Logic dictates if the team has no playoff aspirations

Poktown Pete : 9/9/2019 7:22 am
then Jones needs to play. Is there merit in waiting until the team is eliminated from the playoff's? I'm having a hard time seeing the benefit. The reward of starting Jones now is getting him maximum experience this season. The Cardinals are starting their rookie already and he held his own. What exactly are the Giants afraid of?
And I should have added
Poktown Pete : 9/9/2019 7:24 am : link
whatever the fear is, is it reasonable?
So we had a terrible first game,
MBavaro : 9/9/2019 7:29 am : link
and you feel with have "no playoff aspirations"?

Not just about his experience

Are DG and Shurmur the right guys? They need to prove the arrow is pointing squarely up, and that means they nailed it with Jones and Shurmur is the right guy to develop him.

You came into this season reasonably thinking this is a team with playoff aspirations? The first game didn't change my mind one way or another. This is a rebuilding year.

If it looks like a turd, smells like a turd, it’s probably a turd.
Not sure who thought we had playoff aspirations...
EricJ : 9/9/2019 7:41 am : link
before yesterday's game. I think any reasonable person was talking about 6-7 wins... maybe 8 at the most. I still think that is achievable.

Terrible game or not. This team isn't there yet.
I can understand
section125 : 9/9/2019 7:44 am : link
the concerns on Shurmur - the lack of using Barkley more and maybe trying to be to cute on a few plays.

I don't understand the Gettleman angst. He has definitely improved the roster, gotten rid of troublemakers. He has had a few gaffs in FAs, but so do all GMs. But his drafting looks very good. Is he a bit pompous? So what.
He's fumbled EVERY TIME he's been hit.
Karl Hungus : 9/9/2019 7:45 am : link
So, there's that.
Agree that Jones should play if the season's lost.
81_Great_Dane : 9/9/2019 7:48 am : link
But it's just one bad game. Lots of teams had bad games this week. Some of them will make the playoffs. The Giants still have "playoff aspirations," even if they're probably pipe dreams

Did you watch the game?
There is no point in playing Eli
Justlurking : 9/9/2019 7:50 am : link
Need to see if Jones can play ASAP. If he can’t, they need to fire everyone in the building and start over. They’re arrogant and embarassing. Shurmur has shown absolutely nothing and Gettleman is good at cutting players, but not much else. The amount of resources wasted by this regime is mind boggling.

Dallas defense....at AT&T Stadium

I, for one, and VERY glad that they didn't start Jones down there. And it'd be nice if they keep easing him into the starting role.

How has he definitely improved the roster? At least we used to have a pass rush. He’s improved the O-line and drafted Saquon. That’s about it. The secondary is actually worse than it’s ever been. The linebackers remain non existent. And the D-Line is big but not effective. The WRs are a train wreck and the QB situation remains a fucking mess. He has wasted assets and tells everyone he knows better than them. He’s been a disaster.

We need young blood in the front office. The Mara family picnic must end.
Can we wait till after 4 games

Then start having conversations like these. It was only one game against arguably the best team in the nfc. Sheesh, what is wrong with you ladies?

I would argue about being the 'best' team in NFC..

Yes -- I would argue this too. The Cowboys took advantage of the Giants weaknesses -- a young and unproven backfield -- and this made them look "all world." Let's ho they look against an a decent backfield before we crown them.

So does the untouchable Manning. Your point?
by the way -- the Giants offense did not
gidiefor : Mod : 9/9/2019 8:07 am : link
look great yesterday, and for those of you ready to give Eli a pass on it, I'm not sure he doesn't have to shoulder some blame yesterday. Most of the first drive was a 60 yard play by Barkley, I didn't really see him do all that much. He did not look all that sharp to me.

Why? Did Manning not have time to pass the football yesterday, was he under extreme pressure?
The OP raises...
bw in dc : 9/9/2019 8:09 am : link
the absolute right question. I’ve said the same exact thing. Which is why Jones should play because the odds clearly indicate we aren’t going anywhere playoff wise.

Yet, nearly everyone wants to go through the exercise of playing it out until we are “mathematically eliminated” just to say we checked that box to give Eli a chance. And that apparently will make everyone feel good that we tried. Great. Which ends up wasting valuable time for Jones’s development.

It’s not even worth having the argument. He can still make throws, he can’t make plays. The point here is really what is the fucking point of playing him? His hopeful replacement is on the roster and needs to play. This team stinks in the front office isn’t fooling anybody.
It is just one game

But this is our team this year. We will win a few games here and there but this is not a competitive squad.

It has been evident for a while

.

Why are we waiting? When was the last time Manning gave this team 3 or 4 TD’s per game? The Defense is just BAD, but Manning does absolutely nothing on the offensive end that Daniel Jones can’t do tight now. The Rookie needs experience.

Ok well if he does, then Gettleman, Shurmur, Mara (Chris) and the rest of the FO need to be fired and they should get new blood in there.
Why wait any longer?
Justlurking : 9/9/2019 8:16 am : link
I don’t get this narrative. This team is not competitive and has not been competitive for years! I’m done pretending. This team sucks. Acknowledge it and get on with the rebuild.
