When Judge set record there were 5 players in both leagues with 40+ HR's. This year there will be at least 15 or more. Alonso has had a great season but his total is padded by juiced ball. Fact. Same as all the other players reaching career high totals. I like him too but ALL HR records are falling this year for a reason.

But lets not knock either player. It does not make ones "guy" better and it is filled with bad dats
Judge set the record as a dead pull hitter to center left field. Now he hits to the opposite field in an effort to cut down on how pitchers were getting him out in late 2017 and 2018. You can easily look this up.
2019 is a more juiced ball...that's kinda obvious
My guess is that Alonso easily gets the record and does well in the years to come.
The good thing for fans is that both players seem to be easy to like, team first, all around players, good guys and likely around for years
When I learned baseball, Yankee Stadium was on the subway line 3 blocks away. Its where my grandparents, uncles and aunts knew how to go.
Over the years, who would not be mesmerized by the 1969 Mets or the 86 team? Yankees stunk at the time. I never gave a thought to being a Mets fan.
Who would not admire the play of Seaver, Koosman, Ryan? Who did not watch Gooden in his early great years? Never gave a thought to becoming a Mets fan. Since the Yankees became watchable again in the mid 90's, most years I couldn't name more than one or two Mets. Don't dislike them at all. Have no time or shelf space to pay more attention.
Recently, I know some names because they are included in wild speculation as trading partners. I have never seen DeGrom, or Noah or Walker unless they were pitching against the Yankees. I usually know every Red Sox and most on the Rays and Orioles and Jays.
Now, I do currently feel bad for a life long Mets fan. I am having a tough time watching the endless mediocrity the Mara's put out on the field these past years. But the Wilpons take it to a whole other level of inept and uncaring. Mara cares. He just doesn't know how. The Wilpons are just emotional brats. I did not like the joke George often made of the Yankees but he also was passionate and cared. I just dont see evidence ( granted from far away) that the Wilpons make winning a priority. That would really bother me. The last 7 years of the Giants bother me enough as it is.
But root against or put down the Mets players? Why in the world? Watch them much? No, I watch the Yankees. Nothing the Mets have done, or do, will change that by now, so other than watching good sports stories and good players why spend energy knocking them. Good luck and have at it.
Wish fans could trade owners or ban them for not taking the right substances or something. Over the long run, the enemy of a sports fan is bad ownership. Makes a mockery of years of investing in a team. imo
Is a good example of why NOBODY likes Yankees fans...Sorry to the few Yankee fans on the thread with class. And, I'm quite sure those Yankees fans don't care what other people think, based on their doucheyness. But just so ya know, as soon as you start talking, most people stop listening.
Simple question, will he or won't he - has nothing to do with the Yankees, but by all means, feel free to bring in juiced balls, exit speed, whatever makes you feel better.
I say Yes
In a juiced ball season I don't care how many he hits... Â
You know, while the balls may be altered more so in 2019, the original discussion started due to the numbers starting AFTER the 2015 ASG.
So Judge's 2017 rookie record was using juiced balls too. But don't let facts & science interrupt nonsense and trolling :)

Looking inside the balls and testing their chemical composition revealed that the cores of recent balls were somewhat less dense than the cores of balls used before the 2015 All-Star Game. The newer cores weigh about a half a gram less than the older ones, which might be enough to cause baseballs hit on a typical home run trajectory to fly about 6 inches farther. That alone is hardly enough to explain the home run surge of recent seasons, but when combined with previous research finding that baseballs began to change in other small ways starting around the same time, it suggests that a number of minor differences may have combined to contribute to the remarkable upswing in home run power we’ve witnessed since 2015
I just hope he stays healthy and productive for the Mets for a long time. That franchise sure could use a bit of luck when it comes to home-grown hitters. There is nothing more fun than watching "your guys" deliver for a decade.
Pulling for him, he seemed like a good dude in addition to being a passionate player.
Go Polar Bear!!!
(162/143) x 47 = 53.24
I think he at least ties it.
Judge still holds actual rookie HR record.

Oh please.
There are currently only 4 players on Yankees roster that are FA acquisitions. The rest have been drafted, signed as International players or trades.
Just so ya know.

That said - Pete Alonso is a legit masher and I think he'd have done it either way.
better not laugh too hard he may pull a muscle and wind up on the IL.
I don't, much, but I like Alonso - how could you not.
hey, we're taking baby steps here. It's almost mid September and we have not been mathematically eliminated, this is a step in the right direction.

And Judge plays in a bandbox, so there's that...
Judge still holds actual rookie HR record.
There's no asterisk for Yankee Stadium little league right field, there won't be for this either
Lol.....keep paying Bobby Bonilla....lol...is Mo Vaughn off the books yet ?
I'll be rooting for them in the playoffs if the Mets don't make it. Would be nice to see two NY teams win a pennant this decade.

I don’t buy pennants. However, if I see a nice T-shirt outside the stadium I will buy that.
I can't believe Stanton picked this season of all seasons to miss. He'd have sniffed Bonds' record.

lol Such a dick.
Rooting for him to do it for sure -- especially if it helps put up W's.
