NFT: Yanks Talk September 7th

JPinstripes : 9/7/2019 2:17 pm
Severino may make one additional rehab start. Severino looked and felt good yesterday, topping out at 97.

Betances probably 2 more rehab starts. Betances is sitting 93 and thinks he needs a few more rehab starts but feels good.

Stanton facing live pitching again today, trying to ramp him up quickly...

Hicks has been slowed down in his rehab process. Had another MRI, did not feel right... Season could be in jeopardy according to MM.

And of extended NYY interest

Michael Pineda suspended 60 days by MLB

Twins starter Michael Pineda has been suspended for 60 games for a drug violation, sources tell ESPN. He originally got an 80-game suspension, but it was reduced to 60 on appeal, as a compelling case was made that a banned diuretic he used was not a masking agent for PEDs.
They still need to ease Sevy in slowly.

Hasn’t played all year. Need him confident for the playoffs. I don’t care about September. We have enough to lock down the east pretty easy. We have an 8.5 game lead on the Rays and 15 over the Sux.

Looking like they've picked up this afternoon right where they left off yesterday: bats are floundering against these call-up rejects on the mound for Boston.

He did go 3 ok innings against the AA Phillies yesterday- and Betances went one inning. They have Sevy up to 55 pitches now. I figure that they can easily let him throw 70-75 next time out.

The AA Yanks advanced to the AA finals with a sweep on the Phillies. With the days off coming up, the Yanks can choose to either let Sevy get that next start in the minors, or bring him to NY and do a bullpen game after his start.

I think the smarter course would be to let him make the AA start- while a playoff game, it isn't the fish bowl NY is. Even with that AA start, he would still have between 2-3 starts left in NY.

Severino and Betance are looking good for returning. How huge is that!

And no game thread? No celebration of Judge's two strikeouts so far. No kudos for EE, Gregorius, Sanchez and the always amazing Gardner?
Happ is pitching

well today.

Also, It's very good to have EE return to this lineup.

Very, in both cases. Nice to see Happ carrying one off sharply, as he is so far.

EE really hits the ball way out there virtually all the time. Judge should learn how to do this.

He was a great pickup by Cashman, no doubt.

is incredible. Nobody could have predicted leading the league in missed games total by the lead leading number of players on the IL, and being where we are today. People would have had that person committed.

Yep. Literally the most injured team in MLB HISTORY, and still the best record in baseball. Incredible. Our ace STILL has not made one single pitch in the regular season yet, too. It's crazy.
I've been critical of Happ, but credit to him:

"J.A. Happ has pitched 15 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings."
What a year for Gardy:

[Sharp] Brett Gardner #FunFact 🚨 Gardner this season: 21 HR, 7 triples, 10 steals. Only other players in AL HISTORY to reach those totals in age-35 season or older? Babe Ruth (1936), Goose Goslin (1936).

Thank God we didn't trade for Cano.

He's been awful. I don't think any Yankees fan wanted him, and it looks like we were all right on that. He's been awful.

Cashman and the skipper deserve big kudos
I know I’m going to get smacked and I don’t care - but I don’t know if Stanton is worth it or the right thing for this push

I guess his presence in the lineup helps everyone but I just hate seeing anyone sit from this group

We need the pitchers back for sure

No reason to worry about which player is left out since Hicks is a serious doubt and as of today NYY have only 4 healthy outfielders in Judge, Gardy, Tauchman, and Frazier - that's way too thin heading into October.

Stanton is actually a "need" return at this point.
