Conrad, you think? Hmm, I don't see that with us already carrying 4 TEs. I think it's a DL, either Jenkins or Slayton.
Yes, but Mayo gave them 9 LBs (5 ILBs) and so if he outperformed Stupar in practice this week (for whatever 3 days are worth) then Stupar became superfluous and the 53rd man for when they needed extra depth elsewhere.

Jenkins signed with Miami.
Ah duh, Jenkins not even on the practice squad, that was a dumb typo lol. I meant the DE they have on the PS, Freedom... what's his last name again? Amalakookaboolahmalamala or something lol.
adds $225K to our big dead money pool and saves $510K against this years cap. Of course, he has to be replaced with someone else's salary. (OTC)
$135K of that provisional dead money (the salary guarantee part) might get offset if he manages to catch on with another team for a few weeks during the season.
For now, if Stupar's roster spot goes to a rookie like Slayton, there will be a small net savings. If the replacement is a young vet like Elder, or another vested vet on a qualifying minimum deal, there will be a small cap hit because of Stupar's salary guarantee (assuming he doesn't catch on elsewhere later in the year).
Either way, these are not numbers that have much impact, even for a team that is up against the cap. The Giants can easily free a bit of space if they need to. Also, keep in mind that the Giants probably didn't pay Mayo any bonus at all; the 49ers guaranteed him $1.15MM, although they will probably wiggle out of about two-thirds of that commitments because of offsets from his NYG salary, which will become guaranteed tomorrow.
That there are no plans to fill the vacancy this week, which leads me to believe they have a veteran that they wanna bring in for a workout after Monday. If they sign a vet after the cowboy game the salary is not guaranteed.
George: Are you referring to Mayo, or the subsequent addition that takes Stupar's roster spot? Neither is likely to be a big deal. Mayo will be paid for the full year, but will probably qualify for the minimum salary benefit - in which case the only possible cap impact of swapping those LBs is Stupar's small salary guarantee. The newer new guy could be anyone, and his salary could be anything from $495K to, well, whatever.
... and sign a vested veteran to a qualifying minimum contract for the remaining sixteen weeks, the cap hit for his salary will be about $607K. That's 16/17ths of the minimum salary for a player with two years of credited tenure.
is emphasizing the TE and one of the three TEs on the roster - Garrett Dickerson is dinged - then Conrad would be the likely choice to elevate from the practice squad.
If the idea is to sign an experienced pass covering lb to replace Stupar then Brandon Marshall may still be available...

There are four TE's on the roster. Ellison, Engram, Dickerson, and the new guy, the ex-Jet.
But I don't see that being realistic for any of the "names" out there since the Giants have no cap room unless that signing comes with another move like a veteran cut (not league min) or a restructure.

Yea, I'm guessing Mayo looked good in practice this week and someone is available that they want to add elsewhere.
I'll guess a DL since its the one position on the roster that is obviously lacking some depth.

Coach McGaughey got his guy. Here’s hoping he and Gettleman remember Mayo accurately, not through rose-tinted Carolina glasses.

It's not like he has big shoes to fill...
Gives them more of a rotation to keep the DL fresh against that Oline and running game.
Our roster isn’t quite there yet, but one thing this regime isnt afraid to do it replace guys who can’t cut it

I’d started a thread on ‘surprise cuts’ - I said they’d keep Taufeua (so) over Goodson and Stupar. And it came true, even if Taufeua is on the PS.
He's all yours, guys!
As they will get a NFL salary for the year.
Did not mean...cap related.

Well, no. They kept Davis and Connelly - and acquired Mayo - over Goodson and Stupar. The Giants "kept" Tauaefa like Dorian "hit" Alabama. ;o)
I get that it didn’t happen exactly the way I predicted, but I wasn’t that far off.
He kept getting better and better, every game he played, while Stupar's performance went down hill
