According to Chris Mortensen. Depending on the price tag he's a guy the Giants should be interested in. Only 22 years old. He's got 3 years left on his deal plus his 5th year option. Can play Safety & slob CB.
Even if you want to point to the draft picks, jackrabbit will be gone fairly soon and there are always injuries in the secondary. It makes too much sense so it probably won’t happen.
The Giants have been in bad need of a FS. Wasting their time on antoine bethea was a joke. Giants need to pull the trigger. They need more overall quality.
We're a year away from being a real team. Most likely two years really.
MF has 3+1 left on his deal.
Trading a future second or third for him just doesn't make sense given those circumstances.
And I was big on MF draft time. I wanted him. And he's still a good player. But, managing a FO isn't as simple as going after every good player that becomes available, especially in the middle of a rebuild.
Lol to the delusionals on this thread....its going to take a first Â
He’s been a huge disappointment and they are semi admitting their mistake drafting him so high. If he was what they thought they wouldn’t trade away a 22 year old cost controlled safety who you just drafted.
RE: Lol to the delusionals on this thread....its going to take a first Â
Among the 34 defensive players with 200 or more coverage snaps in the slot last season, he ranked first in completion percentage allowed (51.3%), first in passer rating allowed (53.4) and tied for ninth in coverage grade (76.7).
He’d be a big upgrade there. Depends on the price.
RE: RE: Lol to the delusionals on this thread....its going to take a first Â
You do what it takes to get him. 3rd round is a steal. He is a superstar talent on D. You know, where we lack game changers currently. Knowing the Giants, they wouldn't want to offend the guys starting now.. Because I mean, 13-13 on pass attempts over 10 yards is stellar.
I hope for his sake, he gets the hell out of there ASAP. The Dolphins are just horribly lost and have to be the worst-run franchise in the NFL right now.
They give up assets for Rosen... now they want to dump one of the few bright young players they have. I have no idea what they're doing there.
Fitzpatrick can play. I would almost guarantee they're misusing him and surrounding him with complete garbage. If they send him to a team that is being run by adults, I would feel very confident about him being an impact player. I don't think NYG are that team... we aren't in a position to make a trade like that.
But, god... the Dolphins are an utter fucking disaster.
if they're looking for a 1st you tell them to take a walk. A 2nd and a swap of 3rds on the other hand might not be the worst way to go. He's cost controlled for at least 4 more years.
though I'd be surprised if DG made the move, both in terms of draft picks in trade, and the cost of MF's second contract.
They need to get out of the mode of worrying about second contracts and into the mode of acquiring talent.
If Fitzpatrick commands some ungodly sum of money, it means you made the right move. Best case scenario you gladly pay him with the cap money saved from shipping everyone out, worst case scenario someone else does and you get a comp pick to offset the cost of renting him for 4 years.
I don't think DG will even consider Minkah as he comes Â
with too much baggage. We already shipped out Eli and Annie. We aren't going to be looking to add Minkah and Melissa.
But Miami should consider nothing less than a 1st or a high 2nd. They have to eat the $13.5M signing bonus. The trading team will get a talented player for $1.2M this year, $2M next, and $2.7M the next. The 5th year option is possible as he was picked #11 and the calculation is beneficial to the team as opposed to a top 10 pick.
is a great talent who has not been properly developed or utilized by a horrible organization. To think a 3rd is gonna get it done for the 11th overall pick from last year is laughable.
Minkah Fitzpatrick would be a great fit for this team and his potential is worth making a move for. A former first round selection and a a New Jersey native, we should seriously be weighing up a possible trade as he would ultimately fill a positional need for us. I would be fine using our second round pick and potentially one of our third's to be able to make a deal happen.

and you have free reign to see a trade anywhere in the league.
What makes you think he's going to want to go from the worst team in the league to the 2nd or 3rd worst (or 8th or 9th, whatever you think) team in the league?
He's going to do to the Patriots, or the Saints, or the Chiefs or Eagles.
He's not going to push for a trade to the Giants.
the only thing even remotely appealing would be he's from NJ and that only goes so far with the young guys.

Why do you think he has free reign? He's got 4 years left on his deal. If the Giants offer a 2nd and the Pats offer a 2nd the Fins aren't going to accept the Pats offer.

Who says he has free reign or controls where he goes?
Beckham was in the league a lot longer than Fitzpatrick has been, had just signed a 2nd deal, and still had zero control over where we sent him.
If they want to trade him, they'll simply take the best offer. He has no say in where he goes.
I only read the headline of this post, but when it says to me "Dolphins give Minkah Fitzpatrick permission to seek a trade" that would indicate to me his agent is reaching out to teams he is interested in playing for and gauging interest and I assume the Dolphins provided the agent loose parameters of what a trade would take.
So then in my mind the agent finds a desirable match, brings it back to the Dolphins and then they work it out.
Different from Beckham in that the Giants shopped him, and dealt him squarely on their terms, they did not to my knowledge give Odell permission to seek a trade.

He can push for whatever team he wants but Miami still makes the decision. Unfortunately with our needs at pass rusher, it doesnt make sense for us to invest a 1st in a CB/Safety when we just invested a bunch in those spots this past draft. We need a pass rusher in the worst way and hopefully our CBs will develop as we had hoped. With Beal hopefully cross your fingers on him, baker, Ballentine and Love we should be OK and keep filling in the rest.
He’s from NJ, of course the Giants will be interested. Â
I mean, yeah - I'm sure they will allow his agent to reach out to a few teams that he'd prefer to play for and gauge interest.
But ultimately, if he's available, they're just going to take the best offer. They don't owe Minkah anything - he's a 2nd year player. He might point them in a few different directions, but that's about all the leverage he'd have here.
Of course it is. It's also total hypocrisy considering one of the players Diver is a huge advocate of has had a parent very present throughout his career. If we were going to avoid all helicopter parents, we'd have needed a new QB a long time ago.

I'm not sure Archie is considered on the same level as Annie and Melissa. Does Archie take to twitter to take subtle jabs at the Giants?

Oh, is Twitter the part that makes it bad? I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you just had a problem with parents of players talking about what management should or should not do or attempting to dictate their offseason strategy through the media.

Apples to oranges. Aside from sharing the same first name, there's not much alike between the 2. While you can get on Archie for working to keep Eli out of SD, he was pretty much a non-factor the rest of Eli's career. At this point EM is quite distinguished and anything Archie says is just background noise.
That's not quite the same as a young, unproven player's family/friends stirring the pot.
It's been written that he's not happy with the way he's been used. Â

And some of the good franchises find the poor ones who have players who you know have been underutilized by other teams that you know can provide a contribution on yours.
Miami is in that place right now. Unfortunately, I don't feel the Giants front office thinking is progressive enough to take advantage.

Am I assuming too much from the headline?
Depends who leaked the story to the beats. If it's the Dolphins front office, then that's basically an open invitation for all GMs to contact him with their best offer.
Think that if DG and his team think he is an answer here. Â
Abrams can get it done. we have a lot of flexibility $$$ wise coming up, if we think we have ELI's replacement on board in Jones. We want to win now. They will all be looking for jobs if that does not happen.
is one of the best slot corners they have ever scored, in both NFL and NCAA. Given how much the Giants have invested in the corner positions, I don’t think it’s a great idea to give up the draft capital needed to get him.
And a guy that good at slot corner, you don’t play at safety.
This author proposed:
From Pittsburgh to Miami: 2020 second-round pick and fourth-round pick
From Miami to Pittsburgh: Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2020 third-round pick
I think the Giants would have do it. He fits the timeline with his age/contract and it's a crapshoot that they'll find anyone as good as him with their second round pick. I think the Dolphins would have to be pretty interested too if the Giants offer that considering there's a good chance the Giants don't make the playoffs this year. If it's between teams like the Seahawks, Steelers and Giants... you have to take the Giants pick. This team needs more DB talent in the worst way.

Do it
For a second round pick I would do it. Him, Baker, Love, Beal and Peppers could make for one damn good secondary

Just give Miami exactly what they gave up for Rosen since went #10.
is kicking the tires on MFitz. Boys - ( New Window )
So the idea is that Dallas will unload their trash (Taco) and offer a mid to second round pick for Minkah. Most are pegging Dallas to win the Division, but at a minimum making the playoffs so their ceiling in draft collateral is a late 2nd rounder.
Anthony Brown(the slot CB) is going to be an UFA next year.
Dallas also has a lot of talent and depth on the DL. Charlton was a healthy inactive week one causing speculation that Dallas was looking to trade him last week.
According to Chris Mortensen. Depending on the price tag he's a guy the Giants should be interested in. Only 22 years old. He's got 3 years left on his deal plus his 5th year option. Can play Safety & slob CB.
Giants are better off letting me start. Even if i have to play safety

trying to swoop down and take him right out from underneath us just when he was about to sign.
Think Man - why would you want to play in Dallas? Jerry just paid Elliot, Prescott is coming up and then Cooper .... You are going to end up making minimum wage down there.
It would be great to have a free safety with his size, athleticism and Â

Because he is going to make what he is going to make on his rookie contract. Might as well play on a winning team that puts you in a position to succeed, possibly win a ring, and get paid by someone else.
It pains me that the Cowboys have actually started run themselves Â

Ross allowing them to trade Tunsil was bad enough. Fitzpatrick had a solid first year. What a shit show. And honestly if I was whomever they draft at QB next year I’d pull an Elway or Eli. They OL is NCAA level.

Wrecking ball is out and they are rebuilding.
Of the 3 premier non QB positions you have LT, CB a d DE.
If they dump Fitzpatrick there 2 of the 3 who are top 10 picks who by all accounts are under contract and solid. Rebuilding you don’t trade away young cost controlled starter level players.
Also yes Miami isn’t a rest sports town. Wtf does that done my post? Keep being one of the worst posters here though. You’re really good at it
Yes, please!
I still think love is the next Giants FS but maybe he can play corner alongside ballentine and Baker.
Idk that you can say that about a 4th round pick at this juncture

Agree. But I wouldn’t give more than a 3.
Being on his rookie deal, he is good value cap wise.
Clearly we need more talent in our secondary, Fitzpatrick could be either a good deep FS or slot CB (if Love is the future FS).
It would be interesting to know how highly Gettleman and our scouts rated Fitzpatrick last year.
I would send either a 2nd round pick or our 3rd and 5th round picks for him.
Maybe throw in a player like Beal.
Maybe they're misusing him but he hasn't had that type of game as a pro yet.

Dak DID make a lot of tight window throws in week 1. Just because he also hit some guys running free does not take away from that.
Seriously? He had a couple nice throws, but few if any were tight windows.
They need to get out of the mode of worrying about second contracts and into the mode of acquiring talent.

Depends who leaked the story to the beats. If it's the Dolphins front office, then that's basically an open invitation for all GMs to contact him with their best offer.
And a guy that good at slot corner, you don’t play at safety.
From Pittsburgh to Miami: 2020 second-round pick and fourth-round pick
From Miami to Pittsburgh: Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2020 third-round pick
I don't think that gets it done.
But I'd give our 2nd straight up.

What a coinkydink
Do it

I read he prefers to play slot corner, not safety.

My God, this team has needed a decent FS for a decade. Just make a call. Please. And if Minkah isn't interested so be it.

Is that verified?

So the idea is that Dallas will unload their trash (Taco) and offer a mid to second round pick for Minkah. Most are pegging Dallas to win the Division, but at a minimum making the playoffs so their ceiling in draft collateral is a late 2nd rounder.
Dallas also has a lot of talent and depth on the DL. Charlton was a healthy inactive week one causing speculation that Dallas was looking to trade him last week.
Lastly, both players have the same agent.
According to Chris Mortensen. Depending on the price tag he's a guy the Giants should be interested in. Only 22 years old. He's got 3 years left on his deal plus his 5th year option. Can play Safety & slob CB.
Giants are better off letting me start. Even if i have to play safety

No, probably not.
Think Man - why would you want to play in Dallas? Jerry just paid Elliot, Prescott is coming up and then Cooper .... You are going to end up making minimum wage down there.

Because he is going to make what he is going to make on his rookie contract. Might as well play on a winning team that puts you in a position to succeed, possibly win a ring, and get paid by someone else.

Why the hell would Miami want Charlton?

Plus the Giants can give them something that Dallas can't. Antonio Hamilton. Think about it, if your Miami and you are really trying to tank to get the best pick getting Hamilton for your secondary will all but sure it up
Why? It's not like Miami is this great sports town/city...
Wrecking ball is out and they are rebuilding.

Ross allowing them to trade Tunsil was bad enough. Fitzpatrick had a solid first year. What a shit show. And honestly if I was whomever they draft at QB next year I’d pull an Elway or Eli. They OL is NCAA level.

You’re really good at it
Johnson did something similar in Dallas in '89 with the Walker trade.
