So far, only Zeigler is an improvement - the Tackles almost got Jones killed, and Hernandez was a train wreck. Solder is getting paid a ton of money but keeps getting pushed and run around.

That's unfortunately who Solder is. He's a sturdy, not dominant fixture, but pencil in a few really ugly plays a game.

obviously, we don't have a gamebreaker like OBJ - but this group seems pretty consistent across the board. They all can block, they compete, they are tough and they don't seem to make a bunch of drops when it matters (there may be one exception to that). I think it is going to be a very tough cut to pick the top six or so.

I do like that there isn't a guy who sulks if he isn't getting the ball. That allows for a more balanced and unpredictable attack. Add in Barkley and Engram and I think it will be a tough group to defend.

The WR group will be tough to cut down because they are all mediocre with the exception of Sterling and Tate.

he made a nice play from FS position, maintaining pretty close coverage on a medium crossing route and dislodging the ball once it appeared the receiver had his hands on it. Papa said it was a drop, unclear (to me) from the replay, but at minimum Love's hands affected receiver's concentration.

He's not a slot corner, imo. Haley has that job. Who knows if we ever see Beal on the field. One snap in pads in two years. Amazing

Really? Our QBs haven’t had clean pockets like this in I don’t know how long. Oline pass protection is easily one of the biggest positives thus far.

who is the 3rd tackle? Slade is a career journeyman who has been a camp body for his entire career... is he our swing tackle?

Haven't been impressed with Gates and Wheeler appears to be a goner.

Hopefully someone decent is on the waiver wire.

Also, the WR core is so meh. Bunch of JAGS without upside besides Sterling Shep and Slayton. Would be great if Slayton could emerge. Latimer is too inconsistent, Fowler is a JAG, and Sheppard is a ST guy with no upside at WR. First 4 games are going to be a struggle for the passing attack without Tate.

Defensively, this team just lacks big time players. Looks like a bottom 5-10 unit on paper. There is no Khalil Mack, Von Miller, Aaron Donald, or Fletcher Cox getting after the QB. Not even close. The LB's are slow. For all of the hype, Peppers still can't keep up with TE's.

Gonna be a long year.

Our backup WRs did look JAGy against the starting CBs, who were able to stick to their pockets and stifle the passes.

Ballentine will be the steal of the draft. I know he played for a small school, but he looks like the best of the young secondary. How did he not get drafted sooner?

Remember when folks on BBI where whining about this pick?
Yapping that we already drafted 2 corners, why not get a RT there, etc.

This is a great example of why you don't draft based on position, and draft based on how highly you value players.

A lesson the Giants should have learned over and over againt, can't shop hungry.
Going into the preseason..

I thought Goodson was a lock - that's likely not true and I think he's cut. It says as much about the other LB's as it does about him. We have had some really good flashes of play from the rest of the LB group.

Weird comment. The OL has been markedly better. Not sure what you're watching.

Also, it's Zeitler. Not "Zeigler" - Dusty left here a long time ago.

there was some bad play last night, and they weren't lights out vs the Jets first stringers.

Its not quite the immediate jail break it was at the beginning of last year but I'm not sure we can call it a strength just yet.

He is Exhibit A of the short attention span of the current sports fan. This poster has completely ignored preseason game #1 and #2, while focusing exclusively on the last game played.

I guess many fans are still thinking about our last five years instead of seeing what I clearly see.....unlike last year, we now have a much younger team that now appears to not have a glaring weakness.

Some say WR is a weakness. I disagree....the 7 who make the team are all more than capable of making plays and they all bust their butt off to do what it takes. I agree, if Slayton can stay healthy he can be so critical to allow us to open things up. I don’t know enough about Golden so I need to,read and look at film. I didn’t think he could make the team until now.

To those who think PEPPERS is slow do not know football.

To those who think we have no OL depth....who does? Can you tell me who are the back up players for the Cowboys or Eagles and what is so good about them?

To those who think we are poor at getting to the qb because maybe our DC has not shown anyone anything and is playing it all vanilla. In other words, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

I choose to look at all the good things happening in preseason:
1. 3-0
2. Daniel Jones
3. DL depth and Lawrence is a Beast
4. The Xman is rising up
5. The young and talented secondary is forming. When Baker returns along with Ballentine’s emergence, grouped with Jackrabbit and Healey.....me like
6. The new and improved OL...while having some down moments last night, over all they have been rock solid.(starters)
7. Rosas is still a Beast
8. Did we finally find our punt returner? I can only hope.
9. Even Eli has played well this preseason
10. Wait until you see the unveiling of SUPERMAN SAQUON

Someone pinch me...I love this team! Thank you DG and PS for molding them to play as a family. After all, it is a team game.

First let me say that I hope you're saying that 6 weeks into the season. For me I am not seeing much on defense, LB play still invisible with very little pass rush. As for Bettcher unleashing his blitz packages in season, let's hope they work because they were dreadful last season.

You can address me directly, don't be afraid.

I know it got a little rough for you yesterday but I'll give you a clean slate on a new topic if you want.

I'm happy to try to have a football discussion with you if you want.

Solder got his lunch money taken on one play in particular, but I don't recall him having some generally bad day.

That's very kind of you!

LOL. It got "rough" yesterday? I guess being the contrarian on the losing side of an argument makes one look at it as winning the next day!

It's daylight, but the dimness remains...

still truing to figure out how thinking that most players will benefit and develop with playing time is somehow a contrarian opinion but I guess I'll just have to live with that mystery

You can add me to that list I questioned the pick since we had spent a #3 on Beal the year before but Ballentine has
been a pleasant surprise I don't remember anyone he would
be this productive coming out of small school . He wasn't on anyone from BBI's radar that is for sure .

You can win with jags in the starting line up. Matter of fact you need jags in the starting line up. Problem with the giants the last few years has been not enough jags and too many slobs in the starting line up. Bad players sunk this team lately.

If the pass catchers behind shep and Engram and Tate are jags we are in great shape. We need ditch diggers more than anything and have since 2011.

Got home from the game. Pointing out we are thin at WR is nothing new, but I will add we are thin at running back also, other then Gallman, non impress at all. We may have a player in X-Man, and we have a player in Ballentine. Tanney llooked hhorrible, Jones is very impressive, and I like Russel Shepard.

Uh we are not thin at rb. If we are then every team is thinner. We basically have the best RBs in football.

He was good enough for the pats. He was good enough for the giants second half last season and David diehl was good enough for the giants.

He’s good enough. People complain about this guy but we’d be fucked without him. Get over the money for fucks sake. They all make a mint.
really at a a loss
bc4life : 8/24/2019 12:17 pm : link
why people cannot see the dramatic improvement in the OLine. Hernandez is stilla young player, still not going to get soem of the calls vets get. but he has way more positive plays than bad ones.
sorry bc but the OL had a poor outting vs a good bengals front
Torrag : 8/24/2019 1:01 pm : link
The run blocking was complete shite. The pass blocking regressed from the first two games including a brutal sandwich hit on Jones, and a handful of penalty calls to boot.

Now overall this pre-season the progress is apparent from last year. Thursday night was a setback which they can hopefully learn some lessons and move on from.
