So Shurmur decides to not play Barkley in the pre season which I think most of us were fine with, but then proceeds to give him 11 carries and 15 total touches in week 1. WTF! The guy averaged 11 yard per carry today. Take out the 59 yard run and he still averaged 6 yards per carry. To not run him at least once on the 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1 when the game was still within reach (somewhat) is just assinine and bad coaching. I want Shurmur to succeed, I really do. He seems like a nice enough guy that cares for his players, but when you have the best RB in football you need to give him the ball in short yardage. Don't try to be too cute and run the full back dive or QB roll out. If he gets stuffed twice so be it. Take your chances with your best player. By the way, I heard all off season how the Giants upgraded their interior OL, which I agree they did. Put in the FB and run the ball behind Zeitler or Hernandez. Not too difficult. Heck, Zeke who had all of 3 practices under his belt touched the ball as much as Barkley today. I believe bad utilization of personnel will ultimately be the downfall for Shurmur.
