building. That was a thread I read a few weeks ago. The vast majority of the roster is his guys. I'm willing to give him another year after this one because he was put in a shitty cap position and Daniel Jones looks good. However, my point here is that the preseason optimism threads were garbage and embarrassing.
And we'll have cap space. The future is bright. The problem was a lot of people on BBI thought we were there already. We just dropped a ton of resources this year to open up a run for next year. That's just the monetary facts.
This disaster is on Eli??? Wow
after 2 years?!! just shut the fuck up
This is just game 1. While this game is an embarrassment i think most of us rational fans expected a non-playoff team. So just want to see them get better.
But you are right -- this moronic coach didn't learn from last year. There were games he went away from Barkley too much. And how often is he going to roll out ELi for a team as quick as Dallas?
You are going to hate me for this-- but I'd like to ask you and others a question. Who hired this coach?
Have to see how the draftees develop, but Gettleman's FA pickups have been blah, or worse. Last year was a waste of time with his half measures.
So far I'm not impressed with the organization - management or coaching.

Yes, it is a little too early. But if THIS is too early, then the f***ing middle of the preseason was even way too earlier. That's my point. We turned into a bunch of Redskins fans this preseason.
Year 2, and it looks like they're regressing despite much of the roster being churned.

I don't trust him to build a defense. Shumur and DG are fired after this year...pretty simple in my eyes. Clean house

oh I know the mara's wont do it...but both hires from day 1 were trash. So you can keep rooting for this team to go 4-12 and 5-11 with these to yes men running the show for Mara.
Was Gettleman the one throwing checkdown passes all day?
Was Gettleman the one throwing checkdown passes all day?
nope but he built this defense...with his hog mollies up front with no secondary and linebacking core or edge rushers...
And it was 0 games when people were posting in the preseason about Gettleman's foundation.
The stupidity here is astounding. The defense took its lumps big time today. Anyone not think these players will look at the tape and learn something?
Fucking game threads are going to be god damned unfuckingbearable this year.
SMDH.

This basically. You have a young team like this one, you're going to eat some losses. The idea is player development.

Sounds like you could use a blue football or two yourself.

This year? Where have you been?
I completely agree with this opinion. My point in starting the thread was that people were jumping to conclusions over PRESEASON games.

Gianst young D, weak pass rush and very coverage today. Dallas has maybe best pasing weapons in the league. there's room for optimism but this team is young with a second year in this system.

=1(0000).
again just another example of posters that only want to read positive posts and if anything negative they go nuts. Your post was fine. Just so typical. Tear anyone apart who says anything negative.
They are 8-25 for a reason, and the Cowboys are good. Optimism is the right of fan hood, we do it very year, And fickleness is a characteristic of most fans as proven on the game thread and this.
Giants are a better team than last year, and at 3-1 or even 2-2, you ll all be jumping back on the ole bandwagon
And before someone twists this up, I’m not saying we looked good today. I’m saying there is a whole lot of football left and there are reasons we looked awful.
Was Gettleman the one throwing checkdown passes all day?
Nope, but he's the guy who hired the staff that made those calls.
lol thanks for the laugh. I needed it
This is all spot on!
Gettleman took over a roster that sucked in a lot of places. It was very telling when they put up the 2016 draft classes and there are only 2 on the roster for NYG (one of which is the impactful Perkins) and the Cowboys had like 6 guys most of whom were impact players. Good drafting is the core to building a team. Every time you draft right, you lock down a position so you can focus elsewhere. Every time you miss, you leave holes you have to keep trying to fill.
Gettleman didn't have the cap room or enough picks to rebuild everything at once. We have improved the line. The secondary was beat up badly today, but if you have a rookie CB and ZERO pass rush, that'll happen against a pretty damn good Dallas team.
We got the QB of the future (hopefully), and CBs, so next year we have to find more pass rush and LBs. I don't see a lot of FA high quality pass rushers we could afford out there one the market. Vernon had trouble staying healthy, and cost too much to keep around (not like we won with him). We took a few stabs at upgrading with some FAs and draft. But, we still have a lot of needs:
- Pass Rush
- Impact LBs
- Deep threat WR
- Right tackle (Remmers seems iffy to me, likely stop gap)
I think we're going to see the D struggle a lot this year. No matter how good the cover guys are, if the QB has a clean pocket and lots of time, someone will be open. Even when we blitzed today, we didn't get near Dak. The CBs have a lot of speed at WR, and talent at OL, RB, TE, WR, and a decent QB (esp if given all day and wide open guys). I think we'll see the O improve but still struggle at times due to a lack of a deep threat to take the top off and an immobile QB, but we have more pieces on O than on D at this point. We're not at the level of Dallas yet, and especially on opening day.
This team might still be building a core and headed the right direction. One opening day loss, on the road to a playoff team doesn't tell us if we are on the road, just that we're not there yet.
I am not a Shumer fan but he has my sympathies. you can't expect an OC to scheme receivers open every play. These guys have to create some of their own space and beat their man on occasion. These guys don't beat anybody. The worst group of wideouts in football.
