AB is going to get some of those guarantees. I would bet money on it. A team can't just unilaterally decide a player is in breach and pull guarantees. The world doesnt work that way. I bet the Raiders have a number in mind to buy out the contract. Maybe it doesnt get to court, but AB will play for someone else and he will be paid by the Raiders, in part, to do so.

AB gets nothing you troll just go away. He got like $600k in his signing bonus. The rest is voided now. No stop ruining this place with your troll dupeness.

i'm a troll because i think AB will get money from the raiders? That's a stretch. The contract is not voided until a court, jury or mediator says so. It's not voided because the raiders say so. It might eventually be voided. I am not a troll for pointing that out.

And another thing. This game you play where you keep referring to me as some person's dupe. yea... you are not good at that game.

True.

not true.. that's not how contract law works. i don't know what world you live in where an employer can unilaterally tear up a contract and not pay guarantees to someone who has the financial resources to challenge it.

You have no clue what you are talking about. He wanted to be released, he caused multiple problems at practice and with the GM. He pissed away his guarantees. Deal with it, "FranchiseQB."
I thought there was language in his contract regarding the fact that
PatersonPlank : 9/7/2019 1:15 pm : link
if he got fined then his money would no longer be guaranteed (I read something along those lines)?

Not an expert, but I don't think the Raiders are just "tearing up the contract". I think (as prescribed in CBA) the guarantees in the contract void if the player is fined. So this is already prescribed in a governing agreement. Of course all of this can be challenged in court.

we don't know what his contract says.

PFT did get a copy of his contract and they were the ones who reported that his "signing bonus" was actually an attendance bonus and that he didn't get a dime from the Raiders.

Lawsuit isn't out of the question, but AB did Raiders a favor in that regard by asking for release from contract rather than seeking to have contract enforced to his benefit.
'It's not voided because the raiders say so'...
Torrag : 9/7/2019 1:29 pm : link
It's voided by the contract he himself signed. The voiding of guarantees was triggered when he reached the threshold level of fines. Is anyone seriously suggesting the fines were invalid or unwarranted under the current CBA rules?

Of course he can sue but the CBA and his contract set the parameters. He will lose.

AcesUp : 9/7/2019 1:35 pm : link
They have to prove that AB displayed conduct detrimental to the team. Beyond the shit that AB willingly put out in the world himself, those Hard Knocks cameras were rolling non-stop during camp. We got the watered down propaganda on HBO but I'm sure those cameras caught some things that would help the Raiders case.

He won’t need to sue at least at first. The union will file a grievance. The Raiders have to prove conduct detrimental to the team which means a documented track record of incidents deemed fitting for tearing up $30M in guarantees. Of course, it seems like that will be easy but when exactly they began documenting the incidents and how an arbitrator will rule based on whether or not those incidents are considered enough to void the money isn’t black and white.

On the flip side, we now know that Brown records his phone calls. We know Gruden has undermined Mayock before and he's not the brightest bulb clearly. Would it be surprising at all if Brown recorded him saying something that they later went back on like the latest fines?

Brown has been a warrior on the field and has put up unbelievable numbers. He didn't suddenly lose his mind. Maybe he's not 100% physically, maybe he's afraid he won't live up to the contract, maybe Mayock is an total asshole, maybe promises were made to him that have gone unfulfilled, maybe his family hated Oakland, maybe he got out there and decided the team was a disorganized mess. We don't know.

Fans of shitty teams are all about "good character" and that amazing locker room experience. At least they have something good to say as their team takes a shellacking. It may shock you to know that some of the greatest New York teams of all time had assholes in the locker room.

Not an expert, but I don't think the Raiders are just "tearing up the contract". I think (as prescribed in CBA) the guarantees in the contract void if the player is fined. So this is already prescribed in a governing agreement. Of course all of this can be challenged in court.

This is pretty spot on.

From ESPN:

The Raiders fined Brown $215,073.53 for conduct detrimental to the team, league sources told Schefter on Saturday.

By fining Brown, the Raiders voided the $29.125 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal, sources told Schefter.

In addition, the Raiders sent Brown a letter stating that he no longer will be entitled to termination pay, sources told Schefter. As a result, Brown would have been playing on a week-to-week basis with both his guaranteed money voided and lack of termination pay.

Raiders might have done the right thing, but they gave up a 3rd and a 5th pick for this idiot. They ain't getting those back. Well done, Pittsburgh.

Don't forget a year earlier they gave Pittsburgh a 3rd rounder for Martavis Bryant. Gruden is a total disaster.

I agree he's been getting progressively worse in his behavior for a long time now.

The rest of your post is akin to apologist drivel though TBH.
AB will probably be on his best behavior

Brown is clearly off and has been dating back to last season (as far as we know). With that being said, the Raiders voted Vontaze Burflict team captain and signed Richie Incognito in the offseason. To assume they have no hand in this and give them the benefit of the doubt is laughable.
'and give them the benefit of the doubt is laughable.'

Give them the benefit of the doubt for what? Oakland has always been a haven for troubled players. That is true going back to Al Davis and they should be applauded for it. That said not every player is either smart or controlled enough to get their act together and take advantage of the opportunity.

So far Incogniti and Burfict have and Brown didn't. They are each personally responsible for their own actions. The Raiders have responded accordingly.

With everything that just went down with odell and watching this fuckstick go thermonuclear with the raiders you'd sign him? LOL people just never learn.

Not only that but blame the giants for not kicking the tires. I actually would investigate it but he’s beyond diva crazy at this point.
