SNY: Remmers practiced today

When the Giants' first injury report surfaced on Wednesday, it wasn't a good sight to see starting RT Mike Remmers in the "Did Not Participate" section.

But that didn't last too long.

Remmers was seen at practice on Thursday, and the Giants updated their list to say that he was a limited participant. He was initially listed as battling a back ailment and illness.

The back was the most concerning note, given the back surgery he recovered from this offseason. However, head coach Pat Shurmur said it was more the illness that came out. He's also "not concerned" about Remmers' availability in Week 1 against the Cowboys, per NJ.com's Ryan Dunleavy.

was "limited" which possibly suggests that this is more about the back than Shurmur is letting on.
They will never give a direct answer

They'll say he's fine even if he's not, but the injury reports can't be falsified or inaccurate or else they subject themselves to fines and punishment.

A fair chunk of the goals of this season rest on a surgically repaired back.
It should be noted that

two Pro Bowl OL for Dallas - Tyron Smith and Zach Martin both missed a large chunk of the preseason due to balky backs.

Love what DG has done over last two years but addressing the RT position with a tackle coming off back surgery however minor, seems to be taking too much of a chance with what a lot of us acknowledge as the key unit on the team. I get they couldnt go big time free agency because of cap and overpriced free agents, but this seems to be a pretty big bet. Will see how plays out but I hope it doesnt come back to bite us all year. Nobody in draft at all through first four rounds? Mid rounder maybe not as good as what we have due to adjustment to pros Iguess.

Remmers is a risk - we all knew that going in. They're trying to get one year out of him as a stopgap and address ORT in the next FA period or draft. It's not ideal, but we couldn't get long-term answers everywhere in one shot. This is just kind of what we had to do in a couple spots for the time being.

Just going to have to hope for the best and hope we can get a good amount of games from him.
