NGT: the Odell watch thing just jumped the shark

mattlawson : 9/10/2019 10:54 pm
In a page right out of the AB playbook:

“Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that Beckham said on Tuesday that he plans to wear the watch again in Week Two against the Jets. He also said that he feels it is only an issue because he is wearing the watch and that there would be no issue at all if the watch cost $20.

Beckham added that he wants it to be “about football, not the watch.” His approach to making things about football instead of the watch is sure to leave some scratching their head.”

If he pulled this shit here would the fans, staff, and ownership really have patience?

Why is he allowed to wear a watch
ImThatGuy : 9/10/2019 10:58 pm : link
I mean even at rec league soccer and sports we make kids take off watches for safety reasons. I don't know why it's allowed in pro sports (or why even jewelry is allowed for that matter- imagine if someone pulled of Zeke's bull nose ring thing)
Honestly, I care as much about OBJ
jvm52106 : 9/10/2019 10:59 pm : link
as I do Antonio Brown. Me ne me guys who just want to be attention whores. AB at lesst put up more consecutive quality years. OBJ and his attitude, persona, issues and injuries is a slightly above average WR with enough baggage for its own plane.
So glad he's gone.

His attention seeking behavior is pathetic.

Is this how he is going to try and get out of Cleveland? So instead of a helmet he is going to do it w a watch. Jim McMahon must be saying WTF right now.
OBJ's a selfish ass that's for sure
jcn56 : 9/10/2019 11:06 pm : link
But that team of selfless boy scouts weren't a lot of fun to watch on Sunday afternoon either.
RE: Why is he allowed to wear a watch
Mad Mike : 9/10/2019 11:18 pm : link
I don't understand that either, I would've thought that wouldn't be allowed.

That said, if it's fine for him to wear a watch, why does anyone care? I can't imagine it affects his play, it may be a silly, look at me, thing to do, but ultimately has no bearing on anything.
WTF is wrong with him?
montanagiant : 9/10/2019 11:22 pm : link
The worst thing that ever happened was him making that catch vs Dallas.
I'm going to love it when some Defender

widmerseyebrow : 9/11/2019 12:39 am : link
I expect more of this kind of attention seeking behavior now that he's in the Cleveland market.
It is against the rules and he was fined for having a “hard object”
glowrider : 9/11/2019 12:51 am : link
The really funny part will be when the fucking thing is shattered or smashed in a collision and the glass, gears and bling blinds a guy like a poorly thrown penalty flag. After the incident, Odell will sign a multi million dollar endorsement deal with Xenith Helmets.

As they say, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

And then it’s more fun and games! (And probably a lawsuit, which is fun and games for lawyers.)
All of you talking about them breaking the watch and it shattering
Leg of Theismann : 9/11/2019 1:57 am : link
glass into people's eyes and whatnot... the watch is made out of plastic and rubber. It's purposely designed for athletic purposes and to not break so easily upon contact.
Ralphie ! Don’t wear your watch playing football . ...

Ottis Anderson was fined in the nfc championship game for wearing practice pants in the game. Parcells said he would pay the fine for the Super Bowl.

Once again he goes above team with this stupid stuff. I agree the catch and madden cover exploded his head. Or maybe he uses the watch to know when it is time to drink water or better yet run to the locker room to get an iv instead during the game

I guarantee you that

Exactly. Wear watch, get people to talk about OBJ and watch. Mission accomplished.

This is an excellent question, is it a digital watch? Kinda looks like it.

I’m sure the main feature is how bulletproof it is.

Look it can withstand the rigors of a NFL game!

It doesn't matter about the cost of the watch, but I would think it's a safety issue for the other players.

Clown car is mad that Brown is getting all the attention.

Always wore a watch on the field as well. I think it's a little weird, just like hugging a kicking net is weird, but I just don't get BBI's moral outrage over all things OBJ.
This kinda sums him up
Danny Kanell : 9/11/2019 8:19 am : link
In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that big a deal. But he’s doing it for attention and now saying he refuses to take it off so something as dumb as a fucking watch is becoming a distraction for his coach and team to have to answer questions about it. It’s completely unnecessary but it’s something that draws attention to him which he craves. It’s a small issue but these accumulate to the point where it becomes so exhausting for all involved.
Either have a rule or don't, cut out the fine BS.
Lenny in Indy : 9/11/2019 8:24 am : link
If the rule is you can't wear a watch, then make it a loss of down if a player enters the game with a watch. In the NBA if you're bleeding you must lave the court, you can't choose to play and just pay a fine. Either have a rule or don't. By allowing breakage with a fine is just calling for more attention to non-football related BS.
Attention seeking media queen.

Wants LA
Thegratefulhead : 9/11/2019 9:44 am : link
This starts with questions about his hip now the watch. He'll eventually make comments about the coach or players. He will start leaving before the end of the half for IVs. He saw how Antonio Brown got to exactly where he wanted to go. He wanted to go to the Patriots and the Steelers didn't want to send him there. I predict obj is at the beginning of the same strategy. Good luck Cleveland. Hello LA

Actually, it's not really his decision to make. There's a reason why the rules don't allow players to wear them on the field - but he's choosing to ignore them and to it anyway, and then act like a baby when he gets fined for it.

And I don't think the word micromanaging means what you think it means.

averagejoe : 9/11/2019 11:49 am : link
Odell will probably show up for Jet game wearing an ascot and a diamond brooch. This guy is such a tool. Nobody is talking about his great plays anymore since he hasn't made any since 2016. I hate the Jets but will be rooting hard for them on Monday. If Cleveland loses on national TV in OBJ's former stadium to the Jets the implosion in Browns huddle will be epic.

Apples to oranges. One is an equipment violation the other is player safety. It'd be like an NFL player trying to take the field without a helmet.

Fines are used to enforce minor, non-performance/safety, infractions in most sports.

The thing I hate about Odell, and any player like him....
Britt in VA : 9/11/2019 12:11 pm : link
is the nonchalance in which they just don't care about 10's of 1000's of dollars worth of fines. If you're willing to burn up 17,000 per week to wear a watch, donate it to childhood cancer or something.

I just don't get the mindset and never will. What are they proving?

dont the fines go to charity?

Or players retirement fund?

I don't know.
