A lot of people seemed surprised with the outcome in Dallas. I have said all along this is a 5-6 win team. If the wheels fall off Sunday what’s the fallout?
Obviously, the chatter regarding Jones will only intensify?
Will DG and Shurmur start to get heat yet again, for seeing this as a “retool, not rebuild season”?
Will this coaching staffs seats start to get warm ?
But they’re not going to lose.
Daniel Jones gets the start in Tampa, Bethea and possibly Ogletree are blamed, shamed and benched - we'll start seeing a LOT more of Connelly, Love and Ballentine.

Next season will be time to win some fucking games.
Til then, enjoy watching a few Barkley highlights each game. :)
I didn't expect the offense to be as stymied by the combination of the Dallas defense (not all that surprising) AND the lame playcalling / poor use of Barkley etc. I think we probably left 10 to 14 points on the table, which might have led to a closer game (still likely a loss).
This defense is going to need time to gel
There'll be no blowout this Sunday, its going to be a 20-17 game either way. Hopefully the Giants can figure out how to win this one because an 0-2 start for the third year in a row will be miserable

No I'm not surprised Dallas put up 30+. I am surprised by 5 straight. Alarmed.
We were HEALTHY.
This.
We can discuss being blown out if we get blown out. I don't think we're going to get blown out. It's the Bills... not the Patriots.
That said, I can see the Giants losing but not in a blow out. They need to be 2-2 after four games or Metlife is going to get ugly.
And, the Giants had opportunities to get back in the game in the first half that were squandered by poor playcalling and lack of use of Barkley.
Yes, the heat would be turned up on blowing it up if the game is non-competitive and they don't improve. I think they stay the course going into Tampa regardless.
If Tampa crushes them, the case could be made that DJ starts against the Redskins the following week.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Eli's record as a starter is 116-115. He is in danger of being a sub .500 starter for his career. I doubt that is on the minds in any decision but I thought it was interesting.
BBI has posted this same thing for 6 years. Give me a break
And more than likely if we lose it is because the defense stinks which means playing anyone including Jones at QB will mean nothing. I as a fan will be miserable because we lost but some of you will be happy because Jones played.
But to start these posts after 1 game is ridiculous.
Unfortunately, 3/4 of the NFL are better than the Giants right now... talent-wise.
The Bills are in the bottom 1/4 of the league w/ the Giants.
Unfortunately, the Giants will win this game, which will only assure one thing - the Bills will pick ahead of the Giants come April.

It's "unfortunate" for the Giants to win a game in week 2?
Maybe just don't bother if you're already rooting against your own team.

I struggle with this a lot.
I'm a Giants fan - I want them to win...but the realist (pessimist?) in me can't get past the fact that this franchise has been a consistent loser for quite some time now.
Does this make me a bad fan?
It's difficult for me to support some of the decisions the NYG are making right now.
Most of us said that this is a below .500 team. Most should also have known that it will take time for the young players to develop and for the team to gel.
This is gonna take time. And l can’t imagine that Jones starts until the season is in the dumps. That’s likely around midseason.

Dallas could have easily put up 50. I’d be surprised if we hold buf to u set 28
If we are rebuilding, why aren't we finding out if Jones is the QB of the future? If we are 'trying to win,' why trade every tradeable asset, leaving very little experience on the team?
The sooner it becomes apparent they are not really 'trying to win' the better.

How much more can they possibly "get on with the rebuild" ?
We're very clearly in the middle of one. People wanted this all torn down and rebuilt. That's what's going on here. It takes more than one season to do it.
They didn't draft DB's with a "coverage sack" fantasy in mind. They drafted them to cover. It didn't work out so well in Week 1... but Corey Ballentine barely played and Baker also did not start.
Antonio Hamilton was awful. There was a portion of the game where Prescott was quite literally just checking who he had in coverage and was attacking him specifically pass after pass and he couldn't stop anything. He should not be starting or even playing... but I guess they didn't feel the younger guys were quite ready for a full complement of snaps quite yet.
I expect a lot more Baker and Ballentine this week and a lot less Antonio Hamilton. He's not one of the guys we just drafted to improve the secondary and was one of the biggest culprits in the mess that went on back there last weekend.
Regardless, if you expected the secondary to look like a well-oiled machine right away, that was never going to happen.
Obviously they need to be a lot better than what they were last week. It's a work in progress back there and we're going to have to deal with some growing pains.
Half of Giants universe wanted Corey Webster gone before the light came on for him and he became a very good CB.
I certainly would hope we can compete against the likes of BUF, TB, WSH (twice), MIA, NYJ, DET & ARI. I expect to see progress as the season moves along.
4-12 would be a massive disappointment to me.
Also, if this team gets blown out by Buffalo, then we're probably at the same level as the Dolphins. Though the only hope is that the young players improve over the course of the year.

As a Giants fan 4-12 would be disappointing, but I think this team could easily be a 3-4 win team and still actually be moving in the right direction. Sometimes you have to eat years like that as part of the rebuilding process, especially when your roster was as rotten as ours has been.
There's ZERO doubt that this defense is currently worse than if it had Vernon, Snacks, Collins. Question is when if ever will Golden, Dexter, and Peppers bridge or exceed that gap.
Twist on the same question, is whether the net moves to improve the offense (O line, less OBJ, plus Tate) will yield more game points than what's lost on Defense.
Did the OL help the QB? Yes. Did the OL help the RB? Yes.
Do we have enough power on O to truly attack a defense? Yes and No. Can we overpower a defense? No. Can we strategically and methodically attack a defense? Yes.
As I see it now we have really bad to avg OCs/DCs and HC and since the brass replaced piss poor /w subpar there is where the most blame lies at this point ...
Another lose where we are not competitive would begin the circling of the wagon and calling for Eli's head which may not be warranted, however getting Jones seasoned would be ideal. Especially if Shurmur and Co could manage a game better with a QB that can rollout more effectively. But I ask this one question how is it that simply adding 1 type of play going to fix his inability to place together coherent game plans that take advatange of what is happening in the game in real-time?
Quote:
and no pass rusher selected doomed this season. The fantasy that drafting DB's will produce 'coverage' sacks is a fantasy. On Sunday we sent 5 and six guys and did not get close to Prescott. NOBODY can beat the guy in front of him. I don't think a blowout loss will change anything on Sunday. DG is hoping his 2019 picks will improve the team in 2020. This season we are a 4-5 win team.

I agree secondary will need time. To be clear the coverage sack fantasy was not a DG fantasy it was a BBI fantasy.
This isn’t 2013.
I just want to escape football. I think I get why some fans quit. It’s too fucking painful anymore. I wish I was just a causal fan and didn’t live and die with toilet stained team.

It doesn't need to be painful. Perspective helps...
