especially as you get older (ie- your 20s instead of a teenager). My son got it when he was 12 and had no energy for a while (and he was a runner/swimmer). I'd be surprised if it's only for 1 week.
I had mono about 10 years ago... but I had no idea I had it. I just thought I was sick. It was terrible. I had no energy at all. I was still playing in bands at the time and had to drive into the city to play a show and lug all my gear inside. I thought I was going to collapse.
Also had a few beers on top of it... thought I just had a bad cold or some sort of virus. I didn't know it was mono until later on.
But it lasted an entire month. If that's what Darnold's got... I'm not sure I see him playing next week, either. It really drains you... I can't even imagine trying to go for a 1 mile jog like that let alone play in an NFL football game.
I had mono my sophomore year in college. Missed my finals. Probably the worst I've ever felt. Unless they've got some kind of state of the art treatment he's out for at least a few weeks.
And you risk rupturing your spleen I believe if you have it and perform physical activity.
I had it in college, thought I had the flu because I had just got the flu shot. I eventually went to the hospital because I ran a high fever and would sweat through the sheets and I knew something wasn’t right.
It doesn't really matter though in that offense. The Jets lack talent at both OL and WR. They had one of the league's worst WR corps in the league WITH Enunwa.
One of my teammates got mono in HS and I believe he missed a month of school/basketball.
I had it in high school the danger is the enlarged spleen. Once that subsided he can play. That has to be monitored. I was out for 3 weeks during football season.

I'd bet my life in November of 2011 I had (undiagnosed) mono. I was always tired, but never refreshed from sleep. The lethargy was unbearable, socially and professionally. I spent a month constantly sporting manageable but still difficult fever. Occasional sore throats and stuffy noses. I kept thinking it was a bad cold and kept giving it more and more time to go away and it never did. Finally faded one day after about a month (which I remember because I felt like myself for the first time again at an employee party that November).
But man it's hard to even think about playing football with mono, let alone actually playing football.

still really likes their chances for the next few games...
So funny. I have nothing rational/real against him, but I simply cannot stand when I hear his voice on radio. It bothers me to no end, irrationally. Anyone else? If he's on, I change the station.

100% agree. I have mentioned this on here before, but its like the bat signal whenever Jets talk is on WFAN or ESPN Radio. Problem I have with him is when he calls in on Monday's, it's like he is reading from a pre-written script he put together. He always has to mention that he was at the game...yada yada yada.
He calls into every single show too...does this guy not work?
I got mono when I was working as a journalist in Belfast back in the '80s. I thought I just had a cold. I had to fly back to New York, and as the plane climbed to altitude the glands in my neck and jaw swelled up. I thought I was going to choke to death. That one wiped me out for weeks -- between having zero energy and the jaundice that came with it.

After last week and the last several seasons, I realize our house is made of glass but man, has NYJ nation been hit with a combination of punches in the last week:
1 can't solve K situation, then K loses Game 1
2 prized FA linebacker plays a half then injured (albeit minor)
3 solid WR lost for the year, replaced with old/injured WR
4 QB to miss multiple weeks
Staring down the barrel of 1-5 or 0-6 with CLE, DAL, PHI NEx2 in next 5 weeks.
The Jets season is now over already. We won't see fanofthejets posting here anymore.
Hope Darnold returns sooner.

As a Northwestern fan. I hope he does well. At least better than what he did with the Broncos and the Vikings.

Mono - ( New Window )
We're not facing the Jets this weekend. It does make it much more likely that OBJ gets his first win in brown though.
Damn. You beat me to it.

Not sure Siemian is even solid

Same here. He's the prototypical Nerd.

A Pop Warner QB could shred this putrid defense.

If he truly has mono, he's gonna be out for a while and I'd be surprised to see him when they play the Giants, which was my point.

Fair enough, but that game is ~2 months away (Nov 10th). If he's not back by then, it's basically a lost season for his development.

The Giants don't play the Jets until November 8th. Darnold is not going to be out for 2 months.

This is exactly what happened to my brother in the 1970's. Hope the best for our little sister team with the weak big brother.
Both of them in the Top 5 again would not surprise me at all.
