Can't remember when the team carried 4 TEs ....

Manny in CA : 9/5/2019 8:28 pm

Engram, Ellison, Dickinson & Tomlinson

Seems look they could use more help in the O & D lines, so what is the logic ?

Does this mean that we may see a lot more "22" personnel, given that our receiving corps is thin (loss of OBJ & Tate [for four games] ?

They can run down field with him plus the amount of trick plays by playing around with coverage. I love TEs, a nice big target
2017 had 4 TEs

Ellison, Engram, Adams and LaCosse.
Laccose was Inactive but they carried those 4 a good part of the year

Other than that, yeh most years they have carried 3.

Seems like TE’s will play a major role in this offense this year, hence the depth
NYG TE position could play monumental role in 2019 - ( New Window )
BBB recently started a good thread about this

Not sure what the surprise is here?

The Giants run a ton of 2 TE sets. They want both receiving and blocking TEs based on the package. TEs are easily one of the most injured positions in football. You need to carry 4 when they are a big part of your O.

1 RB - Barkley
2 TEs
2 WRs

Can pass or run out of that formation.

is not an oddity. In fact, a couple of years ago the Giants depth chart started showing TWO starting TEs (just like they show two starting WRs).

Throughout the NFL, as FBs have waned, TEs have become more important. Most teams have a "receiving" TE and a "blocking" TE on the field.

I think we're in for a lesson in what this is as opposed to pass protection blocking -- two different things. I don't think we had much of either last year.
