After what happened to him at Notre Dame in the meaningless Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State, this is a great redemption story. I hope more prospects keep skipping these bowl games...
Anyway, Smith was the best player in the 2016 NFL draft. Very smart move by Jerry to gamble on him with a long term view...
That's $81.5 million on six players in 2020 not including Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper.
If you think Precott will eventually get the $35 million per year being discussed, that number jumps to $116.5 million for 7 players. That is super top heavy.
Dallas has a lot of nice young talent, but the problem they are going to run into is paying everyone. It looks like that is about to happen.
They are paying guys early, which looks like a good deal at the time, but it could hurt their cap moving forward.

Yes, I liked Smith & wish him well. After that injury, I was really worried his career would never be the same. It just sucks he plays for those jackasses.
I hated that Dallas took him but I'm happy he was able to recover from his injury.
Now that he has signed I hope Jax let's Myles Jack and/or Yannick Ngakoue hit free agency because both would be great long term additions to the Giants.

Absolutely. Loved him at ND. I think he should be the poster guy for sitting out meaningless bowl games...
Stephen Jones with a big assist from Will McClay run the draft for the past 4 or 5 years. If you notice the Cowboys have not been big players in free agency since they took over from Jerry Jones. Those 2 believe in building through the draft not expensive free agents that was Jerry’s plan.
Hell, if Jerry Jones was still in charge Johnny Manziel would be their QB.
On another note, I believe they will retain all their top talented players including Byron Jones. Their biggest casualty maybe Collins.
Good for Jaylon Smith who is a terrific LB who came back from horrible knee injury to be a pro bowl player. He is also a very good guy.
as he really hasn't shown what he needs to secure the big second contract. At the same time, I wouldn't pay $30M+ to Prescott either. Zeke is the motor for them.
Jerry was able to stack his team with stud LBs and talent in general, and just look at us.
Not paying a franchise qb helps a lot. Clock is ticking on that one. Same in Philadelphia as wentz contract kicks in tough choices will have to be made. The giants on the other hand are moving the opposite direction

I'd be very happy if they let Zeke walk.
Should be using both Dak's and Zeke's money...

Like AB, he'll be traded, not let go and not given away. But I'd pay Zeke before I'd pay Dak.
I don't think this will free up any cap space. His cap hit this year is only 2 million.

AB was the very definition of "given away", and even then, it is looking like an excellent value right now

Won't be surprised if it's a team friendly deal that gets some well earned money in his pocket.
He's one guy who knows how your next game isn't guaranteed. I suspect that plays into it.
Exactly.. Shady Organization. I wonder how they have all the money to sign all those high profile players?

They haven't. Zeke, Amari Cooper, and Dak Prescott need new contracts and they still don't have extensions.
Demarcus Lawrence: $22m.
Zack Martin: $15m
Tyron Smith: $13.5m
Travis Frederick: $12m
Jaylon Smith $10m
Tyrone Crawford $9m

This. If they are smart they make Zeke happy before Prescott and Cooper. Doubt it though
Team friendly? Seems about market value $13 mill for a LB.

And yet, it is getting close to the time to pay the piper.
1994 is a long ways away right now.
Same here. Horrific. Brought me back to the Fiesta Bowl, strangely enough, when Willis McGahee got his knee crushed in the game against Ohio State...

He doesn't have a cap hit close to 13M until 5 years from now.
In the next 3 years he has cap hits of 2.5, 7.7, 9.8 and they can get out with 6.8 in dead money after that. That's a good deal any way you cut it.
