How did our exes perform yesterday?

Joey in VA : 9/9/2019 4:08 pm
Without the Sunday Ticket for the first time in 20 years, I was only able to watch what was on, does anyone have any insight on how our former core players did yesterday? I know Odell went 7-71 and had a watch on, but that's about it. I saw Kyler Murray comment about Snacks being tired in the 4th quarter, but what about Vernon, Landon Collins? And no this isn't sour grapes or a way to cope with our putrid play, these were our guys for a few years and I'm always curious how they're doing elsewhere.
i read somewhere on here
Gordo : 9/9/2019 4:10 pm : link
that vernon was shut out and didn't even have a tackle. OBJ had a few catches, but nothing big, lots of underneath stuff. NFL.com has a highlight of every ball thrown to him.
looks like flowers was passable, and Pugh did ok.
I didn't focus on him...
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/9/2019 4:11 pm : link
but the Skins OL actually was kicking the crap out of the Eagles for about a quarter and a half yesterday...(I then took a nap... old man Kennedy).
I heard Vernon got some pressure
justafan : 9/9/2019 4:11 pm : link
I watched most of the Was/Phi game, Collins was mentioned once with a nice behind the line tackle. Washington's secondary was torched by DJAX, not sure whose fault that was though. Even with all that torching their secondary look far more competent than ours.
Kennard had

3 sacks.

I didn't expect Kennard to breakout like he has, but this is the one guy who I thought we would re-sign simply because he was a better fit for the 3-4.

Kennard

has been an absolute monster for Detroit since he got there. The fans there love him.
I know no one likes to bring it up
Greg from LI : 9/9/2019 4:20 pm : link
But whatever your opinion of Jerry Reese, you have to admit that he had some horrendous luck. He brought in three excellent receivers in Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, and Victor Cruz, and a valuable #3 in Mario Manningham. Those four each played six or seven injury-marred seasons. Meanwhile, DeSean Jackson is still going strong in his thirteenth season.

You could put together an all-star roster with the guys who were injured and prematurely out of the league, and that's without counting the limited career longevity of Chris Snee.
Jason Peters is still Philly's starting LT
Greg from LI : 9/9/2019 4:22 pm : link
He entered the league a year before Chris Snee, who's been out of football for six years.

though he entered in Buffalo as a UDFA (as a TE). Mouse McNally is the one who coaches him up to being a LT - could use some OL "coaching up" here in NY.

Kenny Phillips is another one of the premium picks, whose career ended early due to injury - not even discussing the bad luck with guys like Chad Jones.

Jason Peters

was also a UDFA, some teams get lucky

Giant Tight ends, WR's and safeties littered the fields with body parts.

Oh, and David Wilson broke his fuckin' neck. There's that.
The Giants had a bunch of good players in the 05-11 period
Greg from LI : 9/9/2019 4:30 pm : link
And none of them who weren't already veterans at the beginning of the period (namely Strahan) had much longevity other than Eli.
Let's not forget
Tesla : 9/9/2019 4:32 pm : link
the 3rd round pick who shattered his leg in a car accident before ever playing a down. Kenny Phillips degenerative knee. On and on and on.

And to my recollection none of these guys had extensive injury histories when drafted.

While Flowers played better than he probably ever did for the Giants, he still had some wtf moments in the game. Fans at the bar were yelling about him on several occasions.
Tuck did
Greg from LI : 9/9/2019 4:34 pm : link
He fell to the third round because he was injured a bunch at Notre Dame. Other than that, you're right, I can't think of any of them having notable injury histories prior to the Giants.

I commented earlier that it is pretty sad when that's considered pretty good.

.

That is the best I’ve ever seen him play. Maybe REfskims will regab him into a decent Guard. Time will tell

We tried to sign him and told him he'd be tried at OT, he preferred a team gave him a shot at TE....shit luck.

He The only person I tried to keep an eye on. From what I saw he loked good. But he is playing with a real defense so maybe that is allowing him to actually do what he’s good at.
If I heard correctly, right before halftime,
Mr. Bungle : 9/9/2019 4:41 pm : link
Beckham failed to get out of bounds to stop the clock, opting instead to try to juke defenders in the open field (which didn't work, so time expired).

I didn't see it, though.

It was 3rd and 28 and they weren't even at the 50. If he got out of bounds maybe they could've tried a hail mary but it's not like they were in FG range.
From the highlights I saw
Joey in VA : 9/9/2019 4:45 pm : link
Odell looked similar to last season, still sudden, still fast but without that little extra zip that had him turning slants into TDs. I really think the gear may be gone because of the build up of lower leg injuries. That said he's still a stud WR but not maybe the all timer he looked to be before those injuries.

Didnt the Giants also draft a CB in the second round who quit the first week of camp?

Are you thinking of Rod Babers? He was a 4th rounder.
Babers ended up playing a few years for the Lions, I think

Forgot about T2's college knee injury.

Thomas Davis had 2 ACL reconstructions and played well over a decade. Terrell Thomas played four seasons.

Had 4.5 sacks in 2014 playing 9 games
Had 4.0 " 2017 " 15 "
Had 7.0 " 2018 " 15 "
So with 3 sacks already he looks headed
for double digit sacks.
Romeo Okwara looks like he got shutout after
like 10-11 sacks last season Looks like we could
have used both these guys and just let them go .
Not sure where Kerry Wynn ended up

Exactly idk why people act like he was the second coming. He was a good returner, but his value as a runner was limited

Thought redskins had some established vets on D like Kerrigan.

There must be something about him that resonates with his teammates.
DRC actually had three tackles for the Redskins yesterday.

Made the roster. Not expected to play much, but can spell the young players and help ease them into the league.

So if the Redskins waived him during the season, would the Giants pick him up to use the same way? Of course not.
Is the supposition..

that the Giants should pick up DRC if he's released??

gets a holding penalty and gives up a few pressures per game (at least pre-season and game 1 this year), and he's been touted as part of Gettleman's great drafting. I think he'll be a good player, but he's got a lot to clean up.

The new emphasis on holding is BS. Even the Cowboys had 3 holding penalties, including Zach Martin.

Yeah that Zach Martin one was soft, told my Cowboys buddy watching the game with yesterday its a point of emphasis now.
OBJ screw up I'm surprised no one mentioned

8 seconds left in the half, the Browns were trying to get in range for a long FG attempt or a Hail Mary. Mayfield completes a sideline pass to OBJ, but instead of getting out of bounds, he danced around and got tackled in bounds as time expired.
I think..

OBJ was still at his own 42 yard line.

This keeps getting brought up, but it was 3rd down and they were way outta field goal range at that point. He was trying to make a big play. This wasn't some massive screw up. If anything it looked like he was his old explosive self.
