Found this somewhat interesting. I agree with at least some of it. Lets face it, we really wont know a thing about certain aspects of DJ's game until he faces legit NFL defenses who are game planning for him. I mean, Kyle Sloter has been a preseason all star for 3 years now. And 3 fumbles are concerning for sure.
What bothers me is that the criticism being directed at DJ is not being applied to Murray, Haskins and other rookie QB's. To my eyes, people cant seem to withhold praise from Murray and Haskins. Heck, on a night when Haskins went 7-13 playing exclusively against backups in the 2nd half, the main takeaway was that he threw a beautiful backshoulder pass that indicates future greatness!!
What are Daniel Jones critics saying now? - (

You don't have to caveat any commentary on their performances.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being encouraged and even a little bit excited by what we’ve been privy to, the negative perception only amplifies the pendulum swing.
We’ll see what the future holds But as someone who refrained from any judgment on the pick- I feel like our scouts and the general managers office did their job on this one and the draft overall looks pretty good. First discussion of the Skins game that I saw mentioned Haskins went 7-13, but showed more positives than negatives, and then showed the backshoulder pass as evidence of what he will eventually become. Thats it...no mention of the fact that this all occured in the 2nd half against what I would assume were 3rd stringers
If DJ did that...obviously cant prove anything, but I would imagine it would be something along the lines of "Giants fans may want to take Pat Shurmurs advice and slow their roll, as Daniel Jones showed that he still has a long way to go before any consideration of taking the Giants starting job. Jones completed just above 50% of his passes against backups in the seconds half"
The third one, no doubt. But the second one? Ehh...still feel that one could and should have been prevented. In any case...3 fumbles is 3 fumbles. They dont put asterisks on the stats showing fumbles that were legit or ones that could have been prevented. But If Eli had been the QB on that 2nd fumble, this place would have exploded.
Also, Sam Monson is the absolute worst. There are actually some solid guys at PFF that maintain the right perspective when it comes to their evaluations...he ain't one of them. The guy is pom pom waving groupthink dummy.

2 of them were him getting obliterated, anyone would've fumbled in those two situations.

Protection brokedown pretty quickly on that one. Eli is a 16 year vet, Jones is playing in his rookie pre-season. Eli has also had a penchant for throwing alot of picks at times.
But yeah. Those fumbles are really concerning......
I like everything about DJ but let’s calm down here and see what he can do when the bullets start flying.
I have never understood this race to jump to a conclusion on a guy, any player! Let’s all just take a pill here!
Seriously. Who even are those people? Seems like OP is just digging for criticism when THAT is your source here. A bunch of nobodies.
I know Emory Hunt didn't like the pick. He was all about Haskins. I think he's coming around, though. At least he's acknowledged that Jones has done very well so far.
Matt Waldman's RSP Film Room No.145: QB Daniel Jones (Duke) - ( New Window )
He's already doing what seasoned veterans learn after playing the game for 5 years, and he's doing it as a rookie.
He's also not just throwing to his first read.
Several of his big throws, he has found the one on one matchup and giving his guy a chance. He's placing the ball perfectly.
The bottom line is Jones would be having the same result whether its against starters or backups.
There is no defense for a perfectly placed ball. The critics will not back down, major pride issues here.
There are so many different guys covering the league and the Giants that it's not that hard to find decent coverage. Other than the discussion here and the press conferences, I follow big. BLue banter and big blue kick off live podcasts. That's enough coverage for me.
If you see a person who is making bad or biased take, the best way to impact them is to ignore them.
The first was probably more to do with the center the second yeah he should of held on to it better/ protecting it more but he’ll learn from it and the third he got plowed could of been anyone
I'm not paying for the bandwidth, so I don't really care.
I'm sure the guys they are complaining about appreciate it though
Yeah i noticed that also. He tries the "First read" angle when has been anything but taking the first read.
The other guy who asked said he folds under pressure, meanwhile he got sandwich hard and the very next play hit a beautiful long throw
Yeah. Just like they were silent about Eli, right?

I can’t stand Sam Monson, and I don’t mind PFF at all. The thing is, if PFF grades could accurately and reliably predict future NFL success...PFF would be shouting it from the rooftops and every NFL team would use them as part of their draft, it would be huge news...it isn’t.
Whether it was Simms, Eli, or Jones Giants QBs have endured disproportionate criticism
A lot of it is dislike for the Giants
You can find warts on all QBs , but, it is amazing how everything with regard to Jones is looked at with a negative prism and everything with regard to the other rookie QBs is viewed in a positive perspective
You can't blame them, Eli is never consistent
It's going to take about 2 years of actual regular season play to see if he is the real deal. There is tons to be excited about but it means nothing at this stage.
Know who else looks great in pre-season? Nathan Peterman. Everyone needs to settle down and stop pretending that the pre-season is an indication of anything.

I mean, why would you go to your second and third reads when your first is ALWAYS open and requires nothing but a simple throw.
Are Shurmur and Mike Shula the greatest offensive minds of our times? How do they scheme an offense to be this easy?
Daniel Jones hasn't proven much of anything...every Drafted QB is a Suspect.
All you can ever wish for is that the guy shows up and looks like he might be able to play the position---and that he's WORTHY of the next 2-4 years of proving it.
Jones looks like he might be able to play the position...and He's more imporessive as a Giant than he appeared to be (to my eyes) at Duke. He's halfway to being a good draft pick...the rest is projection and production.

The h8ers are now making up that Shurmur is Andy Reid.
All quarterbacks at the moment are playing preseason games and all that implies. Jones given equal circumstances has been one of the most impressive, just saying.
Im pretty sure Emory Hunt posts here every now and then, a lot of Giants coverage.
If you subscribe to the Athletic, Dane Brugler covers the NFL Draft for them. He actually put together a pretty nice 100+ page draft preview for subscribers.
Now they are all back tracking and LZ is in the R'R hall of Fame.
We will see who has the last laugh.
While I certainly think this will be true, you are doing the same thing the critics are:
Declaring a winner after a few preseason games. When will people learn to let things play out?

I think I read a fair amount of NFL content. I've never heard of any of those men.

Emory Hunt is a good dude and is generally pretty fair in his assessments. If Jones turns out to be a good QB, he will have no problem admitting he was wrong. He's given Jones plenty of credit this preseason already.
I agree with those who have said its still too early to expect people to eat crow. Its only preseason.
