NFT: Yankees at Blue Jays 15 Sept - Montgomery Returns

section125 : 9/15/2019 12:18 pm
Good Morning all. Nice beating yesterday. Between the Yanks and Giants will be streaming the Gmen and watching the Yanks on MLB.TV

Monty starting and Dellin in uniform. I'd expect to see him today. Maybe after Montgomery - 60 pitches is expectation.

I'll follow with lineups.

I thought I heard he was starting too, but he’s coming in after Green.
A not-terribly surprising struggle for Mongomery

Betances looked pretty sharp though

Yep. Monty not too bad. Thought his stuff was pretty good. Betances looked like Betances. Thought he could have thrown to another batter, but they have their plan.
It was the classic TJS return scenario

Stuff looked good, but his command was off. Left several pitches right over the heart of the plate.

Yep, but I'll take it. He still has to get confidence in the arm along with his control back. It will be good to have a 26/27 y/o starter come spring time.

Hope to see Sevy pitch well Tuesday evening.

Heller looked better this time too. Cannot imagine how amped they must be to come all the way back from that surgery and get on that MLB mound. How much adrenaline and trepidation/excitement that must bring.

.

The good news is he got some work in this September,
results not that important with the lead they have.
I would expect he get a couple starts this month.
I wonder how hard they're pursuing homefield...

the Twins would seem to be a more favorable matchup than either of the Wildcard teams, even with Manaea or whoever is atop the Rays rotation at the end of the year pitching the WC game. Certainly facing Houston at home would be an advantage, but you've got to get there first.
Dunno about that, the Yankees have mostly owned TB this year

They have...

I'm more concerned about the A's though. 2-4 isn't much of a sample size, but we haven't played well against them.
That, I agree with

Just be glad the damned Blue Jays won't be there.
What looked good about his "stuff"

They were hitting rockets off him from the first batter. His pitches had zero movement. I can't imagine he's in the post season plans. Let him get a few innings the next two weeks and then be ready for ST next year. Betances on the other hand even with 3-4 mph off his fastball looked like he can help right away.
no shit, Randall
Greg from LI : 9/16/2019 9:33 am : link
They were hitting rockets because he was leaving pitches over the plate. He got movement on his breaking ball and his fastball velocity was the same as before he was injured. His command just sucked, which is very common when returning from TJ
Didn't watch because I was at the Giants game

but it seems the best thing comingg out of it was the nice return of Betances. Hopefully 2 weeks will be enough time for him to be close to himself by the playoffs. Booney has been superb not over working guys at all but still Kahnle and Otto aren't looking quite as sharp as they were earlier so Betances could be a big boost.
