The main question that kept coming up today when talking football at work today, was how come the Giants didnt use Saquon more?? Really criminal how little he was used
One thing, they did not call a hold on Frederick when Carter blew by him and Dak hit someone down the left side for a big 3rd down pickup when it would have been a sack. Shortly after they called Hernandez on a very marginal hold that was far less flagrant than Fredericks(I think that is who it was.)
...so what do you suggest wrt the safety position?
I don't think there is a solution on this team. The Bethea signing didn't make sense to me at the time and I vocalized they in the spring, but water under the bridge.
The hope is the players around them can improve to hide their issues
Do you think that Cody Latimer is a late bloomer? Do you think that he can be a long term answer at one of the WR spots?
I think he can be a really nice compliment to a good WR. Never a number 1 guy.
That's what I meant, I wasn't suggesting that Latimer would ever be a #1 type but I am hoping that you're right and he could be a very solid #2-3 WR for the Giants moving forward.
and we ended up with Bethea who is clearly shot and Peppers
certainly isn't Landon Collins but whats done is done .
The Skins and the Eagles will exploit the same people until they are on the bench .
Can Corey Ballentine get a chance at FS ..???
What do we have to lose at least Ballentine can run .
Pretty much what I saw for the most part. Why Barkley wasn't utilized is just poor coaching and play calling. In a big game you rely on you studs, they used Engram and despite Barkeys success pretty much every time he touched it they under used him.
As for Manning I have said it all day. He is average at best and just not able to help this team. He makes too many situational mistakes and just doesn't lead receivers to make plays after the catch. I think his season will be very short.
Nothing positive on the D. They had the look of a poorly coached team. You can't get fooled over and over the way they did. The pass rush was so vanilla most of the game. For a guy that was touted very highly his D has been very disappointing.
So is Baker a mistake? Is he.notbtalented enough....too slow?
Or is he correctable? It looked so bad....i.know his 40 time was abit slow for a corner....just wondering your thoughts on him.
Thanks again
Can't even think about calling a rookie a mistake right now. It is the toughest position to play in the game outside of QB. We are gonna watch him take his lumps and see how he responds.
by a step with a good throw. Even on the other deep pass down the sideline, he had good coverage until he turned his head and stopped running to find the ball.

The 62 yard pickup on the slant to Gallup was his worst play. Turned his back inside way too early in fear of getting beat deep
If this secondary doesn’t step up Gettleman will be skewered and rightfully so. He traded up for Baker, drafted Love, drafted Ballentine. Peppers was part of the Beckham trade. Picked up Thomas and Bethea in FA. This is his crew and he’s dumped a ton of resources in the secondary. The fact that they sucked and were the primary reason for the loss does not inspire confidence.
Manning’s reaction time, his sluggish movement on long-developing screen plays, and underlying fear to make things happen are going to get him on the bench at some point.
He just looks like he's moving in slow motion....especially noticeable when you see Jones come in and play.
He also stared directly at a wide open Simonson on the intentional grounding play and couldn't pull the trigger for some reason.
The Giants problems are as plain as day to even the most novice of fans. Just a brutal display in coverage, a travesty of neglect with Barkley, and then there is the ho-hum Eli play we've come to expect the last few years.
And not bring up the fact that when Eli rolled right and fumbled Shepherd was actually tackled 10 yards down field (his target) and nothing was called?
Also what the hell was the deal with giving Dallas the benefit of the doubt on the 12 men in the huddle BS?
Both were key penalties that would have extended drives and when you add in the 3 times Eli was crunched in the helmet never called this game could have been different
Kill me with all the boobs running around in the Giants' secondary that Eli Apple, 10th overall pick in the 2016 draft, now solid starting LCB for Saints, and he just missed a trip to the Super Bowl last year.
You don't have to be Gil Brandt to know that you don't give up on a 10th overall after two seasons when his rookie year was very promising.
They could have probably kept Hankins (who just signed a two year deal with Raiders) or Harrison to be the run defender/no pass rush DT. Nope, they both go and we burn a first rounder on another run defense/no pass rush defender. Except we're not even sure how good he'll be against the run.

eli apple was a huge reach and a poor pick at 10
Lol Eli Apple still stinks, but he's a good player because Â

Thanks for the insight on lousy officiating.

In year 1? I think they will keep him as a package defender.
But you can make the point, it doesn't get worse than what we just saw.

This I agree with. Really surprised a 98 year vet could be so confused, out of position and useless.

NYG mismanaged the clock at the end of the first half. Badly. They needed another 7-10 yards to get Rosas on the field.
The new kid is an attempt at seeing if they can get find some fire at pass rusher rather than create it.

Just fast-forward through the Giants defense and you should be alright bud.

That's what it should say. Good review though Sy
