excited to see Montgomery for Chicago. He's been the talk of the town over there
I sure hope so. Heard nothing but good things about him in preseason write ups and went all in with him on my different fantasy teams. Nagy has gone out of his way to praise him and according to reports they held him back in the preseason so he can be the feature back in the season.
You don't typically hear that type of hype on a third round pick, but I am drinking the kool aid!
I have Adams of GB and Montgomery of da'bears in fantasy
i did the same - Nagy was the OC for Hunt's rookie year in KC and used him in all sorts of creative ways. Thinking they found a similar back in Montgomery without the baggage
GB may have spent some money on D but they are still dead last in the league in cap space devoted to defense, and their top six cap hits are on offense.
Giants are in a virtual tie for the 29-31 spots in least cap space devoted to defense. Packers are the only team that is a clear notch below, 32 out of 32.
LOL, Adam Schein just a couple hours ago was going on about how the Bears defense would take a big step back this year and the team would struggle big time because Fangio left.

Doesn't look that way to me.
maybe they are just hyped tonight.. or maybe they are about to deliver on the hope that they will have an all-time great peak (a la 85 Bears, 00 Ravens, 75 Steelers...)
Look at this offense without mike McCarthy, no one looks like they know whats going on
who is this kid coaching the Packers? Why has he been given the keys to the career of the most talented QB of the last 25 years? This is weird and looks like it is going to be a problem.

McVay responded the other day when asked about Goff's ownership of the Rams offense. "What are we in Green Bay?"
And there's been plenty of rumblings that Rodgers had a lot of influence in getting McCarthy his walking papers.
to hear the takes if Eli lobbed one up like that for grabs!
true, but i'll say this. Rodgers takes good gambles. He knows the matchup, knows the size / speed advantages, better than any QB... maybe ever. That's his super power. if he's throwing it up for grabs he usually knows his guy has position and some advantage that gives him a big edge.

I agree it is a bad look for Rodgers but cmon, he is highly respected. We'll see where3 this goes.

I'd say he's highly talented, but coaches don't want or need that even if it's only 10% true.
Dan Snyder has been notorious at times with letting star players go past their coaches and speak directly to him...so ownership is responsible too if they're allowing that to happen.

I hear what you are saying. But let's be clear, Rodgers is better than highly talented. He's an all-time great. You don't think Brady talks to Kraft? A lot of teams would kill for Aaron Rodgers and most coaches would be thrilled to coach him.
I need to follow the rest of the teams closer, cause I dont think I ever heard of this guy until 10 minutes ago:). You are correct, having himself a game for sure.
I don't think the Bears have ever had a wow offense in my lifetime and that includes the Walter Payton years.
Of course. I agree. But Nagy was supposed to super charge this offense. He's the genius young gun in the mold of McVay. But this looks boring and predictable.

I think they should use those 3 RBs even more and take the ball out of Trubisky's hands.
I love how they keep showing the obligatory shot of LaFluer....
For some reason, this post reminded me of how I could never recall ever seeing Art Shell talking to anyone on the sidelines whenever they showed him during Raiders games. Never talking to a player. Never talking to another coach. Never talking into his headset. Never even talking to officials.
The defenses have been more fun to watch. GBs secondary is pretty good, and the Bears pass rush is ridiculous. Bears offense looks pretty boring, but yeah first two weeks of football tend to be like this. Trubisky is real meh to me, cant believe he was a #1 pick.
I can't take the pictures of Rodgers with that stache
the 2004 Cal vs Oregon game on one of ESPN channels last night. Rodgers was the QB, JJ Arrington was the #1 RB, and a freshman phenom named Marshaun Lynch was spelling Arrington. Rodgers had an elite arm for college, he would barely wind up, just fling it. Lynch was something, carrying people just like he did in the pro's even though he was a freshman. You could see he would be great.
That was a good team. They were ranked #4 at the time.

Funny. I saw the the last 10 minutes of that, too.
Oregon had some talent as well with Kellen Clemens, Geoff Shcwartz, Patrick Chung, Max Unger.
RE: I can't take the pictures of Rodgers with that stache
it was Steve Young who has the Bears as his darkhorse for NFC Champion and who said Trubisky is ready to step into the role of an elite QB. It might have been Hasselback. Someone who clearly didn't know what they were talking about.

Let's see a bit more first.
Bears, IMV, definitely have a championship caliber D.
This is the game you get when you have snowflake training camps and super careful pre season games.
It wasn't as terrible as people are going to portray it though...both defenses played well. Still there's still a lot of chemistry that needs to be built among the offenses
Defense really is improved, or if Trubisky and the bears offense just made them look better than they are. Brutal night for the bears, doesnt get much worse than that.
I basically didn't watch the second half until the last 4 minutes. Trubisky looks like shit. I'd be livid if I was a Bears fan, holding Rodgers to 10 points and still losing. It seems the Bears will never have a good QB, though there still is time for Trubisky I guess, but that last INT was an awful throw into double-coverage when he still had another down to go.
Defense really is improved, or if Trubisky and the bears offense just made them look better than they are. Brutal night for the bears, doesnt get much worse than that.
Trubisky is a mercurial QB that had one of his bad games and it is Week 1...but I really think the GB D can be one off the best in the league. They have made huge upgrades in the offseason. First at DC as Pettine has kind of been forgotten but is one of the better coordinators in the league. Then at the pass rush, overpaying for the two biggest names but immediately injecting life into a dormant pass rush. Most importantly, a unit overlooked by most fans, in the secondary. Their top 3 corners last year were two rookies and a 2nd year player/first year starter coming off the IR. They also replaced the worst starting safeties in the league with top FA in Adrian Amos and a 1st round rookie that is getting a ton of buzz as a potential elite S in Savage. They're the real deal.
but Packers defense has improved. They have been slowly improving their defense which is a good thing. They have been having decent decent drafts.
I think this is true...they tackled really well last night, Montgomery could never get going. And as much as Trubisky is no great shakes, the Packers didnt give his receivers much room at all
series and than they realize that shit wasn't working and they just went back to Rodgers offense. Aaron Jones fantasy owners probably pretty pissed. Although it was one game against one of the best defenses in the league.
Why didn't Montgomery get more touches? He looks like a much better
player than Mike Davis. At first I thought it may have been pass blocking issue and then I realized the Bears never keep their RBs in to block. What the fuck is up with that Nagy?
RE: Well to be fair that looked like the coaches offense for the first two
series and than they realize that shit wasn't working and they just went back to Rodgers offense. Aaron Jones fantasy owners probably pretty pissed. Although it was one game against one of the best defenses in the league.
Oh, I know. I called it when it happened. As you can see, I had "Coach Rodgers" in my threadstart hours before the game even started.
player than Mike Davis. At first I thought it may have been pass blocking issue and then I realized the Bears never keep their RBs in to block. What the fuck is up with that Nagy?
Thought Nagy said it'd be a RBBC. Cohen was basically a slot receiver, Davis seemed to play passing downs.
RE: Trubisky is the type of QB that teams fall in love with at draft time
Great arm, great pocket awareness, great athlete, terrible decision maker. If Nagy wasn't there he' be a total coach killer.
i think he has more problems than just being a terrible decision maker (which is of course totally true). He may have ok arm strength but he is an inaccurate passer. yes he hits the occasional impressive throw, but he is highly inaccurate to all fields, he is as likely to throw a shit pass as a good one. And he does not look to have great pocket presence to me. He often looks rattled and it seems many times the game is too fast for him. He does move well but often he looks bad standing in the pocket.
awareness is tremendous. Him and Sam Darnold look like the same QB at times, but Darnold is way more consistently accurate.
i guess based on last night i don't agree about pocket awareness being good. yes he moves well but he often looks frazzled standing in the pocket, often when it doesnt seem warranted, and he rushes throws which contribute to his accuracy problems.
I thought his presence was on display last night, he slides around
Barkley is much bigger and faster than Cohen. On Saquon's 78-yard touchdown run against the Redskins, he reached a top speed of 21.91 miles per hour, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. Barleys touchdown run goes down as the fastest speed reached by any player on a rushing touchdown during the 2018 NFL season. Saquon was the third-fastest player in the NFL last year. Cohen was not ranked.
Many players run extraordinarily fast 40-yard dash times but are not among the fastest NFL players. John Ross is an egregious example.

Barkley is a singular talent.
Barkley is not much faster than Cohen. Cohen also had a 70 yd run that exceeded 21mph. Barkley is much bigger, yes, but not much faster.
I like them to cover that 3, though.
I sure hope so. Heard nothing but good things about him in preseason write ups and went all in with him on my different fantasy teams. Nagy has gone out of his way to praise him and according to reports they held him back in the preseason so he can be the feature back in the season.

Can Da Bears D sustain their terrific turnover production?
We will see!
That would be some shit if Montgomery bursts onto the scene like Hunt did in 2017.
...Bears will win by big margin!
Should also come out motivated and hungry after the way they lost the playoff game last year. Watch as their kicker done goof up again!
The NFL should be Sundays only.

ha. holy shit was that bad
apparently.
Not so sure about that one.
Think there has only been one undefeated team in the Super Bowl era - '72 Dolphins.
I think that wa a "point of emphasis" this year. DLine holding...
I think he can be decent and efficient. You can probably win with him. But not some superstar..
Any time they emphasize anything they get it wrong.

Well, these are tough circumstances to start the season.
In Chicago, opening night, against a fierce D.
So...lets give it some time to settle...

Of Course he is.. Brady two seasons had the worst OL thru 4 or 5 games. Won the Super Bowl. Plus he can make a great line with Solder.

Probably read one of those preseason list ranking him higher than Manning. How many of these guys do you think Eli has outlasted by now?
Yes.

Then it wasn't Cohen's fault - it was the coaching staffs fault.
every game will be this bad..

dude can run. he is probably the fastest rb in the league. he has some moves. problem is he is small. so he's a joker..

Lol. I remember that too.
Nagy said during the summer they didn't get him enough touches, yet here we are
Chicago still has 3 TOs.
That was a split second away from a pick six.
It wasn't as terrible as people are going to portray it though...both defenses played well. Still there's still a lot of chemistry that needs to be built among the offenses
Joe Gibbs at least did football before racecars

Ah, you're not the only one. There is a tweet with this pic that got a lot of people.
I think this is true...they tackled really well last night, Montgomery could never get going. And as much as Trubisky is no great shakes, the Packers didnt give his receivers much room at all

Credit goes to dep. He pointed out it to me through an email
👍
That shit would have fooled me too.
The Coach Rodgers stuff had me cracking up last night.
Oh, I know. I called it when it happened. As you can see, I had "Coach Rodgers" in my threadstart hours before the game even started.

Can Rodgers win MVP and Coach of the Year in the same year? Has this ever been done before? Has it even been attempted?
Thought Nagy said it'd be a RBBC. Cohen was basically a slot receiver, Davis seemed to play passing downs.
i think he has more problems than just being a terrible decision maker (which is of course totally true).

I could totally see that!
i guess based on last night i don't agree about pocket awareness being good. yes he moves well but he often looks frazzled standing in the pocket, often when it doesnt seem warranted, and he rushes throws which contribute to his accuracy problems.

You were certainly into something with that angle. It was very funny...
