has been a giant among men this preseason.
The rookie QB is up to an 83.3 comp pct, 12.3 yds/att, and a 140.1 passer rating.
Those numbers are the highest in a rookie preseason since at least 2006 (min. 30 attempts).
Some additional perspective & #128071;.

Haskins YPA is 7.4. What a joke
She's as bad as Cris Carter.
And Haskins doesn't.
It amazes me the number of talking heads that just make shit up, and then speak it. Louis Riddick tried to make a similar sort of comment, something along the lines of "Giants were setting up Jones for success" and "Redskins were having Haskins push the ball downfield". Comical.
She's a worthless piece of garbage. Nothing to see there. I don't like Cris Carter. But at least he admitted earlier today that he is impressed by Jones thus far. Fuck Josina Anderson, though.
Sigh

Josina had made the comment that the Giants were protecting DJ by having him throwing mostly slants. She countered that Haskins was really pushing the ball down the field and it was an indicator of what should be expected by an NFL QB. She couldn't be more biased in her comments. She doesn't even realize that DJ has a high YPA.

It's comical, really. Jones has been the goods, he has the stats and passes the eye test. He's doing this under a lot of pressure too. I can't remember the last time I've seen the media nitpick about someone's success, and most if not all is unfounded. They're looking for something to discredit him, like its against back-ups, well yestderday disproved that, stares down his receiver, last two games disproved that.
Then with haskins or Murray, they be like I saw the flashes. Total BS.
He's doing great and seemingly a lot of people both in the press and the league see it. I'm glad he's getting well deserved praise.
There's a vocal minority who aren't paying a lot of attention -- maybe they should be paid attention to?

You and I watched the same segment. Riddick led with his comments and Josina chimed in with a supporting opinion of Riddick's comments.

Oh, just saw this. I agree with you. It is frustrating and sickening at the same time.
Yes. He's thrown it deep, intermediate, and short. Which makes sense considering, you know, at different points in an NFL regular season game, sometimes you have to throw it deep, sometimes intermediate, and sometimes short.
It's all ado about nothing. The detractors in the media (which admittedly has died down big time, there's only like 1 or 2 left maybe) are clinging onto anything they can, even if it makes no sense.
Jones was more accurate than Haskin on long balls in college, and that's continued in the pros. He throws a better long ball than Haskins.

Something? Hasn't DJ been throwing the ball downfield with regularity AND completing them with some impressive accuracy? Not sure what the talking heads are referring to?

It's interesting, because the way some of these people make it out, he's throwing 5 yard dump offs that are turning into big gains. It's almost been the exact opposite.
If anything, Haskins entire 1 season at OSU was mostly 5 yard dump offs turning into big gains. No one dinged him for that.
It is my perception, also. It is hard to make the claim without being labeled a racist. But I don't think it is a coincidence that Josina/Riddick/Haskins are all black - A sort of reverse discrimination. If Jones were black and Haskins white, I wonder if they would still share the same commentary.

indicated that the Giants were making things easy for Jones thru the types of reads he was performing. So the idea that they're "setting him up for success" is not something unfounded.
He also said that all teams do that with Rookie qb's and thats why you see more struggle in year 2 because they have more to look for
Plus that was after the first game. That's ~16% of the sample size we have now.
20+ air yards from the line of scrimmage
11% of all Daniel Jones attempts had 20+ air yards from the line of scrimmage.
12/44 483 yards 7 TD 2 INT 14 drops
When accounting for drops, Jones completion percentage jumps from 27% to 59%.
For reference, I’ll put out Dwayne Haskins numbers on the same throws.
10% of all Dwayne Haskins attempts had 20+ air yards from the line of scrimmage.
24/56 897 yards 14 TD 3 INT 4 drops
When accounting for drops, his completion percentage jumps from 43% to 50%.
Every Daniel Jones Deep Pass - ( New Window )
+100. The Danny Dimes moniker is cringe worthy.
She is super biased. Always took anyone else's side besides Eli's as well.
Agreed. If anything, in the limited time he's played, it seems like they had Jones throw the ball deep quite a bit for the time that he played.
Independent of what the draftniks were espousing, the moment Haskins lost me was at his pro-day. The combine - I noted his footwork was a mess, but he made all the throws. But at his pro-day, what I liken to as the most important job interview of his budding career, he was literally a hot mess. It showed a lack of commitment.
Isn’t that the mark of a good coaching staff though? I know dick about game planning but it seems the past two weeks have used more of the playbook for Jones than the first two weeks of pre-season ball.
Maybe I’m just dumb but I’m assuming it’s the coaches job to set the players up for success.
I think teams plan for their rookie QBs be successful simply because they feed off of success. You want to build up the QB's self confidence as he gets ready to play football at a much higher level.
Not sure. If so, he apparently has no fear throwing it deep.
That's exactly what I see. So, either we are both dummies or the guy who cannot spell his own name correctly is a dope.
Seriously? I think NFL coaches are supposed to just go for hail mary's all the time and always have predetermined passes.
Obviously, I am being sarcastic but, yes, you guys are correct. But these idiots in the media just have to make shit up to fit their narrative hence why I cannot watch them anymore. It is beyond brutal. You have to know which people to listen to and which ones not to. And here is a clue, almost everybody on tv is there for something outside of their knowledge.
And that’s literally how most of the successful offenses in the NFL function. It is literally what McVeigh does for Goff for the Rams. Coaches setting up their players to success? Are there coaches out there trying alternate approaches? Turchyn talked about this on Twitter, it wasn’t meant as a slight at Jones, it’s a common template used by some of the highest scoring teams in the league.

Based on his reads if he throws deep? Deep routes are more than likely built into each play.

I'm glad. A defense that doesn't have to fear the deep ball can certainly play everything in front more aggressively which affects the run game and short to intermediate pass game.

For real. I’ve never seen a rookie qb success in question like with Jones. He’s doing great, and the media are trying to find ways to downplay it
Quote:
this Jones/Haskins thing has more to do with race than anything else, with these Cris Carter/Josina Anderson media people
Oh, just saw this. I agree with you. It is frustrating and sickening at the same time.
Go back to marble racing ffs

And my issue with Riddick wasn't so much the comment about "setting him up for success" it was the insinuation that the Giants were handling him with kid gloves or had training wheels on him, while the Redskin's were somehow challenging Haskins...which I think has more to do with him covering himself for grilling the Giants over taking Jones over Haskins. Which if we are being honest, Jones should be ahead of Haskins early in his career he was a 3 year starter groomed by Cutcliffe, and Haskins one year starter..Haskins was supposed to be wet behind the ears.
