Enough with the predictions and all this nonsense that the season could be over if we lose...let's talk positive here and name some things we are excited about for the upcoming season. Here are a few of mine:
1. We added some real good talent on defense in the draft. Someone asked recently if Lawrence could replace Snacks...are you kidding me?! Lawrence was arguably one of the more dominant DL in college football throughout his tenure at Clemson, I'm pumped to see him up front. Baker is another, he's got some swag and could be what the doctor ordered at corner for us. We need a dude who is gonna set the tone on the outside.
2. A functional (maybe even good?) god damn offensive line. Finally we get to see what this offense looks like with an above average OL. At least on paper, we should be able to sustain some drives and hold our three and outs to a minimum. Field position absolutely killed us last year. It felt like if we started at our own 15 or 20, that we would just have zero chance to get something going. Now, it appears these guys are ready to kick some ass up front. So let's fucking go.
3. Shurmur 2nd season as head coach/playcaller. The playcalling down the stretch last season was actually pretty great. I felt like even though it was a tough year for everyone, Shurmur evolved as a caller as the year went on, and our offense was actually really solid despite a putrid OL. Let's see if Shurmur can correct some of the game management shit that came up a few times. I'm excited to see how he's grown as a HC in year 2.
4. Carter/Golden/X-man off the edge. We really need to get some damn pressure from the edge rushers. Excited to see Carter in year 2, a healthy Golden, and any production we can get from the X-man will be positive.
Have at it...
I'm excited to watch our young DL and Secondary develop. Lots of talent there and should be very good once they take their lumps and figure it out.
Haha. Also, I'm excited for Eli to prove he can still play in this league. If Rivers and Ben can play, why can't Eli?
Lastly, I'm excited for the young CB's. Baker, Ballentine, Love, Peppers, and eventually (fingers crossed) Beal.
Our defense makes me nervous
3. Always enjoy watching Eli play.
4. Possible Daniel Jones appearance at some point later in the year.
1. Excited that our offense is going to be top ten in the league and balanced.
2. Our defense though young, seems talented and they are gonna defend every inch with great pride. Some nice veteran leadership and a big bounce back from Jenkins.
3. No more player and mom interviews with Jossina Anderson.
4. Shurmur establishing himself as a good Head Coach who wins this year. Last chance coach. Storied franchise, storied Division, good family ownership and a GM who is hell bent on making the Giants tough again. Doesn't get any better PS.
I am pumped to see Barkley play this year and hopeful of the secondary especially Baker who I really wanted pre-draft.
Not a fan of the safeties, Peppers need to prove he can play the position and not continue to bite and play action or double moves.
Hopefully they are able to get pressure other wise it will be a very long season.
Finally, it dawned on me that the giants don’t have as many bad danger zone type players anymore. Average and flawed is one thing, we have those but not as many sore spots. That’s really what did us in the last few years, or longer...
Watching Jones, Barkley, Engram, and Shepard develop together is going to be fun.
Holy crap, can you imagine Saquon behind Dallas oline or 2008 Giants oline, jetting into a gaping hole with a full head of steam, instead of facing a jailbreak in the backfield every play???
If cowboys anticipate a SB wheel route, that should be an "easy" 1 on 1 go route to a Latimer.
That and the fact that Eli always plays best with a chip on his shoulder, and I would say this year of all years he has the biggest chip on his shoulder than he's had in a long time. Even last year he didn't really have that chip because so many people were defending him following the 2017 "bench-gate". This year he absolutely has that chip. A lot of people saying he's done, saying the Giants are better off without him and his cap hit, a lot of people already saying his 22 year old future successor is better than him! I say Eli comes out swingin' this year.
The youth on defense at every level has me intrigued. I can't wait to watch them develop and get better.
I think we are better than the pundits think. It's gonna be a fun year. Go Big Blue!
