I want Daniel Jones to start at NE

crick n NC : 9/11/2019 10:06 pm
I wanna see what he's got in a prime time event on a big stage. In the end it probably won't mean much to his career just being one game, but a good performance might do a little good for this team.

Anyway....
We have prime time games
ron mexico : 9/11/2019 10:10 pm : link
Against both the eagles and cowboys after the bye.

NE isn’t the only opportunity for that.
Most likely game 7 - IMO
Reale01 : 9/11/2019 10:11 pm : link
10 days to get ready.

If they have 2 or fewer wins I think it will happen.

If 3 wins it will depend on how the team is playing.
I wanted him to start
NewBlue : 9/11/2019 10:11 pm : link
Last Sunday....this Sunday...every Sunday.....it is time....we can't win anything this year....let the kids play...why we signed Manning for these next 2 years is a Mara mystery to me
A short week to prepare road game against NE
moespree : 9/11/2019 10:11 pm : link
Might just be the worst possible game for him to start in.
Primetime
crick n NC : 9/11/2019 10:13 pm : link
At NE is different to me than any other game considering the two teams unique history
Ah poo poo
crick n NC : 9/11/2019 10:14 pm : link
On the short week. You prepare for NE before the week you play them
How great would it be if Eli’s last game
ron mexico : 9/11/2019 10:16 pm : link
Is beating the patriots. I’m not sure how that would be possible, both from a winning and not playing another game POV, but it would be sweet.
I was thinking
crick n NC : 9/11/2019 10:20 pm : link
Of how sweet it would be for Jones to go into NE and continue where Manning left off.

That’s a lot to ask of a rookie QB on his first start with this team.
I want

the Pats and the Giants to swap rosters.
If anything, they'll go soft for kid
micky : 9/11/2019 10:43 pm : link
and play him in an "ideal" situation ie..after NE game and 10 days to prepare and start vs Ariz.

But i like the idea you have and not "baby him" and see him vs the best..up in NE. But giants are afraid to hurt their newborn

This is the highlights from the 2011 regular season game vs the Pats.

I believe this was their first home loss in something ridiculous like 2 years.

Good times.

I want the Giants to win out
justafan : 9/11/2019 11:32 pm : link
but thats not happening. My guess is the Daniel Jones era begins @home against Miami in Week 15. The Giants will have been basically eliminated from the playoffs the prior week in Philly and will limp into Giants Stadium at 6-7.
6-7 sounds promising after what i witnessed Sunday from D
Payasdaddy : 9/12/2019 12:35 am : link
Let’s hope at least 2-3after week 5
If we can’t do that maybe play him
Deflated after 1 game is pathetic
Maybe home field and win this Sunday changes my attitude

We once had the first shot at Belichick, but George Young did not like him and preferred, well you know who since I will not dignify his name by typing it.

This. All we are doing is slowing his development and the rebuild. This team is going nowhere and playing Eli is just a foolish waste of time.
So far they have not put Jones in a position to fail. My guess
Blue21 : 9/12/2019 7:23 am : link
he may start after the bye and start against Arizona. Doesn't mean they'll win but he'll have a better chance.
As a fan who wanted Eli to get this season
joeinpa : 9/12/2019 7:39 am : link
But have been persuaded by those arguing the point, (It s not about whether Eli can still play, it s about whether he-can win with this team) ...as to why Jones should play.

I find myself wondering if the energy and athleticism brought by Jones might not make this team better right now.

I m certain there are many who would shout down this notion, and I really have no rationale to defend such a position.

But I don’t think it s a certainty that I m wrong.

Tuckrule : 9/12/2019 8:05 am : link
Crazy to pretend a mobile qb wouldn’t have helped last week. For example the 4th and 1 rollout where Barkley was double covered in the flat. If jones was in either they couldn’t double Barkley to account for jones or he could have beaten the defender to the sticks. Athleticism at the qb position, especially a qb who can run, would help immensely once you pair that guy with a back like saquon. Would slow down the pass rush as well it’s a ripple effect.
That's nice.
Giantology : 9/12/2019 8:05 am : link
Maybe you should write John Mara, Dave Gettleman and Pat Shurmur a nice letter?

I'll wait a couple more games to see because if this defense continues to be epically bad then you have to consider it. Part of helping a bad defense is ball control, prolonging drives and keeping them off the field so much. Jones could definitely have helped in those short yardage situations to keep the ball and convert third downs.
Not so sure why not
lecky : 9/12/2019 8:34 am : link
but on that 4th and 2 play why wouldnt the Giants bring in Daniel Jones? Or even some short yardage 2nd or 3rd downs? NO does it and other teams do it. Gets him some real playing time and certainly opens up a ton of options for the offense in that situation. Last thing I ever want to see is Eli Manning rolling out.

originally thought Jones would start against the Jets, but now I'm thinking it might be against the Cardinals on the 20th. Eli's lack of mobility is a real problem. Shurmur clearly wants a mobile QB. That was part of the reason Lauletta was drafted. Jones of course is even more mobile.

Jones mobility so far is running two yards and losing a fumble. When Jones gets in there it won't be pretty.

I average around 1 letter per year to John Mara, the last one i wrote was my disgust with the dog peeing celebration.

I just basically said something along the lines that i appreciate and love Eli Manning but its really time to move on, think about the future and play Daniel Jones.
Also that its sad to watch Eli lose all these games, if the defense is going to be this bad I think playing Eli is just hurting his HOF chances

yada yada yada

He usually responds, havent seen anything yet
Also

Well rumor has it that was in part bc Belichick was boofing one of the secretaries in the 80s.

The amusing footnote being the guy they went with instead, R** H******, ended up getting busted later on with a transvestite at one of the Jersey Turnpike rest stops.

NTTAWWT, of course, by all means coaches should get their freak on like the rest of us.

Just like Mahomes development was slowed? Or Rodgers'? Silly argument. Redskins are not starting Haskins, are they?

It's crazy to think a rookie QB who fumbles every 10 plays would do better than a 16 year vet. That's what is crazy.

Or Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers. Roethlisberger, Mayfield, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff, and Garoppolo all sat to begin their rookie seasons.
I never understand this argument. If anything history has proven that sitting a QB is actually better for most of them. I think Jones could handle starting now but the Giants are not hurting his development by not playing him.
Tired of losing
Thegratefulhead : 9/12/2019 3:09 pm : link
Completely support trotting Eli out there if we are winning. He deserves that. If we fall 2 games under 500, get Jones in there and try something different. It no longer matters whose fault anything is. What matters is, we invested extremely valuable draft capital in Jones and NFL game experience is what he needs. We need to evaluate him in regular season games(more is better). That would be valuable information going into the 2020 draft. It would at least be exciting. I have watched every game Eli has ever played. I know who is, so do you. He isn't about to get better. Jones in an unknown with tons of upside.
