to the city and people of Cleveland. It is clear he sees being traded there as a punishment and can't get past that. If I were a fan of the Browns I think I would be more concerned that he sees our city, town and team as a death sentence.
This is actually a great point.
I don't think he is referencing the city, but the complete ineptitude of the Browns.
RE: The house organ grinders are back playing that house song Â
Is anyone at all curious as to why several of the guys traded are claiming they were screwed or lied to and continue to be vexed about it? Isn't that a little unusual? Or are you all just listening to the house siren song that these people were all malcontents who needed to be dumped so the unicorns and rainbows would come out.
What several guys are you referring to? Who has claimed they were screwed with or lied to?
OBJ is the only guy we traded who’s talking (not a peep from Vernon), and even he’s never said he was screwed with or lied to, his gripe is the Giants didn’t throw rose petals at his feet on the way out the door.
Landon wasn’t traded, he left in free agency, and his gripe has been a perceived lack of respect when the Giants didn’t even try to bring him back.
2 immediate starters and 1 eventual (hopefully) starter for that me-first asshole who's most likely going to miss at least a quarter of the season? Yes please. Thank you very much.
Needs therapy badly. This is an unhealthy obsession and an inability to play the cards you're dealt. He has the QB he wanted and he's playing with his best friend, that sounds like maybe DG did him a favor by sending him there. His take on this is 100% backwards.
I actually didn't need to click anything - I got a B/R alert on my phone because this fell under "Giants news" for them - which is what I subscribe to as far as football goes along with other general breaking news. I don't subscribe to Browns news or Beckham.
So, I'm guessing for most of us - we didn't really need to actively seek this out. I don't follow him on Twitter, I don't follow him on Instagram and I don't look up anything he does... but I still saw this anyway.
And all the people who point this out are the same ones opening these threads. So, we can play the whole "you care! No YOU care!" game all day long... but if he's going to speak directly about NYG or the trade, I think most people would be at least mildly curious to know what was said.

Beckham isn't claiming he was lied to. His issue, apparently from his quote, is that he was entitled to dictate his next location in trade and that did not happen.

They will eventually run with this story in Cleveland. Wait until he has to start answering those questions. Get your popcorn ready is so overused but it is so appropriate. He will not be worth his contract, this will all end in a shit storm. "Can you explain what you meant when you talked about the stigma of being a Cleveland Brown and can you describe what you were thinking when you said death sentence" lol
Love it more every second now. He just doesn't get it. World class talent, $5 cent head.
I hated that it deteriorated to the point that a trade was necessary, but I definitely didn't hate the trade itself. In fact, I was kinda hoping they'd have done it a year prior, even as early as the point where we were seeking a new coach.
I used to defend this guy and believed he could/would grow up. Â

Strange take. We are talking about Beckham and Collins here. Maybe we should ask DRC for his take?
Players that never won anything here, rarely showed leadership... are bitter that they were shown the door by a new GM and Coach. And yet the Giants are to blame for this? McAdoo, Reese, Ross are gone....

There's a degree of distance between 1) Beckham said something dopey again I'm curious and 2) he's a raging prick, asshole, and people who defend him are slurping him.
Maybe he's a little too bothersome for some and should be ignored?
Cleveland is an up and coming team that finally got a qb who can play (but who's almost as stupid as Beckham).
Yeah, that's true... if the Giants were truly looking for a franchise to send him to "die" on, the Browns as currently constructed would have been an odd choice. And I have to think Browns fans bristle a bit at that comment (though maybe they're resigned to the fact that there's been merit to it).
of a guy but man, we have to be grateful every day that there are players like Saquon Barkley still out there who keep it humble and positive and play the game. I'm glad I don't have kids who are watching some of these guys.
Beckham wanted to stay in NY and if not possible, would be happy to play in FL or CA, but nowhere else, and Cleveland is the worst selection in the world of nowhere else.

This is what is mind-boggling. He said he wanted a "real" quarterback and wanted to play with his best friend. He got everything he wanted (including the contract) except it's not in LA.
Holy shit.
He is just jealous that AB has been out-divaing him lately Â

FWIW, Cleveland is a fantastic football town, loyal to a fault - fan culture there worships Browns as much as any rabid College town supporting it's school.
LeBron already showed by example how to be a star in that town.
Odell ignores that and yes, the fans there are definitely hearing those words the same way we are.
I give him 3 years tops before his whiny, always-injured ass is traded again - maybe sooner depending how long it takes him to piss off the entire organization. He has become the hot-potato prima-donna of the era, he is Randy Moss, he is Terrell Owens.

I think it's pretty clear Beckham lacks the self awareness to understand he's part of, and often times all of, the problem.
Two head coaches and two GMs had a crack at getting through to him, low likely anyone does until he's an older, wiser individual.

especially when the person who calls Beckham a prick and an asshole is such an upstanding gentleman who always treats other posters with respect and civility
And you can't find a teammate who'd say a bad thing about him!
Well that’s probably because they aren’t assholes like him. I’m sure what one says and what one thinks can be totally different. And we are talking only a few players who have really stood up for him.

Get fucking lost scumbag. After you laughing at my cancer scare earlier this summer and then mocking a serious concussion I got when I was younger - you are the biggest POS on this site. Antonio Brown has a pretty good claim to that “throne”
But generally I agree...I really think DG and the Giants decided to sell high on OBJ before he went full AB and forced his way out
get the anger and vitriol directed at guys like Beckham. he's not some great intellectual, thinker or someone who has anything interesting to say. Like most elite athletes he is basically an uninteresting ignoramus. I would not be interested to spend more than ten minutes with such people. They mostly have nothing interesting to say outside of their perception of sports. And I have met many pro athletes, related to my work and sometimes just out and about. They are interesting because of their athletic exploits, not because of anything they have in their minds.

I don't get that you don't get the anger.
It's like having a former employee, friend, guest, etc. talking trash about you, especially after you gave them what they supposed wanted.
Idk, if I was a Browns fan, I’d be kinda insulted by that comment lol. Players go to the Browns to die? Thanks a lot Odell. Baker Mayfield being the over sensitive diva that he is, should be a little annoyed too.

Look, they're the worst franchise in football since the original franchise moved to Baltimore - there's truth to what Beckham said.
But it's entertaining to watch him put his foot in his mouth.

No, I'm referencing all the people who used to say that Beckham couldn't possibly be a negative influence because if he were, his teammates wouldn't be complimenting him all the time.
It was constantly offered as proof that his detractors were all off base.
He is just mad lefraud James left Cleveland to L.A. before he got his Drama ass traded to the Browns.Poor Baby, with all that money you got from the Giants no wonder why your Hip Hurts.I thought T.O., Chris Carter, Randy Moss,Chad Johnson were divas, but OBJ AND ANTONIO BROWN Take it to a hole new Level.
He is probably a good teammate. Works hard, generous with his time. Personable. I trust that most of his teammates love him. He got a Giant contract with guaranteed money and then promptly publicly shit on his QB and indicated he would rather play elsewhere. I am sure this was in direct conflict with what they expected of him after they made him the face of the franchise with the aforementioned contract. I don't like him at all anymore. He could have just STFU and moved on with class. He is a no class, disloyal and bitter piece of garbage. I hope he rots in Cleveland.

Sheesh, HJ, are you still feeling butthurt about Giants' treatment of TC? And, yes, no question, I agree that it should have been Reese first, or both together.
But, back to the premise of the OP:
Quote:
Beckham also said he felt stifled in New York, between the intense media environment and the Giants organization.
One guy who didn't stifle him was TC, in the awful Norman WWE event. Had TC actually been the adult in the room, the disciplinarian he claimed to be, he would have benched him then and there and maybe for the next game also. Maybe that would have helped OBJ gain some perspective, re-think his 'I am bigger than the team' mentality. Naahh, likely not. But it would have brought things to a head more quickly.
That failure on his (Tom's) part, and his failure to own up to it afterwards, was the beginning of the end for him.
