Not expected to play tonight:
RB Saquon Barkley (coach decision)
WR Golden Tate (concussion)
CB Sam Beal (hamstring)
CB DeAndre Baker (knee)
CB Antonio Hamilton (groin)
LB Alec Ogletree (calf)
OT Chad Wheeler (back)
OT George Asafo-Adjei (concussion)
WR Sterling Shepard (thumb)
Maybe Im nuts, but this offense genuinely looks much improved. The line is like night and day. Eli looks relaxed and is picking teams apart with the better play upfront.
am listening to the Bengals announcers. I think one is Anthony Munoz. The sideline reporter is Solomon Wilcox. I'm not sure who is doing the play by play. They are very fair.
Story of Eli's career.... if you give him time he can make plays... sad we wasted so many years with some of the worst OL I have seen on this team. Who knows how many more wins Eli may of had including playoff and possible SB runs.
think we took out our first string DL. There was no pressure, but give credit to the Bengals. Some nice play calls, and even better throws by Dalton. The TD pass was gorgeous.
defense not getting any rush
OL getting abused after first drive
Secondary leaving guys wide open
Dixon another short punt
WRs with a very very slow start.
Jones to Slayton! I could get used to that. Great throw! Nice drive. Jones took a lick as well. That was an awesome drive. And nice play by Slayton too.
at Duke, now showing at the NFL level (tho early and preseason, no doubt). Kid can take hits, get back up & stay focused on the next play, and make throws while getting pummeled
We will be holding our breath quite a bit then this year. Hope McIntosh is ahead of him, hell the 7th rounder they drafted Slayton has looked more impressive IMO.

He's part of the pass rush package. He had a sack last week. The call against him was BS.
I dont think theres any coincidence any longer. I think hes shown he can play in this league. Now can he do it when the real bullets fly?! Probably wont see it this year.

More than that, he got CRUSHED on that sack. A little similar to that big sack Eli took as a rookie against the Eagles. But he got back up and made a major throw with heat coming at him again.
They should let Golden return...he has experience doing that.
Hopefully they will in the 2nd half. The Giants are going to have a tough call with these WRs. How many can they keep? And how many would they put on the PS?

That sack also reminded me about the one Eli took as a rookie against the Eagles. But then he got back up to make more great throws.

Very impressive and poised for a young QB. Good point about the Eli hit. It was eerily similar!
On the second big play when he connected down the left sideline to Slayton, I feel like it was a great play by Slayton but an underthrown ball by Jones, unless he was *trying* to do some kind of a back-shoulder/intentional underthrow. Other than that, I think DJ had a good showing.
On another note, even though Eli has only had three drives this preseason, he has looked fairly sharp and confident, especially tonight.
Well now that jones is done for the night here are his stats for the
I'll tell ya if eli and /or the team as a whole dont get off to a good start the whispers to start jones are going to get louder and louder every week . May play himself off the team. Next week's game should be interesting between Tanney and Lauletta. He didn't play well last week. Lauletta had better ball placement / touch.
This is t he 3rd preseason game of the year, and typically the game where the starters play at least the entire first half and into the 3rd quarter. But that didn't come close to happening tonight, and Jones played the majority of the first half.

Has a great arm but just doesn't have the accuracy to play in the NFL. IMO, giving him playing time is costing the team by not giving more experience to either Jones or Lauletta.

Agreed, Can't believe they have not made up their mind between Tanney and Lauletta by now and stringing this out for 4 preseason games. Not enough snaps for either Eli and Jones.
I can understand if there was really still a chance for Tanney, but I don't see it. I guess once you let the 4th QB go, you cannot turn back and you are committed for next season's backup.

Anderson was a stud. Injuries hurt his draft stock. He has a ton of talent.
and pick up Allen who the Pats cut recently. Might be better competition for Dixon. At this point Im thinking Dixon is the guy.
Ryan Allen was worse than Dixon last year. Worst average and net average. Townsend's first two punts were good. 50 and 51 yards with a 44 yard net. The last punt was bad.

Agreed. Which makes it even more Slayton's play than DJ's placement. With that being said, DJ looks so, so promising.

Disagree here. Slayton made a nice play, but he did not beat the CB. Seeing man coverage I think DJ threw it shirt to give Slayton a shot at the ball.
the Bengals punt the ball and maybe DJ leads the team to another TD. The half ends, Giants 17, Bengals 3. Maybe Pierre learns a lesson tonight, or maybe he doesn't even make the practice squad.

Or maybe DJ throws a pick six. Or any fantasy you want.
about how the late great Reggie White son is in the game...LMAO.
They clearly said he is not the son of that Reggie White. And even quipped that he gets asked that often. The play by play guy is very good actually. Munoz not so much.

It may be all the beers I've had so far but... I saw Slayton ahead a step and have to turn back, adjust and go up and grab it. I love what I've seen from DJ so far but I feel this one may be a fortunate one for him. If it was a designed back shoulder/underthrow, well then, it was on point.
I actually think the Bengals announcers have been pretty good
they clearly have done some work on the Giants team, they've given pretty good background on pretty marginal Giants players, and they've pretty evenly given credit for good Giants plays.

Dolegala looks pretty good. Local kid from here in Central CT too of all places. Smooth mechanics, nice placement, might have something there as a developmental guy.

Werent the Giants looking hard at him before the draft?
Really? Yeah, that Daniel Jones performance was really "ugly."
Guess I should have been more specific. I wasn't referring to Jones or Eli for that matter. Nor most of the team. But the penalties and the officiating were awful.

Tae Davis
Take Davis
Tae Davis untouched.
Tae Davis.
to impress !!
Im not sure that you can in the preseason. If someone does know then Id love to find out, this Bengals coverage is brutal
Why?
LOL
When you compare to saquon, they all look mad slow. I re,beer with Jennings, every other guy looked like speedster
Looked bad. Who else do we have?
He looks pretty good, the Jones pick lit fire under him
His feet and mechanics look completely different now that hes not running for his life.
Yes my wife even noticed this.

with some strong arm throws on that drive.

Jesus. Hes a pro, right?
I will second that even so got to do better than that .
C'mon man - they smashed him.
splits the uprights? He snuck it in.
He'll be fine. But he should be thankful we're playing the hapless Bengals tonight.

can't have that !

I can see him dropping it after getting hit and then we say well yeah it was a tough catch, but he dropped it before the hit. That is a drop.
Yes.
Bob Papa normally doesnt screw that up?!
lol heard that........
Oh well - who cares.
Pre-Season
tough to tell them apart.
timing looks bad run blocking not good at all .
Agree, I would have liked to challenge that - I would imagine the Giants must have looked at it closely

They were also on the 30. That is definitely 4 down territory.
Maybe she should go to bed earlier. Does not look as he is billed tonight.
Too early yet. Made a good decision on a check down to Ellison. Thought he locked onto Fowler on 3rd down throw.
That slant went right where it should have been, whether or not he should have thrown it probably not.
you saw that Peppers was on a different guy and then left him to chase the other guy once the ball is in the air... right?
but there young gonna see a lot of growing pains .
Missing 3 corners doesn't help.

Not true. He was supposed to pick up that receiver. He got caught peeking in.
They are both invisible ..
A lot of youth and many still missing time. So its expected
Agreed.
yes, briefly
Only thing I can think of is he might have thought he was short of the sticks?
OL getting abused after first drive
Secondary leaving guys wide open
Dixon another short punt
WRs with a very very slow start.
Yes. And he caught a pass.
Barkley
Shepherd
Tate
Engram (he only was in a few plays)
Yes, the top 4 play makers on the team.
Yes.
D is going to make or break the early season.
Eli looks legit. Always has behind a competent O line.
nope looking back for the ball .....
Just like the Giants D
Looks like he thought the WR pushed off and there was no call
He felt like its OPI.
Just like the Giants D
The clueless refs are just as bad.

I understand but it would have been declined anyway.
I thought we might take Finley at #95 if we didn't take a QB in the first round.
I'm glad it's not just me noticing that.
yea a free pass. on solder ! Ugh
That was awful by Solder. He was beaten right from the snap. Jones was hammered.
Second that!
Smith kept his legs going nice TD !!
Nice ball placement and arm! Who said he doesnt have the arm strength!
Hell, probably cemented his roster spot with that
Slayton! Going to be hearing his name a lot. this year.
+1
Mainly the left side. The right side hasnt been nearly as bad.
I wouldn't be surprised after the game to find out that Jones has a concussion.
Eli personified!
Not a fan of the pick. But they should take their lumps with him this season
Cant wait for you to cheer on Eli like this every time he completes a pass :)

Trust me. I am loving Jones too.
He's going to get a ton of snaps.
This is a battle of the backups now.
He's part of the pass rush package. He had a sack last week. The call against him was BS.
I wouldn't say that. There have been good plays and bad.

That's a shame. Was hoping for a big night from him. He brings a lot to the table ST wise
He wasn't unblocked. He just totally juked the lineman
Agreed.
He has been a better returner than Jones
He's outstanding. Was just thinking the same thing. He's also been hugely complimentary.
They should let Golden return...he has experience doing that.
We had no time outs.
This is one of the youngest defenses in the league and lots of new faces. Id expect them to struggle

More than that, he got CRUSHED on that sack. A little similar to that big sack Eli took as a rookie against the Eagles. But he got back up and made a major throw with heat coming at him again.
OMG .... can't believe they took him with the 6th pick. Passed on all those brilliant QBs to take Barkley last year and now this guy?
He said at the beginning of the game that Diehl gave them an in-depth rundown of the team.

One thing that Diehl has a gift for is the gift of gab. He can make an ordinary story interesting. These announcers paid attention, indeed.

Love the movement in the pocket, love the look off and the shoulder action. Good rhythm. That's a pro qb.

On the second big play when he connected down the left sideline to Slayton, I feel like it was a great play by Slayton but an underthrown ball by Jones, unless he was *trying* to do some kind of a back-shoulder/intentional underthrow. Other than that, I think DJ had a good showing.
On another note, even though Eli has only had three drives this preseason, he has looked fairly sharp and confident, especially tonight.
he also had pressure he couodnt really step into the throw
Agreed. Which makes it even more Slayton's play than DJ's placement. With that being said, DJ looks so, so promising.
Apt name
And Week 1 of the regular season has become the "shake off the rust" game.
understood - must be NFL Sabermetrics and injury exposure. Makes all the more case for less preseason - IMO.

Disagree here. Slayton made a nice play, but he did not beat the CB. Seeing man coverage I think DJ threw it shirt to give Slayton a shot at the ball.
picked up 3rd and long
He does look good
Reggie White nice grab !
Dave, again, we have three corners not playing in this game that will be on the final 53.

These guys have depth on the roster.

Thought so as well.
KL has looked very good.
that is, good
Also no flips or somersaults
Do the Giants keep 4 TEs?
Certainly looks like Lauletta has the edge. Tanneys throws were terrible tonight
Or maybe DJ throws a pick six. Or any fantasy you want.

Dickerson is a much better blocker. Hes shown that he is a complete TE this Pre-Season.
KL could be worth $ some day.
They clearly said he is not the son of that Reggie White. And even quipped that he gets asked that often. The play by play guy is very good actually. Munoz not so much.
👍🏼
WR cuts are going to be something to watch!
What do we do with Golden?
What do we do with Golden?
How many WRs can we keep? 6 or 7?
What do we do with Golden?
I think there are probably about 6 roster spots that could go any which way - he may have snagged one.

It may be all the beers I've had so far but... I saw Slayton ahead a step and have to turn back, adjust and go up and grab it. I love what I've seen from DJ so far but I feel this one may be a fortunate one for him. If it was a designed back shoulder/underthrow, well then, it was on point.

Making a case...
WR cuts are going to be something to watch!
Because they are all average with the exception of SS and GT. And Slayton has a spot for sure. The rest are interchangeable.
Agreed.
but not the end of the world ...
Agree he was still had the Adrenalin flowing on
the muff....

Giants always find a way to make backups look great
Part of it is the QBs have been really good for the Bengals...some great throws.
Part of it is Zamort, Tolliver, and Sinkfield.
He won't. He's an easy cut.
Stupar is sub-par.
Does Goodson play specials? That could be the discriminator.

If this were a regular season game, I'd be pretty frustrated watching it.

Eric, true, tho by contrast our guys have dropped some nice throws.
Werent the Giants looking hard at him before the draft?
very good
Aside from Solder almost getting him killed, Flowers style, he looked pretty good.
Really? Yeah, that Daniel Jones performance was really "ugly."
I totally agree. Stupar has not impressed and Im assuming they played him a lot more in this game to give him that opportunity.
Couldnt this be the Regular Season?! 🤪
He really did look good. That scramble to get back to scrimmage was excellent.

Guess I should have been more specific. I wasn't referring to Jones or Eli for that matter. Nor most of the team. But the penalties and the officiating were awful.
