TO do a successful rollout don't you at least have let the defenses think you have the ability to run for it with the QB? Look, I love Eli and I don't think he was bad yesterday (he was totally fine and competent) and feel awful that we have wasted the back nine of his career. But so much of Shurmur's playbook, especially the rollouts need a QB that the defense at least will think will run. If that was the case, maybe we get the two first downs in the short yardage situation as the DBs and Lbs hedge of their coverage.
I think Eli can still be successful in this league, but Jones is the future for this organization, I believe he is ready to play, he is better for this playbook--so we might as well just get it over with. Moreover, shouldn't we see what this coach can do with Jones before we commit to a year 3 of this. I don't know if my opinion is right or wrong, but I am having a hard time convincing myself that Eli is the right QB for the long-term success of our franchise.
You want to say week 1; I get that. But that defense was an embarrassment and unlike 07 where our defense had talent but got blown out the first two weeks, nobody can convince me that we did not see the true defense yesterday and that this will dramatically improve against competent offenses in this league.
+1
I’ll add that Eli isn’t trusting his receivers. He throws the ball after they break giving the coverage time to recover and contest.
I hope Shurmer figures this out. Fast.
Funny post. Really funny.

+1. What a novel thought. Another ant-Eli post. How many do we need a day? Do some of these people even know or understand what they watch. So we determined that Jones is a highly accurate passer based on what? 4 preseason games playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers. I think I will wait maybe a full season before I come to that determination.
And oh by the way, did you happen to watch his performance yesterday. Completed 3 of 4 passes. The 3 completed were basically underneath and check downs. The one he missed he was under pressure and missed badly.
the sideline outfits were sharp
I would actually pay to see that. ;)
D. Jones 1 rush for 5 yards
Stats don't lie....

Under pressure? He was clocked in the head.. Dear god, the Eli worship has to stop here. Eli is not horrible but he is NOT the answer and at times is the problem. Jones needs to play NOW... Look at Lamar Jackson. He played last year in reality, regardless of making the playoffs, to be ready to be the unquestioned guy in 2019. Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith for 15 games but that was becuase the Chiefs were heading to the playoffs. If the Chiefs were out of it or had no expectation of making the playoffs he would have played sooner. We are in the NO playoff expectation scenario and thus Jones should play!
2. He knows Eli can't run it and is undermining him to accelerate the process of eventually starting Jones.
I don't think Shurmur is an evil genius, so I am going with Option 1.
...to prove to management that Eli can't execute Shurmur's playbook, ergo he has to make the switch to Daniel Jones ASAP.

Great Post. You did miss Eli's lack of pass Defense. He cannot escape a sack either...
