What Alonso is doing or how good he's been. We joked Alonso would be our "Judge" before the season and that's pretty much exactly what he's been.

Leading all of baseball in HR.
What was Judge's record? 52?
ChaChing : 9/9/2019 7:37 pm : link
Could happen...

But yea, Alonso's production is nuts regardless
Its not even just the home runs though
ZGiants98 : 9/9/2019 7:40 pm : link
Judge's career line is wRC+ 150, which is basically exactly what Alonso is doing this year.

He is the complete package as a hitter.
I haven’t been able to look away
Chris684 : 9/9/2019 7:41 pm : link
Even as bad as some of these losses and series have been.

I think it’s because they show up and keep plugging away regardless. I’m just hoping for a strong finish no matter what.

deGrom consecutive CY push would be nice.
Alonso getting 50.
Clinch a winning record.

If they somehow miraculously clinch the 2nd WC, even better.

Its still a really fun team. How can you not root for Nimmo, Conforto, Alonso, McNeil, Rosario, etc? Pen and Mickey did us in this year but this team still has a lot of talent.
Not gonna lie

Loved seeing Wilmer crush one!
This is weird
pjcas18 : 9/9/2019 8:51 pm : link
not one reliever on the Mets pitches better in a deGrom game than their averages. For most, it's much worse.

Also love seeing Pete

Is Lugo out? he only threw 10 pitches.
Brooklyn
pjcas18 : 9/9/2019 9:43 pm : link
lost, their series is now tied up at 1 - 1.

Baty had a double and a BB (with 2k's).

Lugo
pjcas18 : 9/9/2019 9:58 pm : link
finished it up, still only threw 21 pitches over the 2 innings, but probably means he's not available tomorrow.
Nice game. After the Mets and Giants lost yesterday, this win helps.

DeGrom, Lugo, Alonso - yessss!!!!
any outside shot

Doubt it’s an outside shot
bhill410 : 9/9/2019 11:09 pm : link
I would say he is very solidly on track. Obviously the wheels can fall off fast with pitchers as I still cannot believe Santana doesn’t get consideration. That said 3-4 more years of this level he is in.
Degrom and the HOF
PhiPsi125 : 9/10/2019 8:22 am : link
That’s a tough one. Jake has definitely been pitching at a HOF caliber over the past couple of seasons. And he was very good in the years immediately after being called up. How only blip was in 2017 which was his worst season...ironically also the season with his most wins (15).

Jake would need to continue this HOF production for another 4/5 years to even be in the conversation. Unfortunately, the Mets have torpedoed his chance at the HOF by NEVER winning his games. And yes, wins are still factored.

Either way, it’s too early to tell.
His first full season
pjcas18 : 9/10/2019 8:49 am : link
was a 27-year old, it's hard to accumulate the counting stats needed to prove longevity and make the HOF when you get his late of a start.

He may do enough from an accolades standpoint, but probably not from a longevity lens.

possible, but odds are against it IMO.

It's not impossible but it's going to be an uphill fight since he got such a late start. Winning a Cy Young this year, pitching at this level for another 3 or so years after this, and being at least effective/good into his late 30s would probably get it done.

3 Cy Young's, and perhaps a WE ring if not WS MVP, and he's in.
Z posted this last thread, but I thought this was...funny?

After the game, Callaway told reporters that he walked Andrew Knapp intentionally so the Phillies would have to remove reliever Mike Morin from the game. To be clear, Mickey Callaway said he would rather have pitched to Bryce Harper than Andrew Knapp with the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th inning so Mike Morin (4.15 ERA and 4.39 FIP in 43.1 innings) would be removed from the game.

Didn't watch the game, and this was far from the only criticism in the article but really?

Wish we could have been able to execute the Jake-to-Lugo plan a few more times this year as it's a recipe for success.

I have no expectations but I keep having a weird feeling that these guys are gonna squeak in. It doesn't make sense given how bad the bullpen is, but they are so resilient and I think the starting pitching is going to string together another 2 turns through the rotation of great starts.

Cubs have 7 with Cardinals. If Cards can go 5-2 we might have an opportunity.
Brooklyn in a one game series
pjcas18 : 9/10/2019 2:45 pm : link
now, winner take all for the title. 2019 draftee (5th round) Nathan Jones gets the start. He's been good, I wonder if Matthew Allan pitches at all.
