When was the last time we had top notch offensive and defensive coordinator combination? I have to go back to when Fassel was the HC and Sean Payton and John Fox were his guys. Spags was fine when he had an awesome 4 man front. Gilbride had his moments as well. I don't want to sound ungrateful or belittle their accomplishments, but neither went on to do much after their tenure with the Giants ran out.
I'm not sold on Betcher yet and I the Shula hire was never inspiring. I know Better doesn't have a lot to work with, however he came with a reputation as a coach with a solid future in the league.
Wade Phillips has coached on almost every team in the league but never in NY. Marinelli, Fangio, Pagano, Pasqualoni (lots of Italian Americans are D coordinators apparently) Manuski, Schwartz...
Do none of them want to be in the NY spotlight? Is it the media? Ownership? Whatever the reason, we didn't look prepared yesterday.
