Shurmur's Presser Body Language

V.I.G. : 9/8/2019 11:08 pm
If anyone has ever read Spy the Lie or anything with the topic of cues for lying, this presser would light up their test. Spy the Lie was written by retired CIA interrogators - basic concept is look for clusters of cues in the first 2-5 seconds of an answer. Itching, swaying, eye avoidance, voice moderation.

Watch the whole presser - when there are questions with clean answers, no matter how difficult - he has strong posture, eye contact, direct. Watch him during discussions of Eli / 3rd down effectiveness / checking down.

He turns into Woogie from Something About Mary

BTW, I'm not talking about not knowing the word 'disconcerting' - I'll give him a pass on that.

Noticed the lack of eye contact too

at the beginning of the PC. It didn't inspire my confidence.
It is so clear to me that the front office knows this team

in this year is going to stink. And only delusional Giants fans would think differently. Look at our dead cap money.

They are just trying to survive press conferences until they can put DJ in. And now we know the protection is decent it is going to be sooner rather later than later. Shurmur can't hide his giddiness when talking about him. He's been around the game for a while and when a rookie performs like he has in practice he knows its his ticket.
Typical..

So tired of this Organization hiring shit HC's. It almost feels like this whole league lacks good coaching except the Pats. Tired of the Pats winning every year because of it too..

The earliest he’d get canned is after 2020 and things would have to remain dreadful with Jones not progressing at all for that to happen, in my opinion. I think Shurmur is here for his full 5 year deal.

professional cia agents who can watch a video of an obviously frustrated professional and come up with some of these comments. Pat Shurmur is obviously a competitor. He was pissed and I don't blame him. His team got absolutely spanked today. Some of you guys are so pathetic and need get off the internet and go outside or something and enjoy the nice weather while you still can
Eh I don't see much
Breeze_94 : 9/8/2019 11:53 pm : link
the body language isn't that bad. He's frustrated, yes, and looks like he's a bit annoyed with some of the questions (especially the ones from Jordan Ranaan)

I think the people coming for Shurmurs head after this game are a bit unreasonable. It comes down to the players. Defensively, we didn't have a single guy who was winning his 1v1 matchup. No pass rushers, no corners (except for maybe Jenkins), etc.

I think it's disconcerting
Rico : 9/9/2019 12:04 am : link
That our leader doesn't know what disconcerting means.

It is even more disconcerting that people even care about that at all....

He was obviously frustrated with bad calls and blown defensive assignments...as he should be.
Putting Hamilton
prdave73 : 9/9/2019 12:26 am : link
in the starting lineup is concerning. Any HC would know this guy is not starter material. I would rather put a rookie Corey Ballentine than Hamilton. What makes this coaching staff think this guy is starter material?! This is whats wrong with the New York Football Giants! Their coaching staff don't have a clue.. Also if they don't have anyone else to put because you don't trust the rookie, then go and get yourself a better Vet!

I don't disagree that Hamilton sucked today. But you don't just get a better vet. If one was available or if they grew on trees that would be different. And a 6th round pick from a DII team has a huge learning curve. I like what I see from him, but Hamilton looked very good in camp too. And remember Baker's rep coming out of college as almost a shutdown corner. How did he do today?
Come on
montanagiant : 9/9/2019 12:37 am : link
The refs were abysmal today in favor of the Cowboys. The NFL should be sending out at least 6 letters of apology for the BS these Refs pulled.

He's getting attacked in the press because after 2 years of a complete restructuring of a team that was horribly put together prior to him the media wants results. I understand that but this was always a 3-year rebuilding and he knows he's going to have to put up with the MSM rabid dogs for this whole season. Add that and obvious defensive breakdowns to the refs and you have a very pissed off frustrated coach.

It's the first game against a supposed SB contender in their house (why that happens every year is crap to me) and we knew we need at least one more year to shore up the holes we have.
He's 17 games in against a stacked deck
AcesUp : 9/9/2019 12:40 am : link
There are some things I'm concerned about too but let's hold off a little before whipping out the pitchforks. We're legitimately a season away from these discussions IMO.

Shurmur is at the crossroads of his Head Coaching career. If the Giants regress from last season, he is gone.
Mara and Tisch are the problem with the Giants
joe48 : 9/9/2019 5:09 am : link
It starts at the top of the organization. Ownership mostly Mara are responsible for the product we have been watching the last 8 years or so. Until they keep their noses out and let the football people run the organization this franchise will continue to struggle.
He looked lost
rocco8112 : 9/9/2019 5:26 am : link
and dejected, at least he didn't remind us this was a five win team last year as an excuse. He answer as to why Penny was used in a critical was ridiculous. The team is still pillow soft and can't respond at all to any in game adversity, although that problem pre-dates this soon to be ex-coach.

Are any fans out their confident in this guy? That was worst way to start the season for this team. Lose to Dallas, I can live with that, Dallas could have scored 50 is they didn't pity the Giants and ease up.

After Buffalo smokes the Giants next week the team will crater. Shurmur knows it and is desperately thinking of ways to feature Penny and Gallman next week to ensure Barkley stays around a dozen touches. Resting Barkley seems to be a goal for him. Guess he wants to keep him healthy for the next HC.He is clueless on how to help the D which proved yesterday it is non-competitive.

The Giants wanted a guy who was a "QB guy" to work with Eli's shortcomings and the new QB who they knew they would be drafting soon.

They also wanted someone who fit the particular personality and face of franchise that the owners were looking for.
Shurmur
Ike#88 : 9/9/2019 7:47 am : link
had better be making decisions based on making this team better for the future starting next week. Eli's intentional grounding play was all you need to see to know this is not going to get better. Add on all the checkdowns which are an addiction for him. When Shurmur did not put Jones in for the second to last series but waited until the final 2 minutes he showed he is looking over his shoulder at the front office. It is his job on the line he better wake up to that fact.
CB's get trucked by running backs on a regular basis in the league.
GiantsUA : 9/9/2019 8:04 am : link
CB's get juked and stiffed armed from wide outs frequently.

For a CB to have his lunch money stolen (punked) like Hamilton did was an embarrassment. Like I said in my prediction:

SB will post better numbers then Zeke, Giants D not ready for prime time.

SB playing better than Zeke/RB of the week
UConn4523 : 9/9/2019 8:26 am : link

hey buddy - no one is claiming to be CIA. I think that you might take your own advice - go outside, relax and enjoy the weather. There's no need to insult people interested in this discussion as pathetic.

We're just having some fun with a topic of WHAT IS THE COACH REALLY THINKING? Of course we can't know for sure but this is one theory. If you disagree, there are better ways to do that.

I saw someone confident, even defiant, in every aspect of the Presser except when he was speaking about Eli and the 3rd down success rate. I see someone who knows that Eli isn't executing his offense, the way he he'd like - but is nervous to admit it publicly. He had no problem telling it like it is on every other answer - the refs, the coverage, the rookies, etc.
He’s a smug SOB
VinegarPeppers : 9/9/2019 8:52 am : link
Victim mentality. Our best player gets 14 touches? He’s a long ball hitter and as good as a midrange pass even taking a handoff, or better.

5 carries at the half? No excuse for that.
Homeless person
Spinner : 9/9/2019 10:07 am : link
Shurmur looks less like a head coach and more like a homeless person who wandered on the field.
