Bought a Daniel Jones jersey?
Just curious...
He's had three very decent preseason games so far. Which can only be seen as promising when it comes to, tipping the scale of perception.
The scale at the moment a 1st round 6th pick was used on him... I gotta say was probably about 95% to the negative. For a myriad of reasons.
Then post draft, the scale likely moved closer to 80-85% negative as fans started to adjust to the reality. There was still shock and disbelief. Still concern about what was left on the table at 6 etc. Still apprehension about how we will be perceived as Giants fans as the rest of the football world laughs at us...but wait. There's starting to be some solid talk about Daniel Jones actual ability to play out there.
Then OTAs. He's looking good. Maybe that scale is only 75% negative now. Teetering either way. Let's see him on the field against non-Giants.
Pre-season. One possession. 5 for 5 with a TD.
Wham! Is that scale dead center now? 50-50??? Positive? Where is that collective scale of perception?
Where is it now? 3 pre-season games in? Are people buying his jersey? I mean, this isn't a pick like Eli was. We knew Eli was it. He wasn't gonna stink. He might not be Johnny Unitas, but he might just end up being Phil Simms II. Not if. When. I dont think we've felt that yet about DJ. Especially not while we still have Eli in the house!
But perception is swaying. Scales are moving. Who's buying Jones jerseys?
One further for me. Must retire with dignity. HoF optional.

My rule on buying a jersey is the player has to earn a second contract. Only then are they considered.

Those are certainly admirable, but I do like to wear it while they are playing. Right now, I would like a Barkley but he needs to earn his second contract.
I sold mine for 25 bucks at a yard sale
Do you have this all written down somewhere? Maybe in a binder?
Then you can say "I'm sorry I won't buy a Jones hersry, that would violate article IV section II"
but now starting to think the 8 would be pretty sweet especially if he does eventually end up changing numbers ... whether its this year or a few years down the road
and yes - after purchasing a boatload of OBJ gear the past few yrs I told myself Id only be buying retired players gear ... but Im a sucker

What is there to write down? It is a simple rule that I adhere to. Just because they earn a second contract doesn't mean that I will buy their jersey, but it shortens the list of eligible players that are considered. I never considered OBJ when he signed his second contract as he was a shithead. JPP only earned a second contract because Reese failed to sign a single 1st rounder to a second contract in a decade of tenure and felt the pressure to give a player with a half a hand a second contract. I'm proud to wear my Eli Manning jersey as he embodies what a true Giants is.
His last couple of jerseys have been Cruz and Beckham. I can't take the chance.
When Eli is done, I'll get a Jones jersey.
Thinking Barkley of course and maybe a Will Hernandez. I'm a bigger guy and I dig this guy. We're gonna be happy we have him for some time. He's my Diehl replacement on the line guy.
I'm giving thought to a DJ #8. But not until the Eli deal is done. I still keep my #10 in the closet for special occasions.
For those of you who take umbrage at grown men wearing sports jerseys with someone else's name on them. Cool. Whatever. You live your life I'll live mine. I hope to still be enough of a fan and kid at heart to be rocking a jersey of my favorite team when I'm 90, shitting my pants on a regular basis and struggling to put 2 words together.
Go Giants! (there... proves I'm not 90 yet)
