right now I have no confidence in this coaching staff, but we'll have 15 more games to see if they are good coaches. This, right now, this does not appear to be a well coached team, and in the NFL that means losing records.
And I would add Bethea to that list as well. I would rather Love cut his teeth earlier rather than later. I'll take the lumps while he learns but Bethea just looks toasty.
about best place for Jones to start and I disagree. If we lose this week and Eli has more bonehead plays or plays where he just seems to not pull the trigger then next week against TB is the place to start Jones.
TB's defense is not good, regardless of last night's result. If Newton even half looked like and half played like an NFL QB the Panthers win that game. Even with his horrible passes and no mobility the Panthers still could have won that game.
The Giants need to make the move to the future now. PS is calling plays and play schemes designed for a QB who is not Eli Manning. Jones's time is NOW!

I have no issue with that... I just don't see the Giants doing it.
Much appreciate through write-up of up-coming game... Â
Along with the Giants' LB's and 2ndary not seeming to know who they were supposed to cover, another Giants bugaboo was evident most of the game; not keeping contain at the edges. This tendency is a gift to opposing defenses!
Its pathetic to think the coaches didn't have our team ready for Dallas!
The Bills game is huge just to see if things are adjusted by the coaches to put our players in the best situations to succeed.

at 0-2 we are down to a 12% chance at playoffs(dead horse) If they want a spark, making a switch might just be the way to get one. I want the Giants to crush Buffalo, if they lose, I would actually be excited to watch a game Jones started. I have gone into games for the last 2 years with apprehension surrounding what kind of QB play we would get. It isn't fun.
Take a moment and let yourself feel what it might be like anticipating Jones 1st start. It feels better to me. I am very ready for something new. New is exciting to me.

The only reason I watch now is to see SB. The rest of the team, sans maybe Engram, is unwatchable.
I live in Buffalo and I actually enjoy Bill's games because they're a young rising team with a very talented QB and energetic coach. I just get a different vibe from them than the Giants. Put in Jones and I think that will spark an overall change with the Giants.
review. The biggest problem as you note is that our offense may not be able to move the ball well against their defense. I also agree with whoever said that Shurmur is essentially calling plays for a QB who isn't mobile enough to implement his offense.
The Bills should just try and contain Barkley and Engram, and blitz Eli as often as possible. A depleted WR corps needs more time to get separation, even in today's pass happy NFL. But that requires a mobile QB.
Thanks for the preview - great writeup! Agree with it 100%.
Here's a link to a writeup from the other side. I think it matches up with what many of us think (though it is probably a bit more positive about Eli than most on the site :)).
next week is going to be a difficult one for Eli. I'd not rush DJ into action too quickly. The Cardinals game makes sense if you are going to pull the trigger on Eli. As long as the offense is producing I think Eli gets through the NE game. Eli won't get benched before that because of a lousy defense.

It boils down to getting rid of ELi or getting rid of Shermur. Terrible that ownership foisted this situation on the team again.
Who the heck says sam darnold is gonna be better than D jones? Why is that etched in stone?
30,000-foot view: Many fans and analysts have correctly lamented the Giants’ big personnel decisions the past two years. The NFL is a quarterback-driven league. Yet the Giants passed on Sam Darnold with the No. 2 pick last year and drafted Barkley. The running back's greatness is undeniable. But good quarterbacks are so much harder to find and have more impact on winning. The Giants could have drafted Darnold and still “settled” for any number of quality backs in the draft the past two years, like Nick Chubb or Josh Jacobs. The Giants gave receiver Odell Beckham Jr. a big contract extension, then traded him less than a year later – after swallowing his entire $20 million signing bonus on their cap. This year they drafted Daniel Jones No. 6 overall, who nobody valued as highly as Darnold. Then by sticking with Manning this year, the Giants are delaying the benefit they get from Barkley’s rookie contract. It’s likely Barkley will use up three years of his cheap rookie deal before Jones gets 16 starts in the NFL.
It appears that Bills are a little banged up in the secondary Â
too. If Giants don’t win this game, I don’t see them going to Tampa and winning there either. Tampa is no powerhouse, but at home they’re pretty formidable. Giants could start the season 0-3 and the calls for DJ will start to get loud!
Ala in like fashion vs Dalass, are they stupid enough to keep going thru a lost season trotting out Eli. Seripusly, I have no idea why Eli wanted to comeback to this situation ONLY to loyally finish as a NY Giant. Plus guy each time is severely hindering his chances for HOF which now has become borderline at best with losing.

If we’re sitting at 0-3, I don’t think they’ll insert Jones at Washington in week 4 though. The 2 after that are likely losses (Vikings, at Pats) then a 10
day break. If we’re 0-6 or 1-5, trotting Eli out vs Arizona is absolute lunacy.

Agreed. I just think people will be clamoring for DJ if we get to 0-3.
in about 40 total snaps. his last fumble, where he attempted to muscle through a pile of dallas defenders with his shoulder, in garbage time, was comically dumb.
his passes in the game were two checkdowns and an almost-interception. sure, every rookie needs to take their lumps, but anyone thinking he'd be better than eli has to be hoping, rather than basing it on objective reality
you're missing the point. jones needs experience. this is about the future, not this year.
and eli isn't helping anymore either. how many times do we need to see eli throwing too early (wheel route to barkley) or not seeing open receivers down the field (intentional grounding play)?

That’s some ticky tack bullshit. If they throw Jones in there you’ll be bitching about more than two plays.
Gettleman will probably handle Eli like he did the vets he jettisoned before the trade deadline last year. If the season is toast by the midway point they probably throw Jones in there to take his lumps. Maybe Eli waives the NTC and the Giants get a pick for him.
I think it’s going to take a terrible start to get there though. Probably 2-6 or worse.

As an aside, I'm glad you brought into question whether or not the Giants have the right coaching staff in place.
Here is my very rough schedule of odds that Shurmur is still Head Coach in next season (based on wins this season):
9 to 16 Wins: 100% Chance
8 Wins: 95% Chance
6 to 7 Wins: 90% Chance
5 Wins: 75% Chance
4 Wins: 50% Chance
3 Wins: 25% Chance
2 Wins: 10% Chance
1 Win: 5% Chance
0 Wins: 0% Chance
Can't spell.
