BBI Giants-Cowboys Game Preview Now Available

FYI...

Preview: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, September 8, 2019 - ( New Window )
Pretty similar outlook
Thegratefulhead : 9/6/2019 1:40 pm : link
A break early would be nice.

We are not built for big comebacks.

I am praying we do not throw an interception on our first throw or series. Please no early game turnovers.

Dallas is in my head as a fan. I feel like shit always goes wacko when we play them and the wacko never helps us.

I feel this team needs to play mistake free, solid fundamental football to win in Dallas.

Even if they lose I would strongly prefer Eli plays very well.

I think this season gets out hand fast if the calls for Jones start game one. That kind of stuff divides and distracts a team.
Thanks so much for informative game review...
M.S. : 9/6/2019 1:43 pm : link

...always look forward to reading them.

Running straight at the Dallas D is one tactic I hope pays dividends this Sunday. Their LBers flow so quickly it's really hard to stretch the field and get a soft corner on them.

Every "rational" thought I have about this game comes down to the following: This is a bad game to judge this Giants team; Dallas is simply superior; they will come out sky high at home in their season opener; and they will play keep away with the ball.

But maybe the Giants catch the Cowboys reading their own press clippings. Maybe there has been one too many distractions, beginning with the "will he / won't he" signing of their star running back.

I don't think for a hot New York minute the Giants can come from behind to beat this Dallas team. A win means we came out early, threw several round house punches; landed a few; and before Dallas could totally regain their composure the clock ran out on them!

Giants 24
Dallas 21

It drives me nuts when teams try to outrun fast linebackers... it's not that Saquon can't outrun these guys to the corner... the linebackers usually get there before the blockers. I'd run off tackle and up the gut on these guys.

The thing is this... if they want to cross Dallas up early, Eli has to connect or we're going to be in deep shit.

I don't expect the Giants to win Sunday
Chris684 : 9/6/2019 1:59 pm : link
which kind of sucks during the lead up to the game but maybe in the big picture always works out better.

Them winning a game I expect them to lose is obviously way better than them losing a game I expect to win.

Sunday night my only 2 outcomes are either knowing what I thought was going to happen, or very, very pumped up for a big early win which could shape the season.
I watch a lot of games with my dad
bceagle05 : 9/6/2019 2:10 pm : link
and every time the Giants get stuffed on an outside run attempt versus Dallas, my dad says, "Can't run outside on these guys." I've heard him say it a hundred times the last few years - at first I kinda rolled my eyes, but he's absolutely right. No point in trying.

Yup, it's practically a wasted play.

Also, look for Shumur to try to set up that wheel route to Barkley. That's a bread-and-butter play for us.

THE FINAL WORD:
My heart says ďScrew the Cowboys! We can beat the media darlings!Ē My head says these two teams are in vastly different places right now. The Giants may have a respectable year, but their first win is not likely to be on opening day. If the Giants do lose, Eli Manning will immediately be feeling the heat.

Suppose Eli plays well but the rest of the team - especially the defense - plays like crap? Suppose the offensive line isn't nearly as improved as we've hoped, the run game suffers because of it, and Eli is under constant duress? Suppose his receivers let him down? They're not the most sure-handed bunch to begin with. If Eli plays like crap, then yes, he should absolutely feel the heat. But if he doesn't and the Giants still lose the game, blaming him for the loss would be grossly unfair.

That would be one Hank Stram who used the term matriculate and
few ever heard the term before he used it .

It's like were the sacrificial lambs for the Cryboys
No question they are a talented team and well coached .
But man a win down there would certainly be FU to
BSPN and other bandwagon fans the lap dogs .
Eli will have to play mistake free and make some great
throws to pull this off
If anyone can its Eli !
I'd look for some misdirection

Beating the Cowboys and beating their running game are the same thing
BillT : 9/6/2019 3:34 pm : link
If they can churn out the yards running you have almost no chance to beat them. Now that's true of most teams but most teams don't rely on it like the Cowboys do. I don't know if we can do that but I don't know we can't either. Lots to learn about the Giants but I don't see this as some bellwether either. Dallas is very good and should win at home. We have a number of more winnable games coming up soon. A good solid effort could go a long way.

Saquon likes to bounce it outside, he needs to stay disciplined.
Eric, I actually think itís a good game
Dave on the UWS : 9/6/2019 4:27 pm : link
for a measuring stick. Dallas (and Philly) have owned us because of 1. Superior OL and 2. Superior front 7. If we show weíve closed the gap, the game should be competitive. Where we have an advantage, is Barkley can make the difference in close, competitive games. What Iím expecting, is a more effective offense than many expect and an inconsistent defense. Looking great one play and blown off the ball the next. A 31-24 Cowboy win would not surprise me.
I am thinking its going to be a close loss
Dinger : 9/6/2019 4:47 pm : link
for the Giants. I am hoping they at least show up prepared and ready to play. But either way, I think this is the first week of a QB controversy no matter how Eli/The Giants play.
Great write up.....hit the emotional tone of all us.

...I've always been of two minds about Saquon bouncing runs to the outside. Sometimes he messes up and takes a loss, or bigger loss than had he just plowed straight ahead, and ultimately puts his team in a hole.

Then, again, sometimes he breaks off a long run by bouncing to the outside!

Maybe it comes down to situational football and the risk / reward. If, for example, the Giants have first and ten at their own 12 yard line and he bounces outside for a 5-yard loss rather than a 1-yard gain, then the offense is in trouble.

And if it's third and six and there is zero hole for him to run through, then maybe it's worth the risk for him to freestyle a little!

Clearly, it's a fine line with no hard and fast rules.

Good Overview
Festina Lente : 9/6/2019 6:06 pm : link
Truth is, my hope is not so much to win but to avoid getting blown out, but I am a pessimist at times. I have little confidence in our defense and I hope that our coach and motley group of recievers find a way to make our offense a little less one-dimensional/predictable. If they manage that I'd be pleased; anything more, including a win, would just be a bonus.
Bouncing it outside is fine,
Simms11 : 9/6/2019 6:06 pm : link
as long as our TEs are out there blocking. Key in this game along the front is the TE blocking IMO. Would also like to see Penny smash one or two of this LBers as well!

preview. Somebody other than Saquon needs to produce. On defense, we need to get to Dak.
Two keys
jvm52106 : 9/6/2019 7:00 pm : link
not talked about much:

Giants using multiple TE's and throwing from that package- in that case Engram is not they key but Ellison is. He will be faced with LB only coverage. If they call for passes with this personnel package Ellison has to make 2-3 quality grabs for positive yardage,

Secondly, Cody Latimer has size and decent speed. The Giants need to look to expose the Boys 20-30 yards down the field with Latimer. A couple of completions will pull LB's and safeties back some and open up the middle for Engram and the swing passes for Barkley.

Latimer has 2 catches over 20 yards in his 5 year career. If he shows up Sunday and exposes the Cowboys deep, that will be a revelation.
This season is about a few things for me
GiantsFan84 : 9/6/2019 9:39 pm : link
First it's about Jones and the young kids playing and improving and staying healthy. I honestly don't care if they have a bad record this year.

Second, it's about seeing if Shurmur improves his game and time management skills.
I see the Giants getting swamped by the Cowboys (35-17 or worse)
GeofromNJ : 9/6/2019 9:40 pm : link
I wish I could be as optimistic as Dottino and Carl Banks who think the Giants can win this game and possibly win 9-10 games and compete for a playoff spot, but I just don't think they have enough speed and skill on offense and defense to compete with the better teams. I think it's going to be a long season and I am not going to like it one bit.
If we block like we should we can win
jmalls23 : 9/7/2019 12:35 am : link
We paid Eli 23mm. We should win games
On Inside the NfL, they all picked against the Giants
jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 9/7/2019 7:43 am : link
That would be Phis Simms, Ray Lewis, and Brandon Marshall. The three of them all also picked the bears to beat the Packers, so give their picks all the credibility that they are worth.
Game
stretch234 : 9/7/2019 8:12 am : link
It would be nice if the Giants actually get the lead. Every year in Dallas seems like they are behind after the first or second drive.

I move Barkley in motion a bunch and get The TE involved early and often. LBís, even as good as their donít like to run and chase they want to attack. Take the attack to them.

Adequate OL blocking in the run game is paramount, especially the inside when the offense is in the short yardage to keep drives alive

Get off the field on 3rd down

I see this game 1 of 2 ways. Giants are out of it before halftime being down 2 TDS with 0-3 points or this game is tied late and is won by late FG

I hope they win, I think they can win, I would like to believe they will win. I donít expect them to win
Hopefully the Oline
Simms11 : 9/7/2019 8:40 am : link
looks the part and gives Eli time, as well as opening holes for SBark. I do think that DJ would probably be a tougher guy to defend with his mobility, but itís still the Eli show.
Week 1 is so fun
Dankbeerman : 9/7/2019 1:20 pm : link
The eternal optmist in me has yet to be punched in the mouth.

I feel we will be in a position to win this game and need a big stop and a drive late.

wether we can get either or both will tell us a lot about the team for the year.

Lets go Blue!

Outside runs will need to be more based on generating flow in the opposite direction and using their speed against them. Misdirections and counters that are well timed will be key. Saquon up the middle with our improved interior will also be key. Not having Tate stinks but we will really find out if we the lower tier WRs can still be effective like they were late last year in key spots. Also Engram may be a key factor too.
