What were they on the hook for after they suspended him and his guarantees were basically out the window? Could they have retained his rights and basically forced the Pats to trade for him?
Apparently Seattle was also interested, so there was a market for him.
I wouldn't have released him. I would have sat him and fined him all season.
agree with bw, this is more of a revenge fantasy than something that's actually doable. You wouldn't be operating a well run and functioning team if you did this to AB. It would infest the entire year, he'd possibly drag other players down with him. There's nothing good that would come of it other than a nice "fuck you".
Gruden botched this whole thing, but what he's been saying since AB left has been spot on. Wishing him the best and no longer answering anymore questions about him.

I wouldn't go that far, but fining him, suspending him and letting other teams know that he's available via trade would have at least net them something in return.
there is a tampering investigation going on behind the scenes? IMO, there is no way the Pats would have signed him this quickly without some background conversations
I think their best course of action is simply to move one. They traded for him and it obviously didnt come close to working out. So good riddance... Why continue the circus? From what I saw they have some good young players they can work on developing and they dont need any more AB crap hanging over their heads.
That's not why they released him. And if you were following along, it looks a lot like he leveraged that drama to make a splash out of him promoting a different helmet company (that happened while he was still with the Raiders).
And as someone already mentioned, what would they be suing him for? They already voided his guarantees and they're the ones who chose to release him. I'm not sure what their damages would be, and without damages there's no lawsuit.

^^^Yup^^^
makes me wonder why I watch at all
Haha you win!
That would have perpetuated the drama. It would be day after day after day of the AB Saga. And the Raiders would just suffocate from the distraction.
They did the right thing.

Because it's better than the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl.

In Carolina? No wonder Gettleman has a Boston accent.
