How did Haskins look this summer?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/1/2019 9:03 pm
We all know Jones had a helluva summer, but I'm curious how the man who shook his head when we took DJ played this preseason? I know he's not starting Week 1. Any of our DC BBIers want to chime in?

Hilarious
I live in DC area. Watched some of his games.
bradshaw44 : 9/1/2019 9:18 pm : link
He doesn’t look terrible. He definitely flashed some ability that made me think if he is developed right and has a good OL he could be a decent to good QB. Had a few cross body throws on the move that were right on the money. He has promise.
He did well...
M.S. : 9/1/2019 9:18 pm : link

...here are his pre-season stats. What they don't reveal are some of his throws which were quite amazing. This guy can zing the ball deep, far and accurately!

Dwayne Haskins; Washington Redskins; #15 Overall Pick; Round One
Attempts 58
Completions 32
Completion Pct. 55.2%
Yardage 409
Yards/Attempt 7.1
TDs 2
INTs 2
Sacks 5
Fumbles Lost 1
Consensus here in DC is that:

He has shown flashes of brilliance but is still raw and needs work.

Overall they are very optimistic about his future here.

I thought the same thing. He definitely has arm talent. A few of his throws made me sit up and pay more attention.

This is right. He's made some terrific medium length throws. And showed some toughness getting whacked in the pocket and delivering some nice throws.

With Williams holding out, and a receiving corp as milquetoast as ours (although I really like McLaurin), the conditions aren't close to ideal.

Will be very interesting to watch his career in parallel to Jones
Giantfan in skinland : 9/1/2019 9:40 pm : link
Much like Eli, Ben, and Rivers.

As excited as I am about jones, Haskins' play has definitely also made me say "hmmmm."
At Ohio St, Haskins had great protection, while Jones didn't have that
Ira : 9/1/2019 9:45 pm : link
at Duke. Jones protection in preseason has been much better than Haskins.
Haskins may really benefit from sitting a year.
81_Great_Dane : 9/1/2019 9:47 pm : link
Especially since their O-line is a wreck.
Him and Erik Flowers have a bright future together
NephilimGiants : 9/1/2019 9:53 pm : link
He didn't look like Daniel Jones.
Mr. Bungle : 9/1/2019 10:01 pm : link
That's for damned sure.

These aren’t bad for a rookie in preseason but they’d suck for a starting QB in the regular season. The question is can he improve.
Anybody know whether he played against 1st string defense?
GeofromNJ : 9/1/2019 10:25 pm : link
.
I’m not sure Haskins got in the first half of any games
BSIMatt : 9/1/2019 10:53 pm : link
There were games he was still in during 4th quarter.
His footwork is a mess.
George from PA : 9/2/2019 5:31 am : link
He relies heavily on his strong arm but without stepping into his throws....he loses that advantage.

I am also not overly enamored by his accurancy. Its ok...not great.

Both his picks were to rookies.

He hasn't started any games fwiw.

Haskins is consistency. He also gets into footwork problems.

But don't kid yourself, he has a shot to be one of the best QBs in football.

You can say that for any QB drafted in the first round. They also have a shot to all be a bust. We just won't know yet for a few years.

except Haskins has an electric power arm and the others don't
Saw him play quite a bit. Strong arm for sure but
Jimmy Googs : 9/2/2019 5:49 pm : link
seemed like he relied upon it too much often falling back on throws or not having his feet underneath him. Thought he did a good job of continuing to look downfield on plays.

Seems like an energetic type player, but also took some good hits during preseason which you do not want...

he definitely needs time and coaching to turn into a finished product. And he needs to be receptive to it.
He looked fitter than in the leadup to the Draft
Torrag : 9/2/2019 5:54 pm : link
His arm was as advertised. Plus arm with plus release. Struggled at times reading defenses but showed improvement in limited reps. Had some good moments moving within the pocket and breaking out for some scrambling yards. Overall a solid start for Haskins. Redskins were wise to give the nod to Keenum for now. Haskins needs some time to develop.

Doesnt mean anything. So did JaMarcus Russell.
Having a strong arm doesnt guarantee a QB, coming into the league, nothing.
Maybe Haskins has a future...

sure.. but it doesn't suck either. the kid has a lightning bolt for an arm. nothing wrong with that.
