last season. He was considered a bust after his rookie season. He was resurrected in his 2nd year when they moved him up close to the LOS and had him run down the ball and make plays.
Against the Broncos, in nine pass rushing attempts he had four pressures including a game-ending sack. So let's make him a full time pass rusher. Invent a new position, an "outside the edge" rusher.
Collins says he and others were let go because they were too vocal and critical of the coaches. Is anyone still twisted enough to think that Collins was just an average player. The people who voted him to three Pro Bowls and awarded him 1st team All Pro must have been really stupid then.
Everyone says that the clubhouse is a lot more united and positive this year. Great news?
But my impression has been that Pepper's is unwilling or unable to run with slash redirect a receiver up the seam even a TE. Maybe he chooses to play the run to excuse himself from something he cannot do .
Carter, on the other hand, had a pass defensed vs a TE? I always said Carter's value might be as a tall heavy strong safety rather than a line player.
Bettcher got caught with his giant pants down. Kellen Moore did the smart thing, he watched tape of last year and simply threw it all over the field until we stopped it. I'm assuming Bettcher was all about slowing down Zeke and he had to go to man to do it, which Dak sniffed out repeatedly and made us pay for. His defense is supposed to be flexible with the $ backer but when that guy is Tae Davis, you are forked.
Peppers is no more culpable than anyone else, they all sucked so rating his play after that blood bath isn't really worth it.
This is spot on. The missed assignments in the middle of the field are one thing, but Bethea being lined up on Cooper in the slot and getting torched and Thomas biting on the play fake on Witten's TD are seemingly a result of coaching and playing man to address the run threat. I say Betch and the HC have more to learn from this tape than many of the players.
He seemed to know all the keys and like one said earlier
they threw the ball everywhere had people in motion
pre-snap reads Zak knew exactly where to attack
we had no answers Dallas knew exctly how to attack us
They went away from Jack Rabbit attacked Hamilton Haley
and Baker went to the TE's who we still can't match up
with . I hope Peppers improves and Love Baker and even
Ballentine ascend . I think we will get better but we still
have the issue with TE's . I think Baker improve each week
he is still a bit behind with the knee injury but by seasons end he will show he belongs .
Collins says he and others were let go because they were too vocal and critical of the coaches.
No I'm not wondering that at all. I think Collins was let go because they didn't think he was worth the money he was asking for.
I watched the whole Skins/Eagles game yesterday and he was practically invisible. I saw him make one nice tackle on the goal line where he crashed down from the edge. One he made a lot as a Giant, but I also didn't see him anywhere to be found on Jackson's two 50yd td receptions and we also saw him nowhere to be found like that as well when he was here.
I think the Giants were right about LC, not being worth that kind of money and it reamains to be seen if Peppers is an upgrade. Based on watching yesterday I'd say it's a push, but give the Giants an edge based on the cap $ saved.
Browns reached on him in the draft he never had a true position and they dumped him on us.
He is a great athlete but gets burnt on double moves and play action.
He is not developing fast enough and might not be more than a punt returner
When the trade happened that Peppers wasn’t that much better than Collins and it was ridiculed. The flaws he had in Cleveland were evident yesterday.
It’s one game, let’s see how he rebounds.
"wasn't that much better"?
Pretty sure Collins is better than Peppers, even the bad Collins.
Collins was at least intimating and made big plays
Yes he was a liability in coverage but he showed at times he could take over a game.
Washington over paid for him but he will have a better career than Peppers.
I keep going back to Collins's radio interview after the season, and his very strong insinuation his perceived coverage issues were the result of him chasing down other people's guys.
Now I get the guy has a lot of hurt feelings, and he's no Revis Island in coverage, but seems like coverage sucks in Bettcher's defense.
Webb, Riley, Collins, and Jenkins were are bad in coverage last year. You switch most of the characters and you get worse? Woof.
Browns really down on Peppers after rookie season but really high on Â
him after last season (although not so high on him that they weren’t willing to give him up). I don’t know why people would think he was good in coverage since he didn’t play well until they moved him up close to the line, as Collins was best. Collins was a good blitzer, and so was Peppers last season after they started using him in that way.
Also saw Cleveland people saying that he was a tweener. Too small for a linebacker and too big for a free safety. So they cut him loose and had him head for the ball and make plays. He seems a lot like Collins without the three Pro Bowls. But this is the wrong time to evaluate Collins. We’ll wait until we see how he plays for Redskins and especially how he plays against us.
I just think if people are expecting "much better than Landon Collins" they will be disappointed.
Collins was inconsistent, but in 2016 he had a legit shot at DPOY. He finished 3rd in the voting behind only Mack and Miller - ahead of players like Donald and Berry. I wouldn't be surprised if Peppers never makes a pro-bowl (even if he does turn into a good player).
And our rookie DBs were terrible. I'm not writing Peppers off just yet
They are young and faced a very good team week 1. If we play this bad defensively the next 3 weeks vs. Buf Tampa and Wash I would be quite a bit more concerned.
for 900 yards in the air and lost by many, many points.
Our Strong Safety could not stop the assault; but the Strong Safety is the least of our secondary problems right now, friends. We have untested players in key positions, no pass rush, and linebackers who can neither cover nor tackle. Worst of all, these flaws were evident before training camp began and appear not to have been addressed.
Is there a nucleus for this defense? Maybe. But that nucleus revolves around the three guys on the DL who stuff the run, and maybe Carter and/or Oshane: there's little behind them or around them to get excited about down the line.
We're in full-blown rebuilding mode, folks, and in direct competition with Miami for the worst team in football.
After one dismal game by the entire D, it is very hard to determine if his play was bad or if there is a problem with the system, coaching, etc. For example, for me, his biggest flaw was biting on every play fake. But every DBand LB seemed to be guilty of the same. That sounds like poor coaching and/or a systemic problem.
What? He's a third year pro - in what way is he "essentially a rookie"??
Sort of like how a late 1st round pick is "basically a second" when you want to make it seem worse, but an early 1st is never "basically a 1st". Never understood that logic.

If Eli was better, they would have been better. They only see check downs in practice. Need reps against a good QB....s/o
Give me a fucking break, so now the defense sucking is Eli's fault too?
Desan Jackson is going to resume killing the Giants twice a year.

it won't sink in until our division opponents make use look bad. Jackson is circling the scheduling as is Collins.

Maybe ballentine, who has the speed and size to run with a TE, can take Pepper's spot, who can replace an ilb.
Or Carter even.

You missed my sarcasm.
Either a) be able to legit rush the passer, not just blitz, but play on the line vs an OL and have a legit chance at a sack.
Or b) have actual pass defense ability, not just positional savvy, but the speed and athleticism also.
Or don't be on the 11.
Both...rare obviously that's great, but one or the other or don't have on the roster.
Our current roster doesn't reflect that thinking.

There was a faction on here that thought Peppers would be better

Faction?
Seemed like the majority position to me

Check back in 5 weeks.
What? He's a third year pro - in what way is he "essentially a rookie"??
Check back in 5 weeks.
Not a lot of veteran help? Antoine Bethea is a 13 year vet, and Mike Thomas is a 7 year vet.
And he's not a rookie either. It's year 3.
Shit, by that logic Eli should have another good 20 years in him.

should say:
but an early 2nd is never "basically a 1st"
Bethea and Hamilton were really bad, most of the back seven was bad, including Peppers, for this one game.
