here, but how does post-season roster work.

IOW if you are on the DL on 9/1 but not active are you still eligible for the post-season?

Hard not to have them tonight, but I agree with the decision. Good bullpen management means not running guys into the ground.

Familia and Diaz will have to get us home. Hopefully Thor gives us 7 strong and the offense can put some runs up.

Whohoo. Nimmo, McNeil, and Lowrie all in rehab games. Exciting.
McNeil

and Nimmo in SYR and in the field - means to me they're closer to a return. Maybe this weekend?

Lworie still just DH-ing I believe.

Lowrie is going to need all of the allotted Minor League games left IMO, and maybe more.
The

I think a realistic target for him would be September if no setbacks. He'd have to play in the last 5-7 or so of Syracuse games.

Also, Syracuse has won 8 in a row and is only a game out of the playoffs, so there's a possibility of some extra AAA games via that avenue as well.
DMM - they said if all goes well tonight
debo_GIANTS : 8/22/2019 5:06 pm : link
He could be playing the field/ moving up to Syracuse this weekend.

I'm sure they will do what they can but he's had 4 ab's (and 0 innings in the field) since.. May. That's going to be tough to get going so quickly.
Maybe ZG is on to something

Thor just needs to shut em out and hit one out like he did in May.

Problem solved!

Also acceptable to go off and win by 10.
What works in Lowrie’s favor
ZGiants98 : 8/22/2019 5:21 pm : link
Is that he likely isn’t going to start when he joins the team. Mets probably stick with Frazier at 3B VS Frazier so Lowrie is likely a super sub off the bench and won’t be pushed all that much.
Pj I can look for a graph or article
ZGiants98 : 8/22/2019 5:22 pm : link
But starters will generally gain a tick or two over the summer months sort of on a bell curve.
I’m guessing Lowrie’s in the field tonight or tomorrow
ZGiants98 : 8/22/2019 5:24 pm : link
Nimmo DH’d his first game too.

Nimmo NOT in the lineup.... hopefully not a set back. If it's a setback gotta assume that's it for him this year. Hopefully just being cautious.

He was also pulled in the 5th inning last night from the game.
Weird, random question...
PhiPsi125 : 8/22/2019 6:41 pm : link
When a player is called up from the minors, where do they sleep? Does the team provide them with a hotel? Is it on the players dime? Shack up with a teammate?

Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat for the Syracuse Mets tonight. He crossed home plate on an RBI single by Danny Espinosa moments later.

McNeil is remaining in the game and playing right field.

A lot of younger Mets - deGrom, Thor etc were in a building on my block on the UES that sterling owns. Pretty sure they stash them there until they figure it out.
That is they
jpkmets : 8/22/2019 8:13 pm : link
We’re in that building for rookie season. Lot of Mets on that block cuddyer was there in 2015. Always saw him golfing with Niese on off days. Kinda cool bonus about my block.
The Talented Mr RISPY
ChaChing : 8/22/2019 8:13 pm : link
ridic how good Ramos career RISP numbers are. Or even how good they were while he was otherwise slumping during the season (or at least hitting much less than he was atm). There were times he was a guaranteed DP, but still got runs over those stretches

There you go. Tough AB by the pitcher working that count
Throwing a no hitter requires just as much luck as talent...probably
PhiPsi125 : 8/22/2019 8:33 pm : link
a lot more luck. All this pitching we’ve had over the years (with this crew) and we can barely sniff a no hitter. I doubt I’ll ever see one again for the Mets lol.
Tough break for Thor on the perfect game - here's a crazy stat re: D
Eric on Li : 8/22/2019 8:34 pm : link
This was from an article Carig wrote on the Athletic today. Pretty amazing turnaround.

Quote:
"Then, there are the things that are harder to see. For instance, in the first half of the season, the Mets defense converted just 69.6 percent of grounders into outs. That ranked last in the major leagues, according to Sports Info Solutions. In the second half, that number has jumped to 77 percent, the best in baseball. It has coincided with the Mets’ climb back into contention."

Carig: No matter what happens, the Mets have already salvaged a lost season - ( New Window )

Pretty sure Mickey said pregame that Diaz will close.

Worried that we are gonna get Thor’s night will get cut short by two innings.
Yep. Here we go

nice work by the

well this screws us pretty good unless the game doesn't resume
Eric on Li : 8/22/2019 8:54 pm : link
45 minutes is too long to risk Thor.

Cleveland has Santana, Puig, Ramirez due up in the 7th. You could either throw Brach there to try to get the ball to Familia/Diaz or you could throw Familia since it's the heart of the order and try Brach against the bottom of the order in the 8th. Not sure what the weather report is, but if there's more bad weather possible I'd probably just go with Familia first. Maybe even try to get 2 out of him if he's on his game.

Double tonight.
Watching this interview with McNeil on SNY is infuriating with how
PhiPsi125 : 8/22/2019 9:24 pm : link
the Mets would handle players in the minors. It was clear under Sandy that the Mets wanted players that would work the count and either hit a homerun or get a walk. How many years did we watch these Mets hitters not be aggressive at the plate, take strikes right down the heart of the plate, constantly behind in the count and piling up the Ks? Of course, followed by horrible results.

I understand working counts but taking players away from their strengths is obviously counterproductive. McNeil is an aggressive hitter, and clearly has always been really good with that approach. Him telling a story about him hitting the cover off the ball for a stretch of games and then being forced to not swing until he takes a strike first, you could tell really frustrated him. Then he says “I guess a hit is as good as a walk” had me shaking my head. Ugh, since that quote is ass-backwards but it’s clearly what the Mets braintrust was preaching.

Then again, striking out isn’t even a negative stat anymore, lol. Yay for dumbass analytics!
