NFT: Matrix 4 Greenlit With Keanu Reeves and Lana Wachowski

Pego61 : 8/20/2019 4:31 pm
I'm not some crazy Matrix fan, but I think this is very cool news. A revolutionary trilogy of movies, even if the latter two never reached the heights of the first.

Enough time has passed where I'm excited to see more from this world, 20 years after the first movie. Sure to be HUGE at the box office.

Quote:
Lana Wachowski is set to write and direct a fourth film set in the world of “The Matrix,” with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and globally distribute the film. Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich made the announcement on Tuesday.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

In addition to Wachowski, the script was also written by Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski is also producing with Grant Hill. Sources say the film is eyed to begin production at the top of 2020.

was a blatant theft of William Gibson's work dressed up with some revolutionary CGI. The sequels are pure garbage...

Yeah, I saw the original script floating around in the 90's. Nice work. When the Wachowski brothers wrote the sequels and this one expect garbage.

BTW, when a script starts floating around the industry for the 1st time expect getting copied/ripped off. The surprise is when it isn't.

I was really referring mainly to his early short fiction and Sprawl novels...
I confused Wachowski with Hugo Weaving

Which was turned into a script that made the rounds. Many people saw it. There was a suit by someone claiming authorship that went to court.

Even Gibson himself didn't feel like Matrix was a blatant ripoff.

At any rate, I hope it's great but suspect it won't be.
The first one was revolutionary for its time, I felt
Anakim : 8/20/2019 6:12 pm : link
Seemed like one of those surreal films. Honestly, if they left it alone, it would've been fine, but Hollywood naturally demanded sequels.

And frankly, what's the point off Keanu and Carrie-Ann being in the fourth movie? They both died in the third.
The Matrix changed the landscape of movies for the worse imo
robbieballs2003 : 8/20/2019 6:30 pm : link
The movie was excellent but after its release how many movies tried to GCI-up their film? It was all about CGI and the storytelling went to shit.
The original is a flatout homerun...
Torrag : 8/20/2019 6:47 pm : link
...and it's now been long enough since the saga ended that if they have the right script a new chapter could be very good.

I'm a big Keanu fan and he usually picks films that have good material to work with so I'm optimistic here.
I wouldn’t say the sequels didn’t reach the heights of the original
Ben in Tampa : 8/20/2019 6:48 pm : link
I’d say the sequels were total dogshit.

I don't think The Matrix created that trend. It may have been the tip of the spear but the trend was coming anyway. Depending on what you count, the first all-CG sequence in a film was the Genesis demonstration video in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. There was the fight with the stained glass window in Young Sherlock Holmes. Filmmakers were learning fast what CG could do and how it could break through all kinds of limits of analog special effects. It was just a matter of the cost coming down. Moore's law.
I’m with the crowd here...the Matrix was brilliant
mfsd : 8/20/2019 9:29 pm : link
the sequels atrocious.

Matrix 4: A cute girl and her grandmother are secretly a dream land disguise for evil machines bent on the destruction of mankind, but have another change of heart and make more sunshine and rainbows for Neo.

I should probably read the article before commenting, but good god... The sequels were unnecessary and while often bad, they had some moments in them. Anyhow, despite a bunch of nonsensical crap throughout them the main story of ending the cycle I thought was wrapped up well. This is about as unnecessary of a movie as it gets

I love the original Matrix movie.

I agree that 3 was bad. I feel like the Neo and Trinity stuff is super cheesy even in the first movie.

However, I did like many aspects of the 2nd movie, which is an opinion that seems to be counter to the general consensus. I agree that the cgi does not hold up at all and the writing for the 3rd act was choppy, but I really enjoyed the rest of the 2nd movie especially when combined with the stories from The Animatrix and the Enter the Matrix video game. It is my opinion that the 2nd movie actually lays the groundwork for a much better 3rd movie than what we got.

When I first heard the Architect explain to Neo what was happening I was convinced that the control that he was describing was a matrix within a matrix. I feel like the third movie could have been a better version of Inception but before Inception was even created. Alas, it did not happen.

I'm curious about this fourth movie, but I think this is a perfect situation in which I will plan for the worst but hope for the best.
The only trilogy that really should never have happened.
Knineteen : 8/21/2019 12:40 am : link
The Matrix was a phenomenal movie. Both sequels never really made much sense. I honestly can't even remember what happened in the third film.
Oh man. Enter the Matrix game...
Anakim : 8/21/2019 7:36 am : link
Such an awesome game, but there was a glitch in one of the levels and I couldn't finish the game

Agreed, the first was really enjoyable, the 2nd and 3rd were just terrible IMO.

It would be great if they could forget those 2 were ever made and make a proper sequel.
Matrix was awesome...the sequels were garbage...
RC in MD : 8/21/2019 1:31 pm : link
as others have already stated.

Only way to make this final sequel even interesting is to make Neo's Matrix alter ego be John Wick. Fuck it otherwise.
Ehhh ....

the first was great, but the two that followed sucked.
The second film
BigBlueDownTheShore : 8/21/2019 4:50 pm : link
Was good, but they really messed up the 3rd film which I feel like both movies get lumped in together, so everyone says it sucks. It would have been better if they didn’t leave the film on a cliff hanger in the second film.
Most excited person about this?

Sex change. The wachowski brothers are now the wachowski sisters.
A couple questions
bhill410 : 8/21/2019 7:41 pm : link
1) who wrote the original? I had always assumed it was those brothers but I guess not?

2) did both have a sex change or just the one? And is only one involved in this or both?

3) I honestly cant even remember if I watched the third - now died?

The Wachowski brothers wrote the original, borrowing very, very heavily from the works of William Gibson and Philip K. Dick.

They both had sex changes. Larry is now Lana and Andy is now Lily.
I didn't like the sequels at the time
LakeGeorgeGiant : 8/21/2019 10:00 pm : link
but I watched the entire series again recently with less expectation. They weren't that bad.

I'm also skeptical of "dogshit" being thrown around by the same crowd that seems to view the MCU as the pinnacle of cinema.
