Fansided had a great article on this recently and built a good case for such. First off, his PFF rating at ILB over the years has been less than mediocre.
Secondly, he stinks in pass coverage.
Thirdly, he is good at rushing the qb.
So maybe this can kill two birds with one stone. Get Connelly into a starting role and get a better Edge rush with a very athletic guy who seems lost where he is at and clearly is not efficient in that role.
Is Bettcher smart enough to even consider doing this? Is this a bad idea?
Neither do any of our edge rushers.
+1
He doesn't seem particularly good at getting the D lined up correctly or communicating either and those are supposedly his strengths...
We need personnel that can beat the man in front of them 1 on 1 and no one showed they could do that last week.
Olegtree being one of them.
Did they both not see his limitations? Surely the tape was there to see them, right? How could two football brainiacs miss out on this?
Why does he suck so bad?
This.. We then went ahead and moved his money to Guaranteed money.. so we couldn't cut him till at best next year..
I actually said to myself this past wknd - who's this terrible number 47 guy. Dunno how I missed the number change but he isn't worth anything near his cap hit next year and minimal dead money ( I know, I know - dead money is dead money ... )
he was a desperation flier and clearly isnt meeting expectations
Lol, but they did make a valid point....Ogletree is rated by PFF as a less than to mediocre ILB so this isn’t working either. So do you keep a guy starting who is clearly inefficient and hurting the team? If not as a ILB, where else? I didn’t realize he is considered too slow to play OLB.
He'll probably get forklifted trying to set the edge.
His straight line speed isn't bad, but it wasn't like it was when he was at Georgia. And you're right he doesn't have the twitch, short area agility, and bend to be effective.
The guy would be a bum playing OLB.
BUT APPARENTLY, he has to play!
