Shurmur said that this year's roster cuts is going to be trickier this year. He thinks this year they might end up cutting more guys who are going to be more attractive to other teams.
You think teams are lining off for castoffs from a team that won 8 games in 2 years?
Big upgrade in talent. Lots of young guys with upside. So, yes, that could be the case. As others have noted about the WR corps: There are lots of guys who are decent, just no real star at the top of the depth chart. Some of those decent guys are going to be available after cuts. S
Because there is one massive cut, I don’t think there will be a rush Â
scholarships for guys (Goodson) teams love looking at guys that were reasonably high draft picks that were let go early for whatever reason. Think they can turn them around. Ereck FLowers is still in the league.
I think it's around 20. You are going to be forced to cut guys you'd rather keep when you have that many. Probably a big part of why Gettleman traded down to get Baker. You can only keep so many guys so going down and getting a keeper on a 5 year option makes sense.
is certainly a hell of a lot better than it was a couple years ago, or last year.
Still don't think it's anywhere near where it needs to be, but Gettleman and company have done a much better job than Reese did in his last few years here.
Depth at many places is still a huge issue, but that's not going to get fixed overnight. The offensive line is still a huge concern. The guards are very good, but there is no depth whatsoever at any position and Remmers injury concerns and Solder getting older and not being great to begin with are big concerns for me. Not Gettleman's fault obviously (although I still would have preferred not signing Solder but I also understand why he was signed) and he has done a good job putting together a respectable starting lline since he got the job. He took the job and the Giants OL situation was one of the least talented/least productive lines in the history of the sport.
Giants have depth at DT and corner if Baker and Ballentine pan out, but every other position depth is a varying level of concern.
I've obviously been very vocal about not liking how Gettleman has gone about building this team since he took the job, but if Jones is as good as he looks so far or even close to it it will be make him look like a genius. I'd prefer to have Bradley Chubb and Daniel Jones long term than Barkley and Jones but if Jones is the real deal it's hard to argue anything he has done in the draft to this point. I just hope Barkley doesn't take a beating this year. There's a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the teams future but i still don't see a path to contending in 2018 so I hope Shurmur doesn't run him into the ground trying to save his job. Gettleman isn't going anywhere anytime soon if Jones is good but I wouldn't hesitate to fire Shurmur if the Giants are 5-11. 5-11 doesn't mean a failure of a season if Jones gets his feet wet and shows promise when the real bullets are flying, but I think the Giants can do much better at head coach.
Gettleman is earning the benefit of the doubt. I think his time with the Panthers is overrated, but any way you slice it he didn't do a bad job there. I'm not sure anyone could argue that Shurmur has ever done a good job as head coach. So he gets no benefit of the doubt in my opinion. Two bad seasons in a row and it's time to find a new coach.

This is what worries me about this entire situation. I think that Mara is forcing Shurmur to start Eli over Jones, but I also think Mara might fire Shurmur for a bad season. I just don't trust him after the McAdoo and Reese firings. Both deserved to be fired, and Reese hung on much longer than he should have, but it sent out really schizophrenic signals about his leadership. Are these guys autonomous or not? If you disagree with their moves are you going to fire them after you let them do something you disagree with? Are you going to push a move and let the guys below take the fall when it doesn't work out?
When you send mixed signals by saying 'I hope Eli plays all season, BUT it's up to Coach Shurmur BUT I hope he comes to me first' it put Shurmur in a really shitty situation that has obvious parallels to how the previous HC got fired.
I believe that Shurmur is a good HC, and I think he could win a superbowl with the right roster.
Just a gut feeling I have. I would prefer he sticks around until this rebuild is complete.
Rookie QBs rarely put together winning seasons, and even more rarely elevate sub-par talent. Eli rarely puts together a winning season, and hasn't elevated sub-par talent in years. This roster is certtainly sub-par.
Starting Jones is surely better for this team heading into 2020, but is Shurmur going to have a job here in 2020 with another 6-11 outing? Is he going to lose his job anyway starting Eli against his own advice.
I don't know and I get the feeling Shurmur doesn't know either. That uncertainty is not helping this franchise in the long term.
Veterans may have to wait until after Game 1, but this May create a bidding frenzy for vets.
This is a new situation that some teams will approach differently. I wonder how the Pats will approach it.
typically the guys we cut are out of the league thereafter
I see what you did there.
What does this roster have to do with the last two seasons? Almost none of these guys were around two years ago.
The Browns have a worse record over the past two seasons than the Giants. And that means absolutely nothing in regards to THIS season.
Oh wait... I mean
I think Asafo-Adjei goes to IR. I hope they are able to stash Evan Brown and James O'Hagan on the practice squad.
I really don't understand these comments. Sometimes teams make mistakes. The same mistakes that lead to guys like Tom Brady falling to the 6th round.
The Giants signed Shaun O'Hara from the Browns who had a terrible offensive line. The Browns made no effort re-signing him.
The Giants claimed Kevin Boothe off waivers from the Raiders. At the time the Raiders had one of the worst offensive lines in football.
Oh wait... I mean
LOL
George Takai: "OH MY!...."
Next time before you to post stop and think about it for a while.
Being clueless never seems to keep people from running their yaps.
