Which rookie would you prefer:

1. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (PHI)
2. Terry McLaurin (WAS)
3. Trey Quinn (WAS)
4. KeeSean Johnson (ARI)
5. Hunter Renfrow (OAK)
6. Preston Williams (MIA)
7. AJ Brown (TEN)

All WR's

and one RB
8. Benny Snell (PIT)

or let me know about others you think might be a FA. I have omitted many rookies because they're already drafted.

I'm looking for the one who has the best chance to contribute this year.

Some people have raved about Trey Quinn in WAS - expect him to be the go-to in the slot from day 1 - the Crowder role.

I've also heard people rave about J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in PHI.

not a keeper league, so really only concerned with this year.
Hunter Renfroe

With Brown suspended he is the new #2.

Brown is not suspended anymore.
I liked Renfrow
pjcas18 : 9/6/2019 4:04 pm : link
but not so much with AB un-suspended.

I think he's more of an injury replacement 2020 contributor.

but with rookies so hard to know.
Preston Williams
Big Rick in FL : 9/6/2019 4:04 pm : link
Pretty sure he's gonna be a starter for Miami and Fitz loves to throw deep. Was Miami's best receiver throughout the summer.

Miles Boykin is not available in said league?

He is available. Haven't heard much about him.

He looks buried on the Ravens depth chart (for week 1 at least). 5/6 WR. Usually means maybe in jeopardy of not being active.

Do you expect him to eventually rise?
Off topic
LawrenceTaylor56 : 9/6/2019 4:14 pm : link
is there any word on the status of Melvin Gordon? I got him in the late rounds, hoping his holdout would be resolved before the season started.
I have heard
pjcas18 : 9/6/2019 4:19 pm : link
nothing new on Gordon.

It doesn't seem like it will be resolved any time soon.

If I had to guess I'd say he's slightly smarter than Le'Veon Bell and reports week 10.

he's been getting a TON of love from a fantasy analyst that I find to be one of the best around for both football and baseball (Vlad Sedler).

I think there was also a poll of Ravens players about who was going to shock people this year and almost every one of them said Boykin.

Don't take my word for it, but I'd personally rather take a flier on him than the other guys you listed.
My main concern
pjcas18 : 9/6/2019 4:33 pm : link
with a Ravens rookie WR is they had the 3rd lowest pass play percentage in the league - and added a legit RB in Ingram and a touted rookie in Hill.

I just don't know if they will pass enough to get a rookie involved.

Someone like the Eagles for example, passed almost 10 percent more than the Ravens.

That's around 100 more pass plays per year or around 5 per week. It makes a difference I think.

Also, not technically a rookie. He's 27 years old and has battled through several years of addiction/issues.

though I think you can count him - other than he's drafted.
Should
pjcas18 : 9/6/2019 4:41 pm : link
also add Deebo Samuel.

49ers injury report came out with Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor out.

I think Deebo could play some this week.
That list is a complete crap shoot
ChaChing : 9/6/2019 4:44 pm : link
Whatever reasons people might have (save something bigger like an AB suspension or comparing guys in an awful vs great O or injury of course), it's total hit or miss

I get it tho, I sit here debating each pickup just the same, but IMO from the prior thread - DSamuel, Hardman, DK Metcalf, maybe CSamuel - best options outside of higher floor, low upsides like John Brown, Agholor, Sanu, Humphries. A few others Marquis Brown (or Boykin) or AWilson. Agreed Fitz will throw, but which WR? Add DParker too. TreQuan Smith? Demaryius Thomas? Zay Jones (had an oddly high number of RZ tgts 17 last yr)? Real slim pickins and IMO no legit reasoning, just gotta choose one if you got the space or need and cross the fingers
So I didn’t end up making the Antonio Brown for
eric2425ny : 9/6/2019 4:47 pm : link
Kenny Golladay trade last night. However, the guy is now offering me Chris Carson and Golladay for AB and Josh Jacobs. It’s a 12 man PPR league and my other RB’s are Barkley and Chubb and my other WR’s are Boyd, Robby Anderson, Tyrell Williams, and Golden Tate.

Would you make this trade? Carson scares me because there’s always the fear he gets nicked up and Penny shines in his absence. But Jacobs is a rookie who hasn’t played a down in the NFL and Brown is clearly a head case.

I think when you break down that 5 pass plays per week into individual target-getters, it starts to border on immaterial, but I do get the overall gist.

I guess it depends on what role in your roster it is. If it's a super deep league where even some questionable players get into starting lineups regularly, I could see why you want the safety.

For me, I'm scooping up Boykin in spots where I have depth bench spots that I don't need to rely on early, because it seems like the stock could rise sharply/quickly
of course it's a crapshoot
pjcas18 : 9/6/2019 4:49 pm : link
there are players every year not expected to produce, but do.

whether it's a Kupp, Golladay, Kittle, whoever (from the 2017 class), i don't mind stashing a guy for a few weeks if there is a reason they may pan out.

I'm not looking for guarantees [insert tommy boy reference] I'm looking for lottery tickets, but with some logic behind them.
I’ve also heard good things about
eric2425ny : 9/6/2019 4:51 pm : link
Boykin.
W/ AB not getting suspended
ChaChing : 9/6/2019 4:53 pm : link
tho of course it's a risk, you still want to trade him?

IMO the RBs are a wash for the reasons you said. Golladay has huge potential, but does he have the same potential as AB in an O that's to be more run focused than prior yrs? Of course will AB play 16, and will he produce in Oak as he did in Pit?

I probably stay w/ AB...
so if you have brown are you plsying him?
nygiants16 : 9/6/2019 5:03 pm : link
for me he would be my flex

I drafted Smokey & Deebo lol

Your List - I like these guys to produce:
1. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (PHI) - looks really talented. If any WR's get hurt, he'll put up points
4. KeeSean Johnson (ARI) - was getting good news regularly in camp

2 non-rookies that are prob FA's:
Josh Reynolds WR LAR - had him last year, if any WR's get hurt, he'll put up points
Rishard Higgins WR CLE - has connection w/Baker & is OBJ insurance

my WR Watchlist: (random order)
D. Thomas NE
J. Meyers NE
K. Coutee HOU
K. Stills HOU
J. Kumerow GB
T. Benjamin LAC
J. Wims CHI
R. Ridley CHI
R. Foster BUF
DJ Chark JAX
C. Conley JAX (has Foles connection from KC)
T. Patrick DEN
K. Kirkwood N.O.
D. Byrd ARI
P. Campbell IND

TE
thinking about Herndon & Ben Watson coming off susp. (maybe)
Right...and I'm saying I do the same
ChaChing : 9/6/2019 5:08 pm : link
And yet after looking into it - which logic to follow?

DSamuel given a good QB, pass O and an unclear #1 WR? Tho he's behind a bunch of injured guys?

CSamuel who has a clear #2 role w/ a decent QB, but run heavy O?

Metcalf in a run heavy O, coming off a minor injury?

And those are clearer than Brown or Boykin in Bal's O? Which Mia WR? Or Ind? Which one of all those? You could research and follow logic to no end or just blindly choose. W/ mostly WR 3-4-5s / the names we've mentioned, it's about the same result
That's just the conclusion I've come to
ChaChing : 9/6/2019 5:10 pm : link
with these names as I've been looking through them

Almost definitely. Why wouldn't you? I mean, I suppose it depends on the team, but mostly he's a WR1 / top 10 min. Flex would mostly be a no brainer (I'm assuming you're WR heavy so you wouldn't have an RB to consider over AB...)

Yes, obviously, any logic used to select someone may not result in the desired outcome.

Curtis Samuel was drafted in my league and isn't in the mold I'm looking for, but I do expect a good year from him.

My logic for rookies is about opportunities.

I just want to look for guys who have a legit chance to see snaps. And then IMO the way rookies work is they'll get a couple chances and if they capitalize then they'll get more.

A few years ago I won a title in part because Tyreek Hill came out of nowhere (to many) and lit up the fantasy football world (for an undrafted FFL player) - especially because we get return yards and TD credit.

So, because of that experience I'd like to try and strike lightning and get Tyreek Hill before he becomes Tyreek Hill and I have to outbid people on FAAB to get him.
of the people the OP mentioned
GiantsFan84 : 9/6/2019 9:42 pm : link
Preston Williams is the one I'd want followed by KeeShon. I think Williams has the chance to be their number 1 target at some point this season.
Boykin
GiantsFan84 : 9/6/2019 9:43 pm : link
the problem with Boykin is they just don't throw that often. He will be touchdown dependent. Miami is going to stink and be throwing all game.

He's soft as butter, and the Ravens have another rookie WR they burned a first round pick on in Hollywood Brown. Boykin is a great athlete, but not a football player. Perhaps he gets there, but it is highly unlikely to be this year.

Further, the Ravens are rarely going to throw the ball, and Jackson isn't a good thrower of the football.

A flier on any WR on the Ravens is ill-advised, I wouldn't even want a starter, much less a rookie at the end of the bench.
