I’m amazed with so many hitters out all year how well our offense is still doing (Cespedes, McNeil, Smith, Nimmo, Lowrie, Cano). Mets are second in wRC+ only to the Dodgers in the NL. That’s pretty incredible. Getting Davis back was a huge boost. Nimmo, McNeil, and Lowrie seem to be returning shortly. Our pitching is third in the league in ERA, FIP, and WAR. A top 3 pitching staff and top 3 offense can do massive damage in a postseason. Let’s keep winning. LFGM!

Jeff McNeil (strained left hamstring) indicated he is uninhibited in his on-field activity.
Yesterday, McNeil ran the bases. Today, he fielded grounders at second and took BP with the rest of the team.
No decision yet on a rehab assignment, but McNeil said, “I feel good.”
Every game is a playoff game at this point, but it's not quite do or die yet.

For sure. He needs to be healthy. I just would rather him taking 4 atbats in the major than 4 atbats in the minors.
Not a huge sample but .900 OPS in the second half.
2.) Rosario SS
3.) McNeil 3B
4.) Alonso 1B
5.) Conforto RF
6.) Davis LF
7.) Cano 2B
8.) Ramos C
Cano "start running" lol. that will be a first.

On top of taking batting practice already, he is expected to start running on Thursday. He is now expected back much sooner than his original timeframe.

Good one. ;)
I think he's going to be a big game player in the bright lights. Bat him low in the order (around 7th) and I bet if we get in the postseason he has some big hits for us.
Plus, its only strengthening our bench. Lowrie, Frazier, Panik, Lagares, R. Davis, and probably Dom too is going to start looking really good.

At this point I am happy with Lagares startingi in center, he’s hitting and a better fielder, but Nimmo would provide some depth.

Nimmo was a 4.5 WAR player last year and one of the best players in the NL. He needs to start if he's healthy. I do think they go to their victory formation with any lead though from about the 6th on. They can rotate Davis, Nimmo, and Conforto with who comes out and it still will give Lagares plenty of play.
Nimmo had a .851 OPS at the time he injured his neck. He should have been IL'd right away rather than trying to play through it.
Since the break Mets are number 1 in pitching and number 4 in run production—despite a plethora of injuries and despite Diaz and Familia grossly underperforming.
Assuming JD and Rosario are for real, and assuming Nimmo and Lowrie at a minimum come back, I don’t see any team that has more talent than the Mets

Yes, but not if Diaz and Familia grossly underperform down the stretch.
Can't rely on Justin Wilson and Lugo only (plus spare parts) down the stretch.
My biggest concerns right now are the BP usage and the lineup decisions in terms of how these healthy vets get phased in. Rosario, Alonso, JDD, Mcneil, and Conforto are the biggest reasons for the turnaround. They took it to another level the second they became the daily top 4-5 of the lineup. The defensive downgrade of re-inserting Cano at 2B is scary enough, if he becomes an anchor in the middle of the lineup again that could be a disaster. Have to reward performance and not play favorites. Even Lagares, he has played so well in CF I wouldn't be so quick to pull him out right now. Frazier + Panik too.

Definitely feel something happening for this team, question is...what do you do with Diaz?
vs. LHB: .067/.152/.100 against with a 10/3 K/BB ratio
vs. RHB: .383/.464/.533 against with a 11/6 (+3 HBP) K/BB ratio
Yet Mickey still uses him as a low leverage one inning pitcher. He is an outstanding LOOGY but he's still not being used that way.

Are you getting that sense this team can do something special?

What do we have to do with Diaz? He has three more years of control and will be 25 next year. Let him work on his slider in the offseason and try it again next year. In the postseason we will have Wheeler, Matz, Diaz, Familia, Wilson, Brach, and Lugo all as good options to choose from...

Talking about right now! He can’t close right now.
Stroman has been giving up some solid contact.
Stroman also hasn't had the easiest go of it schedule wise for us. He's faced the Nats, Braves, and Indians so far over 4 games.
maybe his longest outing of the year (duration)
#LGFM!!!
Ervin Santana would be my choice
I didn't like giving Vargas away for nothing, but Lockett looked good in his last spot start. I think Oswalt pitched 7 scoreless in Syracuse in his last start. Plus we still have Ervin Santana. Not going to get much better than that for AAAA depth.
But with an off day, if he even has to miss a start they don't actually have to even use a 5th starter.
However, Corey Oswalt has been REALLY good since mid-July.
I just don't trust him.
