Prepare to barf: Flowers with a glowing debut

It looks like Captain Overextend finally learned to bend at the knees and move his cement blocks.

Talk about playing the looooong con.......
Maybe, it was just one game, or maybe we should have moved

him inside instead of right tackle. Time will tell.
Many here thought he’d be better off at Guard
Simms11 : 9/12/2019 8:16 am : link
too. I’m not sure why the Giants didn’t try him there?
I'll wait until I see it for myself or
Diver_Down : 9/12/2019 8:17 am : link
that it is reported by an unbiased site other than HogsHaven.
How many people on this site
gmenatlarge : 9/12/2019 8:17 am : link
suggested that same move constantly, oh well...
I watched one preseason game of the Redskins
rasbutant : 9/12/2019 8:23 am : link
and focused on Flowers out of curiosity. I thought he play really well until he didn't. He had two plays were he completely whiffed and almost got his QB killed. I think this might be the type of player he is. 90% really good, 10% really bad.

It would be like a RB that averages 10 yards/carry but fumbles at least once a game.
Wait a second -
Diver_Down : 9/12/2019 8:25 am : link
When has Flowers ever been 90% good?
.
Diver_Down : 9/12/2019 8:26 am : link
Didn't he still....
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/12/2019 8:26 am : link
give up 3 pressures and commit 2 penalties?
I saw he had a massive holding penalty
Tuckrule : 9/12/2019 8:27 am : link
After Keemun converted a 4th and 8 at midfield. Next play holding flowers ruined the drive. Love the hype after week 1. By week 4 his ass will be on the bench
So not completely sucking
jvm52106 : 9/12/2019 8:34 am : link
is now considered playing well. Ok, I guess that fits today's landscape.

He is still standing way too tall
NYG007 : 9/12/2019 8:36 am : link
and blocking with his hands high. Same exact flowers. The positive I saw, he looked for contact.. That was never the cream puff here
I watched that game
gidiefor : Mod : 9/12/2019 8:46 am : link
Washington's O line became a turnstile in the second half mostly through Flowers side -- looked like the same old Flowers to me

He looked much better in the first half though -- I guess he must have gotten tired
Would it shock anyone if it was all mental with him?
Jim in Forest Hills : 9/12/2019 8:56 am : link
Like bad plays get him down and he starts to break down. Its hard to explain those plays where he just lapses, like he forgot the play or was almost thinking about something else.
I
AcidTest : 9/12/2019 8:57 am : link
watched the first half or so of that game, when he was very good. He apparently got worse and reverted to form in the second half with three pressures and two penalties.
I watched every snap with an eye on Flowers...
Dan in the Springs : 9/12/2019 9:00 am : link
he had a couple of pressures and a hit (maybe two), no highlight whiffs. There was a holding call on him that was bogus - was actually the LT. There wasn't a lot of run blocking - the announcers said at the end that WASH had no running first downs in the entire game, which seemed unbelievable but I guess it was true.

He looked better than out on the edge, he's definitely going to be a better guard than he was a OT. Biggest problem for WASH was the right side of the OL, although my eyes were keyed on Flowers I could see pressure coming from the right side of the line several times.
He's lazy
Joey in VA : 9/12/2019 9:05 am : link
With his technique, it will fall apart and he will be the same shitball. I find it hilarious that this Hogs Haven site is drooling over this suck bag.

As I recall the Giants floated the idea of moving him to guard and he told them no, he was a tackle. Then an injury happened and it made the point moot.
change of scenery and position can do a person good...
BillKo : 9/12/2019 9:14 am : link
....however he totally blew here.

That gif above of him missing a block - and then chipping off his own man - is classic!!!!!

A friend of mine watched the whole game
Jay on the Island : 9/12/2019 9:19 am : link
He said Flowers was solid in the first half. He said it was the opposite in the second half. I am sure many will just assume he had a great game and bash Gettleman for not "trying him at guard."
I think Bill Callahan has a lot to do with getting him
bradshaw44 : 9/12/2019 9:26 am : link
to play up to "competent" on the OL. I doubt this is the beginning of a turn around though.
Still not a guy
David B. : 9/12/2019 9:30 am : link
you want in your locker room.
As I recall Flowers resisted being moved to guard
TMS : 9/12/2019 9:42 am : link
and even tapped out right after that.
I saw that game - he had a pretty good first half
jcn56 : 9/12/2019 9:50 am : link
Most of the Redskins had a pretty good first half. The 1 PM games thread here was actually a little concerned that maybe the Redskins will be better than expected this year.

I chalked it up to the Eagles sleepwalking, and the second half proved me right.
I was genuinely surprised at his first half play
j_rud : 9/12/2019 9:57 am : link
and even commented on it on the 1PM game thread. But he got lazy or maybe tired in the second half. Very much the Flowers we know, complete with 2 penalties. But that first half, yeah, I was bummed lol. He looked pretty good and not against scrubs either. Held his own against Fletcher Cox on a few occasions.
Seems like classic symptoms of not being well-conditioned
Bob in Newburgh : 9/12/2019 9:58 am : link
5 years in the League - and still not fully invested.

You can be pretty safe claiming this is not a foundation player.

I'd be concerned if the Giants took position advice from BBI. ;)

I agree I watched that whole game. Sure I was at a bar but I wanted to see how he would do at guard, and honestly from that perspective he was not horrible by any means... lol.

I said the Giants should have moved him inside back when he was here. Was not a popular opinion!

It's one game
giants#1 : 9/12/2019 11:19 am : link
and from various reports, it sounds like he was mediocre at best, granted that's a massive improvement from his overall play here. But even in his time here, he had stretches where he looked competent and I'm sure you can scour the archives and even find some game reviews where he was "good".
.
arcarsenal : 9/12/2019 11:21 am : link
For what it's worth... we're talking about one half of serviceable play and our own OL doesn't look like it's anywhere near the massive problem it has been in the past.

Odds are, Flowers will turn back into a pumpkin. It sounds like he kind of did in the same game anyway.

Our glaring issue has shifted from the offensive line to the back 7/8 of the defense.
Why does it matter?
crackerjack465 : 9/12/2019 11:40 am : link
He's still at best an average to below average guard.

Both of our current guards are better...

So why would we want him?
The Philly Redskin game was a night & day between
Jimmy Googs : 9/12/2019 12:31 pm : link
first and second half. The Redskins, their O-line and Flowers all look pretty good in the first half, mostly pass blocking.

Not worth debating this but I think Philly defense looked like they were "dogging it" in first half

Second half was a completely different story and Flowers and the rest of that line were committing penalties and run blocking was abysmal, creating bad down/distances.

My overall opinion - we should be happy he plays for the Redskins...
Ill take Hernandez and Zeitler

Interesting perception - it really was a tale of two halves -- because Chase Keenum was on fire in the first half - he looked like Dak Prescott did playing the Giants - then he couldn't make a play for love nor money in the second half - I mean the Skins were outright stifled - so there might be some truth to this
The guy
jtfuoco : 9/12/2019 1:02 pm : link
has a few good games here as well but overall he cant sustain any kind of consistent play and needed to go
Its entirely possible the Giants asked him to play Guard
Brown Recluse : 9/12/2019 1:08 pm : link
and he refused. He never came across as the most coachable kid.

Maybe he's finally realized this is his last chance.

Do you really want Flowers on this roster?? You can probably find better places to work in that jab

Hell, the Redskins won't want him by mid year.

Here's how bad Flowers is - having a decent first half is reason for some people to question why we didn't use him at Guard, yet he had a pretty piss poor 2nd half reminiscent of his performances here.

My neighbor is Eagle fan and he indicated this Eagle team a year ago also had a lot of slow starts to games in first half. They did against us as well in at least one of the games.
There was a gif on Twitter two or three weeks ago...
Britt in VA : 9/12/2019 1:33 pm : link
from preseason where he completely whiffed one on one and got Keenum crushed right up the gut.

Matter of time. Flowers is, was, and will always be a bum.

I agree, the Philly D looked rusty in the first half.

I’ll say this though - McLaurin looked good at WR. Just imagine if Jones has had WRs like that at Duke.
Yep. And i added him to my fantasy roster

It's a guess on my part, but I think Flowers said no to playing G
GeofromNJ : 9/12/2019 4:08 pm : link
because he thought he was a good LT (delusional as that may be) and he knew that LT's made a lot more money than G's.
