Their is a marquee player off the list, and a number of teams with questionable depth behind the starter. A late round pick for Lauletta would seem possible. He's shown well in the Pre-season. Backup QB's are worth a mid round pick.
Rather than just wait and sign the guy after he is cut?
The Eagles and Cardinals traded players last week which seems really smart. A Safety for a DLineman. Each team didn't have to risk losing a player to another team via the waiver wire. I don't know why we don't see more of those type of trades before cut day.
If there are, as Shumer believes, desired players at 54-58, say, I wonder if the Giants would consider trading players not at the bottom of the depth chart but in the middle. For example, if TEs are rated Engram, Ellison, Simonson, Dickerson, Conrad and the difference between the last three is marginal, why not trade the #3 for a better return?
I will not be surprised if the Giants try to improve OL, DL and LB.
and then use a mid-round pick to replace him next year.
The more interesting and relevant question is will any of our cuts get signed by other teams? Maybe our tight end cut: Simonson or Dickerson, assuming we don't keep 4.

I think its because teams covet draft picks and figure why trade of x position player when every team is cutting guys that play x position and they are basically all at the same skill level. Will be interesting to see but both players in that Cardinals/Eagles trade could get cut next week, since they'd barely have time to learn the new system. When it comes time to fill roster positions 45-53 the players are very interchangeable.
players have little trade value. My guess is Gallman and Lauletta wouldn't net more than a sixth or seventh apiece. So why trade them? We'll put in some waiver wire claims, but I wouldn't expect anything dramatic in that regard either since other teams have a higher priority.

Others have addressed this but let me add that the Giants were able to trade RB Ryan Grant at the end of camp when they were loaded at RB. By trading for him, Green Bay could be sure of getting him rather than taking their chances when he hit the open market. It worked out great for them. Grant was a very nice RB for them, way more valuable than the pick they gave up. And for the Giants, getting anything for him was good since they couldn't keep him anyway.
lb martin, stupar
db chandler, Toliver
ol wheeler, brown
wr who ever is #7 on depth chart between Russell, golden,r shepperd,t j jomes
some of these guys are not going to make final 53 and if we can get anything for them all the better
i.e. a team of need like indy and maybe tenn for a qb

You can get a late pick if there will be competion to sign a guy when cut, I don't think that player is on the Giants roster.
