Yeah we need to look at that, yes we need to do better there, etc.
A couple of points I took away:
He's fine with Eli checking down when they are playing deep 2, and taking the underneath stuff (so its not Eli per say)
He seemed to accept the crappy secondary play as "rookies", and acted like he almost expected it.
He thought Eli played fine, and the problems lay elsewhere
Had no answers for a lot of things other than "I have to look at the film". Things like no pass rush, the open receivers, 2-12 on 3rd downs. etc.
Thought Barkley was used fine, blamed lack of touches on the overall lack of plays
However, there is no better way to fuck up a QB than to have constant change. Imo, Shurmur gets another year to develop Jones. They invested a 6th round pick in him. It is stupid to have him learn 2 systems in 2 years.
Jesus Christ after listening to that he sounds like this is what him Â
I would tell Him he can either hand over play calling duties to the OC, or he can face the consequences of his record at the end of the year. Sick of these coaches who think they can do both without the track record for it. I like Shurmur more than most and really want to see him develop Jones, but he needs to stick to one job.
Unfortunately he got away with his lousy use of Barkley because someone asked him about the 2nd quarter. Thus he was able to deflect/minimize his lousy play calling.
Someone asked him about being in Dallas territory if he thought it was okay to not run Barkley and he said to paraphrase yeah - running his FB up the middle was the right thing to do. And no one really attacked him on the Eli rollouts.
I'm afraid in this comedy we're forced to watch- the joke is on us. And his name is Shurmur. We just have to hope he learns by the time the 2020 season begins.
We got a "GREEN-JACKET" all-world performer in Barkley and this clown would rather run Penny up the middle and roll old-man Eli out than give the ball to Barkley on 3rd and 4th and short.
Is in over his head. He is not a good head coach period.
His game plans and use of Barkley were in question most of last year and it looks like the same old crap again. He just does not manage a game well. Calling Eli rollouts 3 friggin times in critical situations is criminal. After the first one that looked horrid the play should have been scrapped. Oh you can assure the heat will be going up on him and the coordinators big time this year. If garbage like today continues he will be fired at the end of the year.... bank on it.
A lot of faith in Shurmur, but I lost quite a bit of what little I had at the end of last season when he kept pointing to inheriting a 3-13 team and improving it to a 5-11 one.
Think of the people you've worked with who have acted similarly. How often are they assets to the company?
on a rebuilding team to do in an opening game? He's not going to blame rookies and 2nd year players in public. He's not going to embarrass the players in a press conference. Shurmur has been pretty evenhanded winning and losing. He's not coming out fire breathing in front of the press. And yes they will look at film and decide who sucked and who did well.
Best thing is most of you have been saying the defense was going to get demolished this year and you act surprised when it happened.
I dont think the defense should be what takes attention Â
Want to play Eli anymore, he wants a QB who can move like he's not in mud so he can run his offense but John Mara is a dope. Eli is shot, I've said it for 3 years but his butt buddies here will point to a completion percentage or stat line or OL play and find excuses. He's done, he's cooked, put a fucking fork in him and let Jones learn on the fly, I can't watch this fucking shit every week where Eli shits the bed 2-3 times a game.

...as Head Coach.
And if this fucking Dallas game is a prelude for the rest of this season, he is gone. And will never be a Head Coach again in the NFL.
It's as simple as that.
Someone asked him about being in Dallas territory if he thought it was okay to not run Barkley and he said to paraphrase yeah - running his FB up the middle was the right thing to do. And no one really attacked him on the Eli rollouts.

Sounds great in theory but... well, our OC is no great shakes himself.

They didnt have enough players last year, and they didnt get their doors blown off like this. This wasnt competitive. Not even close.
