especially as you get older (ie- your 20s instead of a teenager). My son got it when he was 12 and had no energy for a while (and he was a runner/swimmer). I'd be surprised if it's only for 1 week.
I had mono about 10 years ago... but I had no idea I had it. I just thought I was sick. It was terrible. I had no energy at all. I was still playing in bands at the time and had to drive into the city to play a show and lug all my gear inside. I thought I was going to collapse.
Also had a few beers on top of it... thought I just had a bad cold or some sort of virus. I didn't know it was mono until later on.
But it lasted an entire month. If that's what Darnold's got... I'm not sure I see him playing next week, either. It really drains you... I can't even imagine trying to go for a 1 mile jog like that let alone play in an NFL football game.
I had mono my sophomore year in college. Missed my finals. Probably the worst I've ever felt. Unless they've got some kind of state of the art treatment he's out for at least a few weeks.
And you risk rupturing your spleen I believe if you have it and perform physical activity.
I had it in college, thought I had the flu because I had just got the flu shot. I eventually went to the hospital because I ran a high fever and would sweat through the sheets and I knew something wasn’t right.
It doesn't really matter though in that offense. The Jets lack talent at both OL and WR. They had one of the league's worst WR corps in the league WITH Enunwa.
One of my teammates got mono in HS and I believe he missed a month of school/basketball.
I had it in high school the danger is the enlarged spleen. Once that subsided he can play. That has to be monitored. I was out for 3 weeks during football season.

I'd bet my life in November of 2011 I had (undiagnosed) mono. I was always tired, but never refreshed from sleep. The lethargy was unbearable, socially and professionally. I spent a month constantly sporting manageable but still difficult fever. Occasional sore throats and stuffy noses. I kept thinking it was a bad cold and kept giving it more and more time to go away and it never did. Finally faded one day after about a month (which I remember because I felt like myself for the first time again at an employee party that November).
But man it's hard to even think about playing football with mono, let alone actually playing football.
It doesn't really matter though in that offense. The Jets lack talent at both OL and WR. They had one of the league's worst WR corps in the league WITH Enunwa.
still really likes their chances for the next few games...
So funny. I have nothing rational/real against him, but I simply cannot stand when I hear his voice on radio. It bothers me to no end, irrationally. Anyone else? If he's on, I change the station.

100% agree. I have mentioned this on here before, but its like the bat signal whenever Jets talk is on WFAN or ESPN Radio. Problem I have with him is when he calls in on Monday's, it's like he is reading from a pre-written script he put together. He always has to mention that he was at the game...yada yada yada.
He calls into every single show too...does this guy not work?
I got mono when I was working as a journalist in Belfast back in the '80s. I thought I just had a cold. I had to fly back to New York, and as the plane climbed to altitude the glands in my neck and jaw swelled up. I thought I was going to choke to death. That one wiped me out for weeks -- between having zero energy and the jaundice that came with it.

After last week and the last several seasons, I realize our house is made of glass but man, has NYJ nation been hit with a combination of punches in the last week:
1 can't solve K situation, then K loses Game 1
2 prized FA linebacker plays a half then injured (albeit minor)
3 solid WR lost for the year, replaced with old/injured WR
4 QB to miss multiple weeks
Staring down the barrel of 1-5 or 0-6 with CLE, DAL, PHI NEx2 in next 5 weeks.

They are fucked. As Giants fans we know what it's like to have your season end by mid October. The Jets will be there. But, back to the karma, it reminds me of when the Giants started 0-6 and I had to listen to all the crap from Jets fans. I'll have to dust off their taunts.
I had mono between my junior and senior year of high school. Â
It was no joke. The glands in my neck got so swollen I couldn't swallow. Had to go to the doctor every day for a week for steroid shots to keep the swelling down. Slept for another week after that. Like, the whole week. Luckily (or unluckily) it was summer.
Now that I think about it, what if Sam Darnold needed steroid shots? Would that be considered a PED? What are the alternatives?
How about we win week 2 before we talk karma. Sadly, we may be staring down the barrel of 0-6 as well.
I'm more aligned with the posts above, both teams are picking in the top 10. The Giants are a 6 win team this year. I just want to see improvement from the young guys and get Jones in the games so we can see if he is the real deal. I have very low expectations for the Giants. Not so much from what the Jets have been saying/doing.
The Giants are eating all this dead cap space to set the tables for 2020.
Not fun.
High fever.
Night sweats are the tell-tale symptom. I was sleeping with a pile of towels next to my bed... I would wake up every night at 2am completely drenched. My blanket and pillows and sheets were soaking wet... I think the first couple of nights (before I was diagnosed) I'd thought I'd peed myself. So my routine was just getting out of bed and putting down the dry towels and going back to sleep on top of them.
My baby had had mono this year (about 2 years old). The distinguishing symptom for her was the night sweats.
But the worst symptom was the throat pain that sometimes comes with mono. Anybody else have this? I could only communicate with pencil and paper, and begged the ENT to take out my tonsils. To his credit, he refused. But I got good medicine for the pain (Roxicet liquid, since I couldn't swallow pills).
It sucked.

Ya I saw it after you posted. The only thing that came close was when my kids gave me Coxsackie. Hurt like hell, but no fever, and the opiates wouldn't knock it out.

Yep. Every time I swallowed (just my saliva even) it was so painful. I actually went to the ER because my throat swelled up so bad in the middle of the night.
Ugh don't you need to not undergo physical activity for 2 months Â
If he truly has mono, he's gonna be out for a while and I'd be surprised to see him when they play the Giants, which was my point.
The Giants don't play the Jets until November 8th. Darnold is not going to be out for 2 months.
I'm not proud of this, but I drafted Darnold as my backup in fantasy. I only need him for one game, though, when Deshaun Watson is on bye. Wanna guess what week that is?
Like I said, not proud. But after watching the defense vs. Dallas, it was probably a darn good move.
We won't see him unless the Jets win. He always talked about how talented the Jets were and how Darnold was going to have a big year. He claimed the offensive line was going to be good as well. Basically everything he predicted was wrong so I doubt we see him for a while.
He may be out a bit longer...Mono usually has bif spleen(splenomegaly) as part of the response to infection. No one with a big spleen gets released to play for even high school football until the spleen is near normal sized because of the risk of rupture with contact sports.
but their fortunes likely rest on whether or not Darnold can make it back out of the week off.
Doubtful they're winning Monday.
They're not winning the week after @ NE.
Then they're off before @ Philly, Dallas and New England.
Survival at this point for the Jets would be 2-4 after 6 and that would mean winning @ Philly and then Dallas. I see not shot they win these other games.
Not too late to claim Davis Webb from the Bills practice squad Â

Britt, 'roids like prednisone are catabolic and not conducive to muscle building- just water retention.
Seriously, does any fan, in any sport, suffer more than the Jets fan?
Any Faust fans here? How about that musical from your Dad's era, "Damn Yankees?" My opinion is that Broadway Joe made a deal to win SB III. The results cascade down through the decades. How else could such a mediocre QB win the biggest game in the NFL?

As far as the heartbreak scale goes I’d say the Vikings and Bills are at the top. Then you have the generally moribund franchises like Cleveland and Arizona... some others... and then the rest. Jets have suffered but there are worse.

I still think we can steal 7-8-9 wins (last Sunday didn’t help my thoughts) but this was always going to be a not quite ready type season. It can still be one if the more productive ones. Can’t lose the season in September again. Gotta Win here on Sunday.
The Jets season is now over already. We won't see fanofthejets posting here anymore.
Hope Darnold returns sooner.

As a Northwestern fan. I hope he does well. At least better than what he did with the Broncos and the Vikings.
I had it in college, thought I had the flu because I had just got the flu shot. I eventually went to the hospital because I ran a high fever and would sweat through the sheets and I knew something wasn’t right.
Mono - ( New Window )
We're not facing the Jets this weekend. It does make it much more likely that OBJ gets his first win in brown though.
Damn. You beat me to it.

Fair enough, but that game is ~2 months away (Nov 10th). If he's not back by then, it's basically a lost season for his development.

This is exactly what happened to my brother in the 1970's. Hope the best for our little sister team with the weak big brother.
Both of them in the Top 5 again would not surprise me at all.
That looks like a 1-5, 0-6 start...

Likely was the case anyway. Maybe they steal one against Cle or the Jags with Darnold healthy.

Losing for the Giants is a good thing this year. It'll get DJ in quicker and we will have a better shot at a Chase Young/Jerry Jeudy type talent.

Yes.
No point there. Just ... random.

A friend got mono years ago. Bigger dude. Was overweight, granted. Still ended up losing something like 30-ish pounds over a few weeks.
Gained it back and then some lol.

Fairly certain there have been several of each. Once he got hit with the Bell news (MRI) he really started losing it. Love it.
