it affects the team negatively and what happens when you take the bait as Beckham did from Norman. And let's not forget, Josh Norman started all that shit. This was a lesson in what not do do and I believe Coughlin was thinking longer term than one game.

But that's just my take. I know some think that symbolizes and old senile man that couldn't reach the young athlete.
The spotlight in Cleveland is on Stipe Miocic.

But your point about his performance up to the point where he lost his head--and the serial apologizers and defenders above who cry about Norman's role--is beside the point. When TC failed to reign him in, this was a big deal in terms of the cohesion of a football team, where teamwork and everyone pulling in the same direction are paramount. It signaled that the HC had variable standards as to who had to play by team rules and what's for the benefit of the team and who did not. That's a significant tell in this game of football. What happened there was unprecedented. So much so that the NFL made a rule about it the following year.

That was not a player being held to a different standard over the course of a season. This was about one game/instance, and one so extraordinary that they changed the rules because of it.

is how good of a performance odell put in. He was the reason we had a chance to win it

ron, as hot a debate topic as Odell is here, no one I can think of, certainly not me, doubts his talent. I could hardly believe the team's good fortune as it became apparent just how good he was.

And that is how it played out, as it turned out.

I'f my memory serves, most of his big plays happened after the earhole incident. My memory may be off, looking at the box score for that game he didn't have the monster game I thought he did.

He caught the game tying TD, over Norman one on one, with a minute left in the game.
He will not even realize that he insulted Cleveland

Not Mara, not Tisch, not Reese, not Coughlin, not McAdoo and quite frankly neither did Shurmur or Gettleman (at least in year one).

The truth is, Beckham is no good and we do know now that it likely wouldn't have mattered how they handled him.

He is an asshole now just as he was an asshole in 2016 when he was performing at a high level.

Some of us have been saying it the whole time.

Thanks for the candor, and I would have taken you at your word, or recall. What stood out for me about that game was the melt-down, the not taking him off the field, TC's utter lack of candor in the post-game presser (he walked it back slightly on Monday AM). It was stunning to me, but it didn't turn me against Odell. I was perplexed, confused, I guess, because it wouldn't become clear whether this was going to become a constant.

On the other hand, and FMiC roasts this point of view, I was pissed off when the boat story before the Packers game came out, and we know how that played out.

What a waste, for team and player to have it go this way.

I think if they were able to put together a winning team, these issues would not have surfaced. Or at least be limited to fringe issues like TD celebrations and hotel room videos.

I think you can win with a guy like OBJ if you have the rest of the pieces in place, but he is not a guy you want during a rebuild.

Their real failure was in building the rest of the roster, not in mis-handling OBJ.

Gettlemen said on the day he was hired "I don't want players who want to win, I want players who hate to lose"

He probably followed it up during the 2018 season with a "NOT LIKE THAT!"

I loved Odell when he was here, but to call him a generational talent is offbase. Deandre Hopkins is a better player than him most definetly, and he may only be the 5th best WR in the league. That isn't generational.

So the thing is, yeah, he was the type of WR that you don't get very often.

However - I don't know how much longer Beckham would've stayed, well, Beckham. I think he does well this year when he's on the field because Cleveland is stacked, but the arrow might be trending downhill.

And who knows where his head is.

The trade was the correct move.

The Texans offense has been atrocious with no quarterback up until recently. DeAndre Hopkins did not drop a pass in 2018. Beckham can barely go a game without a drop.

I wish he was traded to Buffalo. He'd live out the rest of his prime with Josh Allen throwing 80 passes/yr his way with about 40 of them uncatchable before he inevitably ends up in Oakland which will probably be embroiled in a qb battle between some rookie qb and an ancient Fitzpatrick

2nd, I never had ANY such problems on the BBI fantasy baseball league. I didn't behave in any such manner, I let you hang yourself and look like a fool, which you did.

1st, don't play victim on this board like Palestine does to Israel. Just look at this thread title.

2nd, I never had ANY such problems on the BBI fantasy baseball league. I got the emails from weatherman commending me for ignoring you and your unprovoked verbal attacks which did lead you to you being banned. I didn't behave in any such manner, I let you hang yourself and look like a fool, which you did.

3rd, I said perhaps I would give away one of the Pens back-back cup victories if it meant the Caps not winning...and really because I like two teams...thats what you use against me. SMH.

1. Bullshit. I am not here spouting lies like you did. I told you why I got banned. I told you why I left the BBI league and I didn’t drive Weathrrman from this board like you proclaimed. You’re a flat out liar.

2. You cried and post negative attacks on the BBI yahoo page that cursed everyone up and down the board when they poked fun at you. It was actually weatherman who told everyone to stop picking in YOU cause how sensitive you were and your language would get the board in trouble. When the yahoo league became free due to weatherman’s decision, bigblueshock deopped our. And everyone stopped following their team cause there was no reason too. Try getting facts right. And when weatherman told everyone to stop making fun of you and let you act like petulant child - that’s when I left the league. The league in which I won two years prior. Kicked your ass every time, remember sparky?

3 and Bullshit again- you said you rather never see any of your sports teams win if it meant the Capitals never won.

4. I decided to leave the league by dropping my team. The league got beyond stupid especially with your histrionics.

Hey there. I'm doing fine; just had my fill of posting here. Wasn't getting much out of it except aggravation at the bullshit people spout here. And the switch of opinions isn't surprising. If he were still a Giant all the people knocking him would still be defending him. Beckham didn't just become an asshole in March. But being rational isn't the same as being a fan.
