not going to make any judgments about the pass rush no matter what happens in this game because it's the first, and Dallas has a great OL. But it would be nice to generate more pressure.

defense is the proverbial "work in progress." Remember that we spent seven picks on the defense, and didn't draft another offensive player after Jones until Slayton in the fifth.
The slobbering over Peppers after the trade was such a joke. The guy has done jack shit in the NFL but some people were fawning over him as if he were an All Pro.

Very true. But at this point I’m hardly convinced Betcher is some great DC. Prescott sucks and between making sure he’s got zero to worry about not loving his tenure
So maybe the coverage confusion wasn't all Collins?
The confusion? No, but physically Collins couldn't cover
Collins was pretty vocal after the season that the confusion in the secondary caused what looked like a lot of late coverage for him. I don't completely doubt that.
Saquon was a few yards away. How is that fucking grounding?
That is under no circumstance intentional grounding. Saquon was there. If that's grounding, then every screen pass that is thrown away needs to be grounding too.

it's absolutely not grounding. he was trying to throw it to Barkley but was being contacted by a defender. WTF. that is a crazy call.
we had a bad play called. Even on the play before where we thought the defense had 12 men... we snapped the ball and that play was not going anywhere either.
Rolling out Eli (one of the least athletic QBs in the league) is not the most ideal type of play to run. Not to mention the two primary receivers on that side of the field were covered.

Yup. It was blatantly obvious he wasn't grounding at all, he was trying to get the ball to 26.
he had a guy wide open but did not have the athleticism to compose himself and make the throw under pressure
You truly are a fucking moron
Why is he a moron? It's a true statement. Doesn't mean "Eli Sucks". It's the difference right now between the two QBs. Dak faced the same situation and was able to throw it to the wide open seam route.
The Cowboys defense is living near the line of scrimmage. The Giants need to complete a route downfield. Screen and bubbles aren't going to cut it all game.
I guess you don't pay much attention or you have me confused with someone else. I am constantly praising Eli. Look back after our TD on the first drive.
for the grounding and just mot throwing when he had the chance. When you do that fast snap play action you roll and hace to throw right away or you throw it out of bounds. Instead, we get classic Eli. What Jones will eventually bring is the ability to just run in that case.
Eli was so far out of the tackle box, it was ridiculous. Â

You know... I thought that after experiencing a loss in your life that it would possibly help you to maybe be a better person. Realizing that life is short, etc etc
But no.. you continue to be the same miserable person that you were last season.

Why would you use something like this to take a cheap shot on someone on a football message board?

I’m learning to be a much better person, but I call out stupidity when I see it.
We all knew this defense was going to suck. Going into last season we had Snacks, Vernon and Collins and the defense sucked. Do you think the players who replaced those guys are any better? We can't rush the passer and still can't cover. We have one good corner until proven otherwise.
the opposing QBs know EXACTLY where to go with the ball. When we get blitzed, Eli looks lost and holds onto the ball. He doesn't identify his hot read on blitzes, and he lacks the athleticism to extend the play. You need to have one or the other. That is why the Giants struggle on 3rd downs and opposing teams get us in 3rd and long and it's a done deal.
Davis is not a starter on most teams and Hamilton is at best a sub. Willing to be patient but through pre-season and this first quarter it looks like this team will have to win shootouts
Why would you use something like this to take a cheap shot on someone on a football message board?
Really fucked up on your part
Montana.. I am just tired of this guy constantly pulling this shit with me as if he has some type of agenda. No idea why either especially since I really never interacted with him in the past.
I quite honestly held back from saying it the last 5 times he decided to just come after me without provocation. This was the last straw.
I am sure you have never seen me say anything like that before.
This defense game 1 against this offense, was going to be even passable was kidding themselves.
Seriously.. what did most think? Giants defense lacks so much quality players, they are not stacked like the rest of the NFC East teams?! This was expected..
the Giants offensive play calling shows Shurmur is scared? Just looks like real dickless play calling. Run the ball with Barkley more or do the PA at least.
On defense, the players are making too many mistakes. In other words, not good talent there.
Throwing short of the stick when there is hardly pressure. Are we trying to win or just stay healthy and not turn the ball over? We know the defense is green, give them some help.
admit that the defense looks terrible right now but it is still 14 7. sure the have some major issues but this is a game still..jesus some of you jump ship at the first glimmer of trouble
before we start to point at a lack of talent, we need to understand that when you have a lot of new players, communication is going to be a problem.
It will take time before these guys know where they are supposed to be. Unfortunately, the league does not permit the teams to practice as much as they have in the past. Couple that with the fact that we rest a lot of guys in pre-season... and this is what you end up with early in the season.
he drops it off on 3rd and long again...enough of this
Who was open downfield? You don't know. So many fucking retards on this board.
was there immediate pressure? he had plenty of time. On 3rd and 13 a check down should be a last resort or if you have pressure. Let the play develop.
To throw to who exactly? You don't know that anyone was open or even running a real route. Everyone just wants to blame the QB for everything. So far this offensive play calling has been weak cowardly shit, and they have average to below average WRs who can't get open - same story every year but let's just keep piling on Eli because in Madden you can just wing it deep and have success

Or you could tell a ton when a player has a guy dead to rights on 3rd down, near the goal line and makes a completely worthless effort at tackling.
These guys are playing their asses off. At this level, talent wins. Nothing else matters. It is all about ability. The players on defense don't have the ability. It's that simple. If you can't rush the passer, you cannot win in today's NFL.

Agreed. We're playing hard. But we don't have the talent to rush the passer.

got a little dick tease in the opening minutes, but I suspected this Defense would suck. Our only stop has been due to a Dallas mistake. We whiffed bad on a would-be stop on third down. I imagine Dallas will score here. Maybe Eli can engineer a two-minute drive to answer.
I hope he evolves and turns into a great player and but let's remember, he was a third round pick and they don't tend to just turn into studs for us these days.
however, no pass rush and poor coverage = TOP advantage for other team and unless we can get some turnovers, I’d say this game will be over by the 3rd Quarter.
With this four win team pretending to contend is a joke
Ned..I really don't know how playing Jones will change what we are seeing here on defense.
Not saying now, but if we are going to lose and with this defense it sure seems like we are going to lose a lot, it makes a lot more sense to lose with jobes gaining experience then eli
Wasn't he kept because of specials? Never expected to see him on the defense. Baker hurt(Don't know if he can play anyway). Why not Ballantine? At least he will tackle.

Jones will play if...
1. Eli is hurt
2. The season is lost
...and quite honestly, that is the right decision.
At 4:15 today, nobody here was thinking the defense was going to play this poorly today. Not even Shurmur.
were lucky they aren't throwing deep every play. They would have 42 points by now. It seems like they complete it EVERY SINGLE TIME. On offense, our first rush lst rush goes for 60 yards and we want to throw the ball exclusively now. We WON'T run the ball. And Shurmer was pissed about them picking up a flag. He blew it on third and 1 anyway with a STUPID play call. We better make some serious adjustments at half time.
Rather see Davis and Connelly. Ogletree is a notch above trash
Very expensive trash. Everyone's running around high fiving each other for Gettleman's moves but so far they really don't look very encouraging. And this is another year removed from Reese and Ross.
But Dak is on fire. Yea there have been open guys but even when there's not much separation he's dropping them in there perfectly. I know people like to bash him but when he's on he's in.

I recall people last year not liking that trade as it seemed Ogletree wasn’t a fit for a 3-4 defense
from Uani Unga and the like...yet here we are, 300 yes and 21 points in a half. Just gotta hope these young guys in the secondary develop, and go get some pass rushers.
for young talent to develop. I’m no less pissed than anyone else here. The Cowboys “May” be the best team in the NFC vs a bunch of guys playing their first NFL game. What could be expected?
The edge and pass rush would be weak - we traded our best guy from last
Year - but never replaced him. If we knew - you think the rest of the nfl noticed? It is against the best OL - so I’ll wait a bit before I jump - but our biggest need is showing itself early
from Uani Unga and the like...yet here we are, 300 yes and 21 points in a half. Just gotta hope these young guys in the secondary develop, and go get some pass rushers.
Some pass rushers, a linebacker, a safety, a WR, a center...
Pretty obvious that the NFC East is between the Cowboys and the Eagles. Bit concerned that the Redskins got closer to the Eagles than we are managing against Dallas. We talk about Washington being dysfunctional. What does that make us?
down the field, when jones was throwing darts down the field all preseason ? it's obvious he cant throw the ball down the field anymore and that is why everything is within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage
RE: First pass beyond 5 yards in the first half is a hail mary Â

Don't kid yourself, Philly was sleepwalking in the first half of that game, the Redskins are awful.
The fact that we didn’t get into position to attempt Â
A fg just speaks to the shit show we are right now. Between the shitty play calling or shitty qb play I’m not sure whose fault it is but it’s maddening.
Don't be a homer, where was the PI? All the Dallas defenders were turned towards the ball and making a play on it. Our midget WR was somewhere at their ankles.
Just hope it doesn’t take them half the season to get DJ going. The Eli Manning era has been over for a while, unfortunately the only people who don’t know it make decisions for the Giants.
Eli is no longer athletic enough to play the position. He just can't make plays anymore. It takes too long for him to set up and there is not enough arm strength to push the ball down the field. The transition to Jones will occur faster than most think.
Eli is going to have to do better if he wants to keep his job Â
Adds to the decidedly growing realization that he is a losing, loser head coach, just look at his record......no winning seasons as a head nfl coach and in the process of adding another losing season to his record, sad.😔
Is it Shurmur or Eli? I cannot believe how much time was wasted and then to fall 5 yards short of a shot at a FG.It is so incredibly stupid and it just seems hard to believe that it is Eli after watching him engineer last minute drives for years. But the current version of Eli is all about 5-7 yard passes--no matter all the hype from the Giants organization.
last drive. Another wasted position as per usual. Can't win games giving away precious possessions
We knew the defense would bad this year but I’m sick of all the Eli excuses. If your QB can only average 1td per game you don’t have a chance either way.
RE: RE: Eli doesn't throw anything beyond 5 yards anymore Â
to whom do you want him to throw it. The wideouts are terrible. You’ve got Barkley and Engram. At the end of the half, the Cowboys put Jones, their best defender, on Engram. The rest of the wideouts are no trouble.
Our HC trying to challenge a play inside of 2 minutes Â
who can win downfield .
I don't know what you can expect out of Eli
Dallas has four WR's that can win and
a damn good TE .
Barkley with 5 touches .
Dallas is too fast on defense to dink and dunk .
We have to go back to Barkley and get a TD coming
out of the third or were dead meat .
But I was hoping to see some real improvement. Same shit we have seen for a long time here. Three high draft picks on the defensive line and none of them stand out.Very disappointed.
But Eli is a wet rag out there. Underuse of Saquon. Zip to the downfield passing game (not tries even except that hapless Hail Mary). Total wasting away of time between snaps. Unimaginative play calling. Uninspired effort. Who's to blame? Eli does come to mind.
They are working really hard out there. This is the NFL, however. Effort doesn't win games without the talent behind it. They're grossly outmatched against Dallas. That's the facts. Dallas built their team from inside out and it is why their QB looks better than he is. They have also not ignored the LB position and have 3 pro bowl linebackers to go with an excellent secondary and athletic pass rushers. They are stacked from top to bottom on both sides of the ball. There isn't a single defensive player on the Giants who is an impact player. Not only that, it doesn't matter how good your secondary is, if you can't rush the passer (which we cannot do at all, and haven't in years), you cannot win.
Definitely needs some work but the biggest thing I see is Eli still has poor vision (3 and 1 play he had a back side TE flashing open across the middle) and continues his inept play by refusing to challenge the defensive and push the ball down field.
He may know more than Dimes but what good is the knowledge of you can’t do anything with it.
I still don't understand why Eli seldom takes a 5-yard delay-of-game penalty early in the game rather than burn a timeout that can be used later. The Pats ALWAYS save their timeouts until the end of a half -- even if they don't need them then.
And even with two timeouts at the end, we should have used a stop-the-clock play rather than use the first of the timeouts. We needed to move the ball 15-20 yards, and the Cowboys were willing to give us short/underneath plays. By burning the 2nd timeout too soon, we lost the chance to make a mid-range completion in the middle of the field. We really should have been able to kick a FG -- not that it will matter.
then it doesn't matter who is playing quarterback or whether Saquon ever sees the ball. This defense is just awful.
I look at it the opposite. If the defense is awful and we are going to lose anyway, might as well play jones for experience then wasting another year of eli going nowhere
Just not enough talent on either side of the ball. Hamilton is terrible, our linebackers suck, no pass rush. Cowboys have so many weapons on O.
In the other side, our receivers are pedestrian at best, o line average. Not a chance.
I'm honestly not sure what I was thinking being hopeful for this game. We don't have the talent to compete with any good teams this year. Put in Daniel Jones if you want, just lipstick on a pig. We're a couple of years away from being competitive.
Eli and that fucking grounding on 3rd and 1 was absolute amateurish.. That killed us and gave Dallas the ball back with a knife to our momentum..
Shell shocked QB panicked or same ol Eli, whichever it is, I'm inclined to agree. We'd give DJ a pass if that was him being his first start, but not the guy in his 16th season.
DeAndre Baker needs to wake TF up. He is getting abused and Hamilton needs to be cut, he can not make a tackle period
If you expected Baker to look good in his first game I have a bridge I'd like you to buy. The biggest question is, why is Baker lined up against Cooper?
After one of the Giants worst defensive halls in their history most of the post complain about Eli. Only on BBI!
It’s not Eli. It’s that the team isn’t good and they spent the 6th overall on a Qb who has looked good. And the owner, FA and some fans have convinced themselves this is a playoff roster which it is most certainly not
An embarrassment, and they are now becoming a bad franchise, they are clueless and if they don't see that Shurmur is horrible, that tells you everything, this coach will never be any good, and this kid Hamilton playing as bad as he is yet our first round pick is not in is a fucking disgrace. This has gone beyond bearable anymore. This is a clueless bunch. Horrible defense and the coordinator stinks too.

This is the defense that Gettleman has brought in. Except for Jenkins, these are his guys. Let's not lose sight of this while many here are celebrating his selections of Barkley and Jones.
is really poor and the major culprit. Even when they blitz there is no pressure. Offense can't score when Dallas is on these long drives. Is this a Bettcher issue?
Down 14 but they have the ball. Probably need points to make this a game.
should we be burning Jones by throwing him out there with no one to throw to. We need to develop the hell out of a lot of guys this season and draft well next season.
My number one ask is that we don't burn Jones or Barkley in a season we are not armed to conquer.
Hard to say which one of the latter is responsible for not pushing the ball down the field but 5.36 YPA ain't gonna cut it. I'm expecting the defense to struggle but the limpdick O is a little disappointing.
An embarrassment, and they are now becoming a bad franchise, they are clueless and if they don't see that Shurmur is horrible, that tells you everything, this coach will never be any good, and this kid Hamilton playing as bad as he is yet our first round pick is not in is a fucking disgrace. but I guess could be justified by the fact that you didn’t want to go for it there on fourth down with time left on the clock if you don’t conver 2nd and 3rd but the first down play after that timeout was just maybe the most asinine call I have ever seen. To get five yards not in fg position and burn a timeout is literally the dumbest clock management you can have. You have unlimited downs at that point with a timeout to get ten yards and you blow it for five yards and use the To.

Bad choice for the game, but for his development, let him learn by playing against good receivers.
The haters are certain WRs are wide open all over downfield but Eli can’t reach them. That’s as stupid as half a dozen Barkley carries in a half of football.
a big play in this game was the grounding obviously... Â
...but why would the Giants on third and 1, with no one over the center, not elect to just snap and sneak it??? It's right there in front of them...........
Was going to be bad, but it is even worse than we thought. I would be shocked if we win more than 4-5 games this year. Gonna be a long, frustrating season
Odds are getting worse by the day that our days of Championship chances are diminishing quickly. Sweet Jesus.. Stop pretending that Manning is still viable...The last play of the half..So sad.. Yep I hope they have cable up in heaven....By then it might be fun watching my team again.. To End: worse than the Manning thing? Our D is providing blankets, wine, and cheese dishes to Prescott...Fucking awful;
Which we should have known. They have a bunch of guys who have been in the NFL for less than 35 games. Those guys are getting significant snaps too. Lawrence, Hill, Tomlinson, Davis, Carter, Baker, Jabrill, Connelly & Antonio Hamilton.
Another problem is nobody is scared of Eli. He offers no threat to the defense. He's got 102 passing yards on 13 completions with 19 attempts. (Really 18 minus the Hail Mary) Those are pathetic numbers. Not all on him, but I feel he's had time and doesn't even attempt to make anything other then short passes.

I'm probably DGs biggest critic. This falls on him.

Actually, on behalf of the haters, it's that the WRs are awful, and the Giants weirdly don't run the ball.
Young guys will settle down a bit. this team will get better as year wears on. Dallas was a playoff team last year - Giants were not.
Exactly the deck is have stacked against us a BS call
keeps there TD drive alive .
Not having a stud WR is killing us .Just have to come out and score when we get the ball back make it a game
Keith Hamilton just called, he wants his last name back. Â

Who's getting deep for him to attempt to throw to?
just put the rookie in at QB. The defense is going nowhere therefore the team is going nowhere. I can see the point if you have an absolute shit show for an OL.
What I'm seeing from Eli is not good enough. Dak has made some drop in the bucket throws. Eli hasn't even tried one. I'm not asking for a QB switch at halftime. What I'm saying is, this isn't good enough.
Shurmur has put us behind the 8-ball by not running enough in the first half. Now we have to throw and be one-dimensional it's a terrible situation for our team to be in.
Are because that’s what Shumer calls. Shumer also gets pass happy and goes away from the run.
Eli doesn’t play defense. It was a DG choice. Get a pass rusher with the No 6 pick or a QB to replace Eli at some point. If Jones was thrown in now we would see interceptions and fumbles.
We have no pass rush and the secondary is lost. Bethea is a veteran but slow. Baker is a rookie and it shows. Hamilton is useless. Where are Love and Ballantine?
The DL can stop the run but cannot pass rush. The three 3-4 scheme worked in the LT era but not today. Dallas has five blockers blocking three DL men and one edge rusher plus blitzers.
I can get more intelligent conversation with Redskins fans than some of you folks. I'd rather argue with a kindergartner than waste the effort debating this nonsense.

3-4 isn't the problem, its we have shit at LB and no pass rushers. At least they are easier to find in college than 4-3 DE's which once we stopped sticking the cupboards seemed to dry up for us.
That is and was the 2019 season’s highlight, that and being in competition for the 2020 first overall draft pick is all there is, and the Vegas odds of giants winning sb @200 to one is not enough.
...but why would the Giants on third and 1, with no one over the center, not elect to just snap and sneak it??? It's right there in front of them...........
So were the non calls on Eli getting hit in the face and Saquon getting his face mask grabbed.
I can't fathom having a weapon like Barkley and never using him. If that's how he'd be used, why even fucking draft him? What is wrong with this imbecile?
There's almost no point getting out of shape about it. You can quibble about the playcalling on both sides of the ball, but the gap in quality of personnel is stark, and I don't even think Dallas have played more than 80%
It's not Eli's fault that the defense is a total train wreck, but both the Giants and Eli would have been far better off if he were playing elsewhere this season.
I know your comment is sarcastic... but for me you need to play the starters more so they can actually practice in live action. We get so concerned about a potential injury that we basically sacrifice the first 1/4 of the season trying to get players ready once the regular season has started.
Were not even near these guys running through
the secondary like a fucking cow pasture ..
Nothing Belcher is doing is even slowing them down .With the play-calling we have no chance .
RE: This is the worst Giants defense I've ever seen Â
because we are facing the best Oline in football and we don't have anyone rushing the passer that has either the talent or the experience to make the difference.
We didn't match up well and will be better some some more experience by the time we play them again.
Anyone who thought otherwise before the season started was sniffing glue. ZERO pass rush on the defensive side of the ball. We play a 3-4 scheme without ANY 3-4 linebackers. Dak looks good, but mainly because he has all day. You could put ANY QB of any level back there and the result is the same.
Well, Damon Harrison was extended by the Lions through 2021 Â
for about 11 million dollars. We certainly had no use for him, with the caliber of our defense.
Harrison is a key part of Detroit's defensive line as one of the top run-stoppers in the league. He has played in 102 games, starting 95 of them -- including playing in 17 games last season. He has nine sacks and four forced fumbles in his career, but the 350-pound tackle is dominant against the run. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 3 interior defender in the NFL last season and said he had the best run-stop percentage in the NFL (16%) last year.
Fatty for the Dline instead of a pass rusher. And to make things worse you move up lose draft picks and pickup another slow CB who has a lot of confidence?? Lol what a train wreck..
RE: This is the worst Giants defense I've ever seen Â
Peppers is an average player. Bethea is horrendous. Ogletree and the rest of the linebackers are horrendous. Zero pass rushers. Baker a rookie, no depth anywhere.
People always overreact to week 1, but this is more of the same bullshit we've seen for years now. This team is hot garbage.
Making the Bill Sheridan year look good in comparison.
This truly may be the worst defense in the league. And in CFB too.
Miami is worse by a lot. But this looks bottom five easy . And while there is youth and some pass rush issues Betcher seems to be a big part of the issue
Playing 2 deep all game to what? Protect the corners? Why? And then get torched over the middle all game
It’s not just talent the scheming and coaching is awful
I know your comment is sarcastic... but for me you need to play the starters more so they can actually practice in live action. We get so concerned about a potential injury that we basically sacrifice the first 1/4 of the season trying to get players ready once the regular season has started.
Actually in context of today's game I was completely serious. If these guys aren't ready then you should play them in the preseason to get them ready!
The games now count! You have people who are going to question the GM, the head coach, and the DC after this game. Hell look at the thread! People are already questioning it. Wait until the beat writers publish their stuff tomorrow...It's not going to be pretty.
You have to make the right picks and have the right men as coaches to rebuild, this is not a rebuild, this is a lost organization, a flat out bad organization from top to bottom. Look at Ogletree, how bad he is and paying him what we are paying him.
We should draft and focus on offense next offseason
No defense no chance
Pass rush
Safeties
Smh that anyone in management thought
This defense was competitive talent - wise
that play right there is a great example of why the rest of the nation have zero respect for Eli and the Giants. Best RB in the NFL and that's the result.
a good coach that could groom Jones and fix this franchise but the guy is a complete moron. He is a fucking embarrassment to this league. I've never seen a coach completely neglect not only his best player, one of the best players in the league, and a HOF talent. This is absolutely fucking criminal.
Sorry to say I think this is Eli’s fault. It’s fourth down on the ten. Why not try the throw? If it’s in the air they call that PI or Holding. But Eli thought he could slide behind the line and pick up the first down.
to make the case for Jones. Just saying. Only reasonable explanation for not running the best back in football on 4th & short and rolling the slowest QB in the league out.
arrogant without any kind of justification for it.
We have had three short yardage plays we needed to convert, 3rd and one in first half (intentional grounding) and the last two plays, and we don’t get the ball to SB. It’s malpractice
Other times it is to deal with despair. Then you know it's time to move on to whisky. I'm about there after watching this pathetic team, especially the non-tackling twinkies we have out there in the secondary. They're just brushed aside with one arm like toys by the Girls' receivers on their way past them to uncovered Giant territory, which most of it.
Is sniffing out damn near every pass play. They're not getting fooled by PA or misdirection. Barkley needs to get more carries/touches and just quit playing around and at least try to play smashmouth fb and try to control the LOS.
If the quarterback or the receiver of the snap demonstrates no further intention to pass the ball (i.e., hands off or pitches the ball to another player, throws a forward or backward pass, loses possession of the ball by a muff that touches the ground or a fumble, or if he is tackled) the restrictions on the defensive team prohibiting illegal contact, or an illegal cut block, against an eligible receiver will end, and a defensive player is permitted to use his hands, arms, or body to push, pull, or ward off an offensive receiver, pursuant to Rule 12, Section 1, Article 5. If the quarterback leaves the pocket area with the ball in his possession, the restrictions on illegal contact and an illegal cut block both end, but the restriction on defensive holding remains in effect.

Tackling the offensive player still applies too :)

RE: shurmur failed to challenge past interference Â
If they finish with a losing record, they'll likely act as though they thought this would be a rebuilding year all along and therefore not reflective of Shurmur as a coach.

No intention to pass? That has never happened to Eli who never has an intention to run.
I'm not saying ballantine is good but why not bench any of shit playing corners. Why are not running Barkley on short yardage. Why are bootlegging a statue.
I recall Dallas drafting two CBs back to back a few years ago. They were not good that year either. It takes time for these guys to develop. He needs experience.

I agree, however even if Eli was planning on running you still can't tackle a player. Shepard was tackled from behind, at a minimum that is defensive holding
such little effort. It's so easy for them. I hate the Dallas Cowboys, their fans, everything about their franchise more than anything else in the world, but they are superior to the Giants in every way. Their front office is top notch, they are well coached on both sides of the ball and they are winning this division yet again.

Giants had a chance to rebound and were woefully morphed into a bad de team on defense.
Tackling a WR Eli had no where to go and you know what .... he nor Penny the play before should have been in that mess, you give the ball to your best player in that situation. Not using Barkley in either play was beyond bad.
RE: RE: Some of these LBs and DBs are not NFL caliber players Â

Gettleman kept guys like Ogletree and Eli on this team at their respective cap numbers to help the "culture" of the team.
And while the offensive line has been patched together to be an OK starting 5 this year, the Giants are going to have big time offensive line issues again soon. Solder is on the wrong side of 30, Remmers is always injured.
This organization is a complete mess. If Jones is the real deal he'll mask a lot of issues down the road. Woof
I don't think it is the secondary alone - where is the pass rush? Prescott hasn't been touched once. I don't think he has been hurried - never mind touched.

They weren't this bad though
They were pretty bad IIRC. Bad is bad.
Really shocked DeAndre Baker is getting owned so bad Â
Then the coach. This is the team that Gettleman has assembled. Posters here were applauding him for turning over the roster. This is just one game but you have to be a blind man not to see how bad this defense is. These are the players that this GM has brought in. Baker and Lawrence don't look like impact players to me. Maybe in time.

No QB can cover up for this kind of defense. Even Brady would have trouble

Or the waiver wire receivers.
How have our receivers been the problem today? Our issue was Eli making bad decisions and the worst defensive performance we've seen in years.
At least they figured out Tae Davis isn't an NFL LB and have started playing Connolly. Next, let's put Love at FS, and Ballentine at CB, and just throw in the towel on Bethea, Hamilton etc.
I loved Eli, but now he's not adding to my enjoyment of the game at all. I can't bear hearing any more of the "preparing and competing" every week after a loss.
Why even argue who's at fault when we are once again getting our shit pushed in by the hated rival? Who cares?
What pisses me off is that jackass Elliot is looking like a world beater and Saquon can't get a fucking touch.
...and people are talking about Manning. You young guys are entertaining.
because we know we would get torched....so let the young QB get experience. Knowing we had arguably the worst defense in the NFL...doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that.

If Eli is no longer an elite player, WTF is he on the team? We know the D sucks, but so does dumb face.
Team will play better once they get experience on defense. Probably see Jones as soon as the coaches think he is ready. Playing Eli at this point makes no sense.
I don’t get it, but Giants are playing a ton of Zone and that’s why they’re off, but non-the-less, coverage is atrocious and there’s a lot of miscommunication too.
It has nothing to do with next week or the rest of the season. But, this is a blowout in the 4th. What purpose is served by Eli playing? Let Jones get some real game action.
consistently winning team as long as mara owns the team. His decision making in the last 7 years has been terrible and he still doesnt realize hes a big part of the problem
EVERYONE would have been canned in 2007 after the first two games. Anyone who expected a better defensive effort today was dreaming. With the amount of inexperience they are playing, this was the likely result. Too much miscommunication is not good.
Our defense isn't doing squat but this game isn't Eli's loss. I also think we're going to fare better than people think against teams that aren't as deep as Dallas and Philly.
I don’t get it, but Giants are playing a ton of Zone and that’s why they’re off, but non-the-less, coverage is atrocious and there’s a lot of miscommunication too.
we need to do is put Jones in this game. Destroy his mental psyche and let the Cowboys tee off on him? No fucking way. Let Eli get blasted and make the change next week....but not now.
by a division rival. And Davey Gettleman has the nerve to get offended when Francessa calls them losers. Look at this shit show we’re all forced to watch.
...and people are talking about Manning. You young guys are entertaining.
I get your point, but a better O protects this defense a bit more. I love Eli but all he can do is check down and hand off now.
Eli has played fine. This defense is fucking terrible.
Disagree. Jones would have ran for a first down where eli only got 7 yards. Jones also probably could have ran it in for a TD on that 4th by the goaline. Eli hit one nice 43 yarder and has been throwing it short the rest of the game.
of our defensive team members right now? Keystone cop moves aside, this does not help their confidence moving forward. 15 games left.. Shurmer really needs to stop being a nice guy after this shit show.
the anti Eli crowd is getting tiresome. Are you sure you are watching the Giants game? This is 100% on the defense. Poor game plan, inexperienced players, etc. etc. etc. So let's put Jones in and that will correct the defense. Oh and what better way to ruin a rookie qb's career than put him in at a time when one of the best teams in the league is winning handily and will just pin their ears back and be drooling to decapitate the rookie. Perfect example was David Carr. Give me a break.
nothing Eli or anyone can do now. The game is over. The lack of pass rush is what killed us. But Eli's lack of mobility is a problem. He still has the arm, the ability to read defenses, and more than enough accuracy to be successful. But his lack of movement is apparent.
...and people are talking about Manning. You young guys are entertaining.
I get your point, but a better O protects this defense a bit more. I love Eli but all he can do is check down and hand off now.
A betterO? They’re getting royaly F$&Ked by the refs, the play calling is questionable, you give your best player 11 touches into the fourth qtr??
The defense sucks and no offense will make them better!

Very few are suggesting that Jones should go in for an improvement at QB. They're saying that this is garbage time and a perfect opportunity for him to get some experience.
Meanwhile - the offense generated a whopping 10 points thus far. The D has absolutely sucked, but let's not gloss over how poorly the offense has fared today.

Eli has played fine. This defense is fucking terrible.
What game are you watching.
In what world is his play fine. Yes the defense has been horrible. But Eli isn't getting the job done, sure he had few nice plays. But the rest has been lackluster
and because it's going nowhere, Eli shouldn't be on the field. Sorry, thanks for the Superbowls, but as we have a somewhat functional Oline, have Jones take his rookie lumps. Get a high draft pick, get a pass rusher and build the team up.
Are being thrown that have no chance of going for a first down. these are throws that are happening when we absolutely need a first down. It isn't good enough.stop
And he's touched the ball 11 times in 3 quarters...
Genius.
It’s just pathetic, it was like they were afraid to use SB again after the big run. The offense looks like they were in desperation mode from the get-go.

You are right sir ... and I am going to say it again NO PASS RUSH at all.
The Cowboys will have 600 yards when the game is over and I'm reading how Jones will save them... the same crowd, mind you, that went crazy when the kid was selected. But, let's blame Manning because we really don't know how else to vent.

But I wish shurmur could get fined for red zone play calling
Eli was Eli
Nothing better or worse than expected
Defense and non- use of 26 is disappointing
Eli penny on 3/1 is amateurish call
Literally unforgivable
Has anyone seen the TDs Dak has thrown???????????? Â
Is what shurmer is proud of.......but it’s usually a bad omen. They should look at the LSU oc.......and clean house, use the upcoming draft picks to acquire some game changing pass rushers, all new coaching staff, full stop.
RE: Daniel Jones chant will start before kick off next week. Â
You’re down 35-10. What the fuck. Is your arm THAT shot?
Do you know what a check down is and why it happens? You know... when the defense takes away the deeper WRs and leaves you with the check down options?
He forces the ball down field, it gets picked off... and then Eli sucks again right?

they are as a group, slow and don’t get any separation. They don’t get open and none need double teaming. They can be played man up. There is no margin for error with these guys.
This is what it looks like when receivers are bad. The defense compresses the offense

Jones won't save them, no one is suggesting that. But Jones needs experience and since we've already lost and the game is gone, he should be playing.

But not defensive holding in the end zone by tackling the receiver
Wrong no call vs the Boys, but we can hardly blame officiating when their wideouts are running wide open deep downfield and despite rushing 6 the Giants D exerts zero pass rush.
Yes the play calling has been well off the mark, but when your D sucks billiard balls, it's hard to win in this league. Play the kids on D and let them learn on the job.
but why is it that every time we have a free blitzer the opposing QBs are so easily finding the hot read, but for us it is NEVER found. Is it a coverage issue?

Do you think his confidence would be shot because he'd lose a game they're already trailing by nearly 30 points?
I was talking about the idea of starting Jones today... not bringing him in in the 4th QTR.
In fact, if we score no points on this drive, I am fine with bringing him in for the balance of the game.
The truth is that Shurmur wont do that because IF Jones throws one TD pass, it then creates a larger QB controversy. Yeah.. sounds fucked up doesn't it?
a measuring stick after all. They’ve got a LOOONG way to go. If they are unable to handle Buffalo next week, then the Jones era will start sooner rather than later.
but why is it that every time we have a free blitzer the opposing QBs are so easily finding the hot read, but for us it is NEVER found. Is it a coverage issue?
And you think you'll get your answer just because you "watch film"?
Doesn't matter today of course atm just amazing how bad he's been at something that are relatively easier throws
That one to SB, the should have been wheel route he chucked at his leg, the screen a drive or 2 ago w/ SB behind the LOS. Hell even that SB catch right there...
I'm sure I'll still get killed for saying it but it's long been the case
The big question is whether the Giants have the right GM to draft right and manage the cap appropriately and the coach to lead the team out of the wilderness.
I don’t see it.
Both hires where extremely conservative and it’s unclear whether either guys can rebuild this team appropriately. Clearly, DG has thus far build a horrendous defense and Shurmur’s play calling is uninspired.
Yeah yeah defense sucks blah blah blah but if you think Eli has played well or even average today watch some more NFL games and see what a QB who throws the ball down the field and/or can actually move can do

Going to be a long season.
Right now, Barkley should be out of the game and Jones should be in. I don't understand Shurmur's thinking.
You’re out to lunch if you think this game is a reflection of anyone on offense.
How much football have you watched in your life to not comprehend that both the offense and defense can suck in the same game?
Shit, if you'd never watched a game this one alone should have given you that lesson.
Yep exactly, really stupid take by that guy not to blame the offense. Both units stunk today and that's why its 35-10. If it was 35-24 or something like that, then you could make a claim like that
Indeed. If you weren't going to play Barkley when the game was in doubt, don't waste him now. Save him for next week.
I don't like Shurmur's decision making here.
I understand what you are saying and get your point. However, a coach cannot tell his team to play a full four quarters and to never give up... then bench his best player signalling that he has given up.
We have spoken about how players have quit on the team in the 4th qtr in prior years. Remember? We cannot have that poison reoccur.

Since it’s never Eli’s fault why the offense can’t score more WTF is he on the team. Sick of Eli Manning is above criticism shit.
My mind is actually pretty changed on Manning. I thought he was just functional, but he looks pretty ok to good.
Too bad it's going to end like this, on an obviously outmatched team. This team needs a lot of time and help.
The best favor anyone could do Manning would be to trade him to Jax at this point. A contender, with enough on offense for him to produce and a defense capable of holding leads.
Here, he's going to be in the middle of a shitstorm almost entirely not of his doing (he's overpaid relative to his performance, but not much he can do about that).
I'd rather see the guy go and possibly win another one somewhere else than watch what I think is coming, an ugly losing campaign that he won't be able to prevent.
As most about Barkley’s lack of touches. On the 3rd and 4th and short in the red zone yeah that was a bad call not to use him, but in general it seems more like he’s not being used because 1) the offense can’t convert a 3rd and manageable all day and 2) we’ve got dig into a 2 TD deficit hole in the first half.
Just because he’s averaging 10 yards per touch doesn’t mean you give it to him 10 more times and he automatically gets you another 100 yards. If you give it to him every single play the defense starts to catch on, not to mention you’re not going to pick up first downs running the ball on 3rd and medium. Barkley can’t do it all himself and Just giving him the ball another 10 times would not have come anywhere close to winning us this game.
but I really think not having Golden Tate is killing us, our defense can't make a play, and the officiating has been...slanted. I don't think we're as bad as some people are saying, at least on the offense side of the ball.
Indeed. If you weren't going to play Barkley when the game was in doubt, don't waste him now. Save him for next week.

I'm not sure about DG yet. He does seem to draft well.
It's still too premature to declare his picks outside of Barkley will be above average NFL starters, but it seems as though quite a few will be.
He just vacillates too much between "we are good enough to win now" and "this will take time, we're building a winning team" thing.

The buffalo bills scored 17 points with a trash can at Quarterback. Â
Let's get Jones killed because we put him in the middle of a feeding frenzy. How ridiculous.
His time will come but of all games this is not the time. Let's fix one thing at a time. How about a defensive coordinator that can come up with a game plan to cover up some of his team's obvious deficiencies. I saw absolutely no defensive adjustments made at halftime. The poster who identified Jackrabbitt was not being thrown at was exactly right so why is he not covering Cooper and help from the safeties to cover the other wr?
now definitely the time.. The manner in which he operates out of the pocket is sad..Like he has the yips..Only thing he looks comfortable with is firing bullets at receivers 2-5 yards beyond the line of s..or even behind the line of Scrimmage.. At one time he had the ability to move around just a bit and save some plays... but today he just reminded me of an old guy just trying to survive...Sad
The Redskins scored 27 points against Philadelphia. Â
but this has been an absolute joke in terms of calling this game.
Shurmur has been terrible today. If you just take the third and fourth and one plays where Barkley never touched the ball that cost this team points he has to take a hit. There’s a good reason why he’s a career loser
Going to be a long season.
^ this.
Way too many positions on this team seem bereft of talent. It's early yet, and maybe Dallas is a good enough opponent that they make them seem much worse.
But even on paper before the season started, looking at some of the units, not being able to find a credible #1 WR, a pass rusher, relying on guys like Ogletree and Peppers to come up big - you had to be expecting at least some disappointment. This doesn't seem like year 2 of a 3 year rebuild - it seems like something someone else is going to have to rebuild after this is deemed a failure.
Let's hope Jones is as advertised during the preseason otherwise this could be a real fucking disaster.
They are a young secondary and they haven’t played much together. The most important thing they need to address is the pass rush. It should be the top priority next year. It has been going on way to long.
RE: The defense stunk the first two games of 2007 Â
Their rookie just went 22/25 w/ 2 TDs & a pick. Doesn't mean they don't need something as backup depending on who else is back there (Foles has a clavicle so is out for a bit). But 1 game or not they aren't itching for QB help from Eli, esp having to trade atm vs FA after the season
if DJ leads a scoring drive...all the questions this week will about him playing...Shurmer is a mental midget with the media and doesn't want to deal with it
Gotta tidy up the completion percentage and yardage. Â
If that's seriously the reason, fire Shurmur now. You don't make football decisions based on whether reporters might ask you annoying questions or not.

AT this rate we should be able
To draft Chase Young
If Buffalo comes to NY and blows the Giants doors off... it's going to be a loooong year. Worst case scenario: Eli looks effective and Giants score 5 touchdowns, only to be outscored by the Bills, so the season plummets but Eli's job stays secure

This is a soft prevent Defense. Its a perfect spot for Jones.
Is that we weren't even competitive on either side of the ball...
When a Defense only makes 2 stops it's going to completely change the offense's gameplan. they are playing catch-up the whole game which is not what this team is built for

Yep.
I know we're out talented but the coaching has left a hell of a lot to be desired. On both sides of the ball.
The defense was going to be a work in progress but they look terrible. If they can’t get any kind of pass rush this isn’t going to get better anytime soon. The offense isn’t good enough to make up for this bad a defense. And if Shurmur isn’t going to go to his best player on third and one then he might as well resign tomorrow and save them the trouble of having to fire him.

It's not shurmurs decision. It's maras and he doesnt want to be questioned in the media
Eli is A problem. He's not THE problem. The offense could still be pretty decent, but the defense is a dumpster fire.
You could always urinate on a dumpster fire but pissing all over this D, I mean really soaking them down might be fun but they won't get any better that way.
I know it's a stretch, but hoping the defense can figure something out in the next game or two.
The Giants won 19 games the previous 2 years, not 8.
The 2007 Giants and were expected to be a playoff contender and had good players on both sides of the ball. The biggest question mark that team had was Eli.
thinking Eli is as much of a problem as the D are really delusional.
We looked like a competent O at times. We look like a dumpster fire on D
We scored 10 points. That wont win with a good D. Eli with a stupid grounding and trying to run on 4th down and fumbling. there was a guy open in the endzone. He can't throw a 5 yard pass to SB. I dont know what O you are watching

It’s going to be an interesting game. Bills are much better team this year, however, if there was a home game that we should win, it should be next week. My question however will be if our defense can improve and help the team win a agame?
appears to be blocking and protection, all that has spared us are risky Eli decisions on throws and turnovers; otherwise we have not offensive productivity beyond Barkley and you can't run him every play. checkdown and low YPC attempts will get worse if this continues and teams start blitzing packages to get to Eli.
When the defense can’t get off the field. The opposing team’s punter need not dress. And Shurmer doesn’t call Barkley’s number.
Because your QB can’t account for more than 6 points a game. Why couldn’t this game have been a shoot out? Let me guess Eli had no time to throw the ball right?

maybe we don't have the ponies, but Eli really hasn't rallied the troops, and he hasn't for a long time. He's rarely made the O more than the sum of the parts.
Most of the time there was just utter confusion. When they werent confused they played okay. Just some mistakes with penalties and lost schematically. If they get the schemes down, there could be a big improvement. Can be middle of the pack this year.

They were supposed to be in the playoffs in 2006. It was a firestorm of criticism that that team didnt make it.
But with no defense, a weak OL, and no big play receivers, what do people expect.
Weak OL? This is Gettleman's rebuilt OL. If anything, it's the one unit on the team that's comprised entirely of guys that Gettleman wanted and paid good money to get.
If the OL is weak, then there's no reason to have any confidence in Gettleman to rebuild any of this.

There isn’t much talent wise. Unless the kids really get better it won’t change a lot
Eli wasn’t the problem today with the way the defense got beat up but he didn’t help things either. Eli can still be effective if with the running game game is working and he’s getting good protection but he can’t make the big plays or elevate the team the way he did years ago.
Eli is not winning any shootout these days - if things go right, he is Â

I don't think Eli was the problem, but his grounding penalty was a big one and the other failed 4th down conversion was terrible. Same old shit.
Ball awareness. Can’t fumble on that kind of scramble. For the rest of the team, this is a starting point. The one guy that I was disappointed in on defense was Golden. They needed him to be THE pass rusher. He was invisible. Carter had a few nice rushes, but there was nothing consistent.

Except it wasn't grounding because he was outside the tackle and Barkley was in the area. I am willing to bet that has never been called before with the same circumstances
The offensive line played well tonight. Manning was hit on the designed roll-outs that didn't materialize, and otherwise had a completely acceptable pocket.
Barkley wasn't getting crushed in the backfield and had nice help downfield.
This is the offense by design. A lot of quick outs, bubbles, and screens. The best deep threat on the team is the tight end. The best outside WR is a career slot receiver.
Literally no one should be surprised by the offense. This is what it's supposed to be.
Reality I thought 34-17 Dallas
so no too far off after Dallas went up two scores
it was over . I thought Shurmur really called a lousy game
The continued failures on the roll out plays once he got
close he has a limited playbook problem is nobody was
winning downfield he got away from Barkley early .
The defense was a lot worse than I imagined they couldn't
cover anyone Dallas has plenty of weapons and the defense
was overmatched Zeke wasn't even a factor and still moved
the ball with ease .

I agree, they opened up nice holes and it wasn't a jailbreak on Eli. It's on the bottom issues of why we lost today, unusual after the past few years.

Hope not, it’ll be a long season with no pressure. We’ll have to win shootouts and we’re not configured for that.

This defense off the field. Totally busted coverage.
7-7 at the end of 1 pretty good considering the D looks lost
Offense at least looks good. Going to need to score a bunch today to win.
That is what kept it alive
Play fcking man and make a stop
The confusion? No, but physically Collins couldn't cover
Yep exactly why I mute the tv smh

Defense will be the team’s Achilles heel this season. Just no playmakers on that side of the ball.
Im listening to Papa/Banks on the computer and for the first time I can remember, the broadcast is in line with the TV broadcast, no delay.
Yeah Jerry should buy them uni's and pom poms
And Zero pass rush!
That blown coverage was awful. He was so open that Dak nearly missed him.
The slobbering over Peppers after the trade was such a joke. The guy has done jack shit in the NFL but some people were fawning over him as if he were an All Pro.
That's what I was thinking. Where was he?
Not really. Hard to know without knowing the assignments but that looked like Bethea
Very true. But at this point I’m hardly convinced Betcher is some great DC. Prescott sucks and between making sure he’s got zero to worry about not loving his tenure

Collins was pretty vocal after the season that the confusion in the secondary caused what looked like a lot of late coverage for him. I don't completely doubt that.
yeah good pickup. Awesome job by the scouts finding this hidden gem... :)
Offensive game plan looks good.
obvious penalty
what gave you that idea? the screaming?
The ball didn't get back to the LOS.
And the facemask on Barkley was blatant
That is under no circumstance intentional grounding. Saquon was there. If that's grounding, then every screen pass that is thrown away needs to be grounding too.

Agree. Definitely got too cute there.
with the BS TO
Rolling out Eli (one of the least athletic QBs in the league) is not the most ideal type of play to run. Not to mention the two primary receivers on that side of the field were covered.

Yup. It was blatantly obvious he wasn't grounding at all, he was trying to get the ball to 26.

Why is he a moron? It's a true statement. Doesn't mean "Eli Sucks". It's the difference right now between the two QBs. Dak faced the same situation and was able to throw it to the wide open seam route.

Thanks Walt Anderson!! Texan Walt Anderson
the ruling was the throw landed short of the line of scrimmage.
I guess you don't pay much attention or you have me confused with someone else. I am constantly praising Eli. Look back after our TD on the first drive.
I rarely complain about refs but they fucked that one up. Hopefully it'll balance out. Usually does.
Granting time-out
Eli was hit - shouldn't have been grounding
Game's gonna be hard enough - don't need the refs making it more difficult
BTW, Eli's bleeding under his left eye - came on no call on # 90's hands to his face
(2) Eli grounding the ball? Watch the replay. Van Der Esch hit his upper arm as he threw.
When playing the Cowgirls, it never surprises me that fate is the hunter. The refs are always favoring Dallas. They simply need the opportunity.
This exactly.

I think the point is no one is open. That might because the Giants have basically nothing at WR.
It will take time before these guys know where they are supposed to be. Unfortunately, the league does not permit the teams to practice as much as they have in the past. Couple that with the fact that we rest a lot of guys in pre-season... and this is what you end up with early in the season.

At least getting Jones on the field will keep me watching

Or you could tell a ton when a player has a guy dead to rights on 3rd down, near the goal line and makes a completely worthless effort at tackling.

Yeah I knew it would not be good. But holy SHIT.
Good ?
There it is
LOL!!!
Defense is giving the offense a break
He gets long breathers when we have the ball too!
I tried for a little while. This is pretty much what I expected, though.
Ned..I really don't know how playing Jones will change what we are seeing here on defense.
we might as well stunt and blitz because playing straight up D is never going to work with these guys.
Quote:
def getting a big time breather, lol

He has nobody worth a shit to blitz. Bunch of dogs.
You can't blame him for this mess. No pass rushers against a team with a strong OL.
Dallas might as well start running out the clock.
Wasting away?? For two quarters?
Fucking asswipes out in full force.
I hope he evolves and turns into a great player and but let's remember, he was a third round pick and they don't tend to just turn into studs for us these days.
He also had Chandler Jones. A stud pass rusher.

Connelly has gotten home twice. Missed Dak once, forced the hold on another.

Not enough resources. Let's be honest it was Jones or Allen. They went with the QB. No enough resources.

Not saying now, but if we are going to lose and with this defense it sure seems like we are going to lose a lot, it makes a lot more sense to lose with jobes gaining experience then eli
Got a shot!
Saw that too, unfortunately the refs ignored it
Expensive trash! We may just extend him if we're not careful.
They’ve had 2 possessions. This happens every time we play DAL which is part of the reason we never beat them.
Missed calls, shurmur not using Saquon, eli checkdown, and a defense that has no answers for Dak
Cut Eli?
They are pretty much running everything at him. He’s been horrendous

Jones will play if...
1. Eli is hurt
2. The season is lost
...and quite honestly, that is the right decision.
At 4:15 today, nobody here was thinking the defense was going to play this poorly today. Not even Shurmur.
What's the point in wearing him out on this mediocre team?
Beautiful throw by Prescott. They went right after Baker.
It’s gonna be a long season.

Is hand ball to Barkley. We don't do this. This upsets me. I may snap.

Might be true, but that's not Shurmur's thinking he actually wants to win this game.
Pfft. Only took him two quarters to smash that puny record.

one on one with a rookie corner because we can't generate any pass rush is on the general manager.
Very expensive trash. Everyone's running around high fiving each other for Gettleman's moves but so far they really don't look very encouraging. And this is another year removed from Reese and Ross.
They should just keep throwing over the top as there is no safety help.
BTW, really, really hate making Dak look like Joe Montana
This team will be out of it soon enough.
He hesitated a little and it was enough for Cooper. I think Baker will be fine given experience.

I recall people last year not liking that trade as it seemed Ogletree wasn’t a fit for a 3-4 defense
This ^
It'll be done by end of month lol
It’s gonna be a long season.
Quite possibly.
you actually believe that? even if thats the casewe will play significantly better offenses
Lol
its maddening and needs to stop
1. We always look like shit in week 1
2. I had this down on the calendar as a loss anyway.
Probably Eli
Can’t set up for a long ball. Dallas coming now
Shit drive. 1:13 seconds, 2 to and only 25 yes of offense
Year - but never replaced him. If we knew - you think the rest of the nfl noticed? It is against the best OL - so I’ll wait a bit before I jump - but our biggest need is showing itself early
Some pass rushers, a linebacker, a safety, a WR, a center...
Who am I kidding?
(Beer me wife.)
Also why are we not running Barkley
At least it shows that Eli can throw over 50 yds, for those who believe he cant
only 5 carries for barkley is a damn disgrace
Eh. No biggie.
Halftime.
Don't kid yourself, Philly was sleepwalking in the first half of that game, the Redskins are awful.
They never call PI on those Hail Marys. Especially not going to give it to a team who is getting the shit beat out of them.
And there's a typical micky shit post
Don't be a homer, where was the PI? All the Dallas defenders were turned towards the ball and making a play on it. Our midget WR was somewhere at their ankles.
Also why are we not running Barkley
We didnt use him enough when we had the ball. Shurmur kept calling pass plays. Also why not split him wide on that last drive

We knew the defense would bad this year but I’m sick of all the Eli excuses. If your QB can only average 1td per game you don’t have a chance either way.

pass rush is non-existent
Game turned on that timeout that was granted when Dallas lined up with 12 guys on 3rd and 1.
This team is not built to play from behind. They NEED to score a TD to start off the 2nd half and hope for a couple of lucky breaks on defense.

I don't know what you can expect out of Eli
Dallas has four WR's that can win and
a damn good TE .
Barkley with 5 touches .
Dallas is too fast on defense to dink and dunk .
We have to go back to Barkley and get a TD coming
out of the third or were dead meat .

He may know more than Dimes but what good is the knowledge of you can’t do anything with it.
Our fanbase has seriously surpassed jets fanbase in stupidity
And even with two timeouts at the end, we should have used a stop-the-clock play rather than use the first of the timeouts. We needed to move the ball 15-20 yards, and the Cowboys were willing to give us short/underneath plays. By burning the 2nd timeout too soon, we lost the chance to make a mid-range completion in the middle of the field. We really should have been able to kick a FG -- not that it will matter.
Might explain why he can't pick off a pass. His hands must be raw at this point.
I don't think people really care what eli does. But the team and defense isn't good. Jones should be in there developing this year.

I second this
In the other side, our receivers are pedestrian at best, o line average. Not a chance.
I'm honestly not sure what I was thinking being hopeful for this game. We don't have the talent to compete with any good teams this year. Put in Daniel Jones if you want, just lipstick on a pig. We're a couple of years away from being competitive.
On the flip side Prescott is playing well.
Shell shocked QB panicked or same ol Eli, whichever it is, I'm inclined to agree. We'd give DJ a pass if that was him being his first start, but not the guy in his 16th season.
O can move the ball but they aren't good enough to win a game on their own. We miss Odell in the 2 minute offense.
Hate to say it, but maybe it's time to move on from Eli.
He needs Vince Vaughn to come by with some Cheetos and some plays to the wide receivers.
Actually alot of people have criticized or acknowledged the defense shortcomings. It's just that last drive is what ended the half
Dak's mobility hasn't been needed. Looks like all you need is a stud OL.
i'm laughing out loud at this. oh man.
If you expected Baker to look good in his first game I have a bridge I'd like you to buy. The biggest question is, why is Baker lined up against Cooper?
It’s not Eli. It’s that the team isn’t good and they spent the 6th overall on a Qb who has looked good. And the owner, FA and some fans have convinced themselves this is a playoff roster which it is most certainly not
But the Giants offense was slinging it in that meaningless week 17 game.

It is a playoff roster. For the other team.
Down 14 but they have the ball. Probably need points to make this a game.
Huh, that was totally Reese's fault because reasons.
My number one ask is that we don't burn Jones or Barkley in a season we are not armed to conquer.
Our 1st round pick was beaten on the last TD.

Bad choice for the game, but for his development, let him learn by playing against good receivers.
How about Conrad Hamilton?
This is pretty funny. Needed a laugh.
Becoming? LOL.

Who's getting deep for him to attempt to throw to?
Lol - ( New Window )
Shurmur has put us behind the 8-ball by not running enough in the first half. Now we have to throw and be one-dimensional it's a terrible situation for our team to be in.
The good thing is that the offense looks more competent than last year.
You need to make a deal with the devil first
We have no idea if our coaches are even any good?
Our only hope is that these young kids improve as the season progresses.
Agree

It’s incredible to me! You’d think by now after 16 years that they’d be looking to kind of look for those things against him.
Can't wait, you throw it on the cut. Waiting just means all those other defenders in the middle come into play. Shepard has to catch that.
Probably in this game
That ball was NOT knocked away, it was right in his hands
It wasn't knocked away, it hit him in the hands
They are 3-4-5 WRs. Not 1-2 WRs. What should we expect
I don’t know. I think it’s been pretty good against a pretty stout D.
Why is pointing out obvious penalties that are not called or penalties that are called when they shouldn't equate to being "sore losers"?
That's just dumb on multiple levels
Miami. (Second worst).
Looks like DG needs to cluster draft another secondary. Fuckin' Bettcher Boys.
Take the rose color glasses off it going to be another ugly season
It's not Eli's fault that the defense is a total train wreck, but both the Giants and Eli would have been far better off if he were playing elsewhere this season.
But good lord, this defense is embarrassing.
I was just thinking the same thing....
Should have trade for Clowney.
Drafted 4 dbs
Yep. Looking good.
I know your comment is sarcastic... but for me you need to play the starters more so they can actually practice in live action. We get so concerned about a potential injury that we basically sacrifice the first 1/4 of the season trying to get players ready once the regular season has started.
PATHETIC
Guys shouldn’t be running that wide open.
Yes, the D is definitely ELi's fault
he is not an elite coach....sad but true
This truly may be the worst defense in the league. And in CFB too.
We don’t know what the play call was or It could’ve been miscommunication with young secondary.
the secondary like a fucking cow pasture ..
Nothing Belcher is doing is even slowing them down .With the play-calling we have no chance .
Greg... it does look really bad today, but we set bad defense records a few years ago.
Dallas may set NFL record, before the start of the 4th quarter.
Guys shouldn’t be running that wide open.
Is Betcher tring to lose?
We didn't match up well and will be better some some more experience by the time we play them again.
This can’t be what he’s calling.
Can he play D too?
I agree peppers isn’t showing much
The worst I've ever seen was when Eli threw 6 TDs...and the Giants lost.
I had the same feeling. Guess that ain't gonna' happen.

Stop making sense. You are going to be exhausted by the end of the game.
Tackle of WR that the THREW THE FLAG FOR...no mention? DAL ball. NYG isn't good but this is total bullshit
The flag was thrown PI against Shepard.
Eh. Whatever.
Sorry to say I think this is Eli’s fault. It’s fourth down on the ten. Why not try the throw? If it’s in the air they call that PI or Holding. But Eli thought he could slide behind the line and pick up the first down.
We have had three short yardage plays we needed to convert, 3rd and one in first half (intentional grounding) and the last two plays, and we don’t get the ball to SB. It’s malpractice
Refs + Jerry Jones Bang Bus = not pass interference.
Fox finally calling the play for what it is. Not that it means anything.
That is a disgrace on shurmur
Penny? Is this a joke
I've seen very little humility from this guy. He's an excuse-maker. He sat around reminding everybody how bad the roster was last season.
It's time to flush the entire FO, bring someone from outside and rebuild this fucker.
Clearly should have been PI, you can't tackle the guy.
Perria just said so.
When will that dawn on the Giants' brass?
The Giants lose because they have a remarkably poor roster. They have the worst talent in the NFL by far at the most important positions.
Middle of the field, still open all day. For like a decade (actually even in 2011)
If they score 6, that's what they should do. C'mon you cowards
Because Eli didn’t throw it (it was still holding)
Can this coordinater
Don’t blame the refs
The announcers
Our defense was destroyed and toyed with
Maybe he'll get a future interference call
Tackling the offensive player still applies too :)
It can't be pass interference if there's no pass. So you can't challenge it.
When will that dawn on the Giants' brass?
If they finish with a losing record, they'll likely act as though they thought this would be a rebuilding year all along and therefore not reflective of Shurmur as a coach.
When will that dawn on the Giants' brass?
It's not just Shurmur - the talent level on this team stinks. After all that roster churn, it was just old garbage for new garbage.
His first game in the NFL. Easy bro.
No intention to pass? That has never happened to Eli who never has an intention to run.

It's time to flush the entire FO, bring someone from outside and rebuild this fucker.
People on this site say they'll be competitive in 1-2 years. I call BS. This looks like another 5 years at least to get a decent D together.
I hope you’re joking about Eli.
Woof
Quote:
But the Defense didn't show up. Might as well let #8 mop up.
"eli has been great " smh the bar has been set low with his play nowadays
Lol, right. Like what are you watching
I don't think it is the secondary alone - where is the pass rush? Prescott hasn't been touched once. I don't think he has been hurried - never mind touched.

I recall Dallas drafting two CBs back to back a few years ago. They were not good that year either. It takes time for these guys to develop. He needs experience.
They weren't this bad though
They were pretty bad IIRC. Bad is bad.
He's better than this.
I thought.
Hamilton just straight up sucks.
Our D-line stinks non factor .
Belcher has no answers
Shumur I have no idea what he is doing none .

Terrible fucking defense.
All of the stat dorks dick riding cornerbacks need to crawl back into their respective holes.
He's better than this.

I'll give him a couple of weeks. He was just hurt and looked like some of it is miscommunication.

Sometimes players start hot. Sometimes not. I'm not judging any of the players today. The dinks off the field however...
I think Dolphins might have something to say about that!

We'll find out when we play them.
Why did he get this job?
Eli was kept b/c he had no other guys at QB in March when Eli got his roster bonus.
Why should we throw Jones out there and risk injury in a game that doesn't matter?
It’s getting like news...only about ratings.
When did they last win a SB?

How have our receivers been the problem today? Our issue was Eli making bad decisions and the worst defensive performance we've seen in years.

Exactly
At least he gets to stay healthy. You know, since he isn't getting to play.
It's that time
So they boys can get a drink
Shurmur is in the bottom five of head coaches, I think.
I get your point, but a better O protects this defense a bit more. I love Eli but all he can do is check down and hand off now.
Quote:

Sure, why not. We'll never let Jones play until there's a game that matters for him.
With this defense, that might be before his rookie contract is over.
Why even argue who's at fault when we are once again getting our shit pushed in by the hated rival? Who cares?
What pisses me off is that jackass Elliot is looking like a world beater and Saquon can't get a fucking touch.
Fuck this coach.
because we know we would get torched....so let the young QB get experience. Knowing we had arguably the worst defense in the NFL...doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that.
Genius.
Tackling a WR Eli had no where to go and you know what .... he nor Penny the play before should have been in that mess, you give the ball to your best player in that situation. Not using Barkley in either play was beyond bad.
If Eli is no longer an elite player, WTF is he on the team? We know the D sucks, but so does dumb face.
The minute the Cowboys went up by a single touchdown Shurmur went absolutely pass-insane.
LMAO!!
Pat Shurmur
Can he stay out of it next time? Maybe an online fan poll or something?
if you have no pass rush. It seems like Prescott has open lanes and 5 - 7 seconds to throw the ball every time.
I don’t get it, but Giants are playing a ton of Zone and that’s why they’re off, but non-the-less, coverage is atrocious and there’s a lot of miscommunication too.
I do agree that we should play Connelly and Ballentine more.

today the game would be a lot closer.

Wait, this isn’t a playoff team?
Why? Can Jones cover receivers or rush the quarterback?

Eli has played fine. This defense is fucking terrible.
Our defense isn't doing squat but this game isn't Eli's loss. I also think we're going to fare better than people think against teams that aren't as deep as Dallas and Philly.

Disagree. Jones would have ran for a first down where eli only got 7 yards. Jones also probably could have ran it in for a TD on that 4th by the goaline. Eli hit one nice 43 yarder and has been throwing it short the rest of the game.
hey getting the completion % up

The defense sucks and no offense will make them better!
Is that coaching too?
We lead the league in culture! Wins, not so much.

It’s just pathetic, it was like they were afraid to use SB again after the big run. The offense looks like they were in desperation mode from the get-go.
He wasn't pushed into anyone. If anything Core did the pushing.

the anti Eli crowd is getting tiresome.

The Cowboys will have 600 yards when the game is over and I'm reading how Jones will save them... the same crowd, mind you, that went crazy when the kid was selected. But, let's blame Manning because we really don't know how else to vent.
Excellent point and that's where the seed of Shurmur's demise will start if he doesn't pick up his game and this team!!
fire DG and hire this guy!
Eli was Eli
Nothing better or worse than expected
Defense and non- use of 26 is disappointing
Eli penny on 3/1 is amateurish call
Literally unforgivable
No head coach in the league would have started him today.
That's supposed to nullify the penalty, but we are talking about a game where tackling a WR is OK
Daniel Jones isn't going to help this helpless D.
Do you know what a check down is and why it happens? You know... when the defense takes away the deeper WRs and leaves you with the check down options?
He forces the ball down field, it gets picked off... and then Eli sucks again right?

Going out on a limb with them playing Buffalo, aren’t ya.
I’m sick thinking about facing this team for next 4 years with these players signed.

Let's wait until the end of October when they are eliminated.
Why? Are they teeing off on Eli?
Would Jones be in imminent risk for some reason?
Do you think his confidence would be shot because he'd lose a game they're already trailing by nearly 30 points?
I was talking about the idea of starting Jones today... not bringing him in in the 4th QTR.
In fact, if we score no points on this drive, I am fine with bringing him in for the balance of the game.
The truth is that Shurmur wont do that because IF Jones throws one TD pass, it then creates a larger QB controversy. Yeah.. sounds fucked up doesn't it?
Probably because we can’t get the offense back on the field.
You’re out to lunch if you think this game is a reflection of anyone on offense.
How much football have you watched in your life to not comprehend that both the offense and defense can suck in the same game?
Shit, if you'd never watched a game this one alone should have given you that lesson.
Let's wait until the end of October when they are eliminated.
It's more about getting guys a look. Same reason why Ballentine and McIntosh were in the game
And you think you'll get your answer just because you "watch film"?
It’s mop up time. He should get some snaps.
But the Boy Band mobile phone commercial cancels that out
You’re out to lunch if you think this game is a reflection of anyone on offense.
35-10. Plenty of blame to go around in a loss like this. I think you'd have a point if it were 35-21 or something.
Too bad it's going to end like this, on an obviously outmatched team. This team needs a lot of time and help.
Quote:
10 Carrie's.... 107 yards 10.7 ypc why does he not have 20 carries?
Probably because we can’t get the offense back on the field.
When they ARE on offense they just throw it around.
3-17 check down down 25....the fans would be calling for eli's head
Dallas is a legitimate SB contender. We have no pass rush. We also have a lot of rookies in the secondary. Eli is also largely immobile.
That one to SB, the should have been wheel route he chucked at his leg, the screen a drive or 2 ago w/ SB behind the LOS. Hell even that SB catch right there...
I'm sure I'll still get killed for saying it but it's long been the case
Indeed. If you weren't going to play Barkley when the game was in doubt, don't waste him now. Save him for next week.
I don't like Shurmur's decision making here.
I don’t see it.
Both hires where extremely conservative and it’s unclear whether either guys can rebuild this team appropriately. Clearly, DG has thus far build a horrendous defense and Shurmur’s play calling is uninspired.
Going to be a long season.
We know the defense is bad but what Eli’s excuse now. Smh. He can’t average more than a TD per game.
(8:37) (Shotgun) E.Manning pass short middle to S.Barkley to NYG 22 for 1 yard (L.Vander Esch).
BS, this offense has had ample opportunities to make it a game and failed miserably, I’d say 60/40 on the D.
10 points isn’t going to win many games in any league.
Any good DE coming out?
I don’t see it.

Give me Chase Young
Just because he’s averaging 10 yards per touch doesn’t mean you give it to him 10 more times and he automatically gets you another 100 yards. If you give it to him every single play the defense starts to catch on, not to mention you’re not going to pick up first downs running the ball on 3rd and medium. Barkley can’t do it all himself and Just giving him the ball another 10 times would not have come anywhere close to winning us this game.

He could have retired.
Our future with Jones is now.
That is an interesting idea - although the rookie Minshew was 22/25 with 2TD in relief.
Damn sex offender.
Shurmur has been terrible today. If you just take the third and fourth and one plays where Barkley never touched the ball that cost this team points he has to take a hit. There’s a good reason why he’s a career loser
I don’t see it.

The Giants won 19 games the previous 2 years, not 8.
Lol
With a bad coaching staff. Great Combination.
Shurmur is and has always been an awful HC. Not sure why
Ownership, thought it would be different here
They're scared of the QB questions.
yeah I think now with 4 min to play it is time to pull him
Stats..add on
Our future with Jones is now.
How anyone can justify Eli being the starting qb for this team going forward is beyond me
if DJ leads a scoring drive...all the questions this week will about him playing...Shurmer is a mental midget with the media and doesn't want to deal with it
Quote:
What is the purpose?
They're scared of the QB questions.
If that's seriously the reason, fire Shurmur now. You don't make football decisions based on whether reporters might ask you annoying questions or not.
no no no, eli has to pad his stats against the prevent defense so all the homers can say he played well.
Eli is A problem. He's not THE problem. The offense could still be pretty decent, but the defense is a dumpster fire.
AT this rate we should be able
To draft Chase Young

Eli is A problem. He's not THE problem. The offense could still be pretty decent, but the defense is a dumpster fire.
Well both were dumpster fires today, the defense more so
We looked like a competent O at times. We look like a dumpster fire on D

Freaking cowards
no no no, eli has to pad his stats against the prevent defense so all the homers can say he played well.
+1
We looked like a competent O at times. We look like a dumpster fire on D
we scored 10 pts in todays NFL where u need normally high 20's 30's to win. Stop it. And no the last td in garbage time doesn't count
We looked like a competent O at times. We look like a dumpster fire on D
We look like a competent offense held back by bad playcalling (not getting the ball to Saquon enough). Agreed on the defense

Good takeaway, OL looked ok, so Eli looked ok.
When a Defense only makes 2 stops it's going to completely change the offense's gameplan. they are playing catch-up the whole game which is not what this team is built for
Both hires where extremely conservative and it’s unclear whether either guys can rebuild this team appropriately. Clearly, DG has thus far build a horrendous defense and Shurmur’s play calling is uninspired.
This ^^^^^^^
Thank you

The first drive and in garbage time. Good to know if that's the baseline. The defense looked competent the first and last drive too, lol

Is worse then expected. Ouch.

What is the purpose?
if DJ leads a scoring drive...all the questions this week will about him playing...Shurmer is a mental midget with the media and doesn't want to deal with it
It's not shurmurs decision. It's maras and he doesnt want to be questioned in the media
Yeah Aikman has no clue but some putz on BBI does...
You can't make shit like this up

thinking Eli is as much of a problem as the D are really delusional.

It's not really hard to understand this point

Well the playcalling wont change for a while
This is all on the defense.
Exactly
on a day when DAK has a career day against us...
on a day when we cannot stop the run either...
on a day when people here are questioning the play calling and why Barkley did not get more touches in the first half...
We are talking about Eli

You could always urinate on a dumpster fire but pissing all over this D, I mean really soaking them down might be fun but they won't get any better that way.
I want Jones to play sooner rather than later myself. Eli didn't call roll outs on 3rd and 4th and one calls earlier.
One positive, Jerrah is dusting out the checkbook.

I know it's a stretch, but hoping the defense can figure something out in the next game or two.
The Giants won 19 games the previous 2 years, not 8.
The 2007 Giants and were expected to be a playoff contender and had good players on both sides of the ball. The biggest question mark that team had was Eli.

We scored 10 points. That wont win with a good D. Eli with a stupid grounding and trying to run on 4th down and fumbling. there was a guy open in the endzone. He can't throw a 5 yard pass to SB. I dont know what O you are watching

Yes Eric. Always bring in the backup QB when the team sucks.
He’s not the problem, but with no chance to win the Rookie should get some snaps.
It’s going to be an interesting game. Bills are much better team this year, however, if there was a home game that we should win, it should be next week. My question however will be if our defense can improve and help the team win a agame?
Because your QB can’t account for more than 6 points a game. Why couldn’t this game have been a shoot out? Let me guess Eli had no time to throw the ball right?

When the defense can’t get off the field. The opposing team’s punter need not dress. And Shurmer doesn’t call Barkley’s number.

He sure is part of it
What is wrong with that? Something good has to come out of this game.
Take the low-hanging fruit.
This is all on the defense.
We scored 10 points when it mattered.

How was an 8-8 team the preceding year considered a playoff contender if the QB was a question mark?
But the kid is in, so yall can chill (even if it should have been earlier...)

They were supposed to be in the playoffs in 2006. It was a firestorm of criticism that that team didnt make it.
It's the QB's job to win. If Manning can't win, try to find somebody who can.
Why have him take the hits?
Games over, but giving DJ some NFL experience is a good thing.
please remember this is still garbage time.
OL was ok today
Lol
He never had to move! Anyone would have looked good.
Weak OL? This is Gettleman's rebuilt OL. If anything, it's the one unit on the team that's comprised entirely of guys that Gettleman wanted and paid good money to get.
If the OL is weak, then there's no reason to have any confidence in Gettleman to rebuild any of this.
All part of the Masterplan. Make Jerruh give him big bucks and eat up what's left of their cap, and hinder them going forward as much as possible.
If nothing else Jones popped his NFL cherry.

I'd like a coach that doesn't panic down two scores at the half.

Dink and dunk. short passes off target as usual

In terms of overall performance, run and pass blocking. They were ok, or average.

Hell, he panicked after Barkley lit it up in the opening drive.
Great point.

We got picked by very few procrastinators to maybe make a wildcard. That was it

I don't think Eli was the problem, but his grounding penalty was a big one and the other failed 4th down conversion was terrible. Same old shit.
This is what it's supposed to be.
so no too far off after Dallas went up two scores
it was over .

Except it wasn't grounding because he was outside the tackle and Barkley was in the area. I am willing to bet that has never been called before with the same circumstances
+1 I was saying the same thing, no one mentioned the receiver in the area.
