This is late for a player like him to be cut, wonder why.
Or early, depending on how you look at it. Maybe they let him go early to let him get a head start on finding a job elsewhere, as the Giants did with D'amari Scott.
I have no opinion on the guy, don't know anything about him. But the question isn't "Is he good?" We know the answer to that is "No, not very." Otherwise he wouldn't be available right now. The question is "Is he better than the worst safety on the Giants' roster?" If the answer to that is "Yes" or at least "Maybe" then you kick the tires.

Well sometimes players who are good do get cut because of circumstance. After reading on it Dolphins fans too don't totally get it. It was because of him and Reshad Jones but still was a surprise move. He was solid contributor for them. See comments @ https://www.thephinsider.com/2019/8/25/20832563/dolphins-release-t-j-mcdonald. Now i'm not itching for this guy but he's had a lot of production and he will find a new team quickly. Not sure we're a great fit regardless.

I stand corrected on whether it's possible he's good.
So, is he better than the worst safety on the Giants? If so, yeah, kick those tires.
Not seeing a fit.
Not sure where you're HWS numbers come from. He was 6'2 at combine, ran 4.59, and was 215, not 236.

I got them from Wikipedia.

McDonald has been searching for a position since he got to MIami. Based on his past performance, I don’t know why they signed him.
Dolphins had him playing some LB this preseason so maybe he can play “moneybacker. On the other hand, maybe they cut him because he couldn’t play LB.
I am confident that DG can make the decision.
McDonald’s dad was really, really good. TJ seems to be more of a ‘tweeter.
