Dramatic week 2 overreaction, but, is there any scenario

where the Giants brass fire Shurmur?

He has a terrible Head Coaching record, he is not winning in New York and his play calling and staff are questionable at best.

That being said, the roster was in complete shambles when he took over. A young, promising rookie QB has been drafted and Shurmur has had a nice career coaching young, promising QBs. The Mara’s are loyal to a fault.

I was very wrong about this particular team, it is going nowhere. So if the team goes somewhere between 0-3 wins, would the regime be changed? Or is Shurmur going to get the benefit of the rebuild and be guaranteed a third year.

no one realistically had the giants pegged to compete this year and jones has looked good so far - albeit in preseason and garbage time. think it makes sense to give shurmur and jones a full season next year.

They would be crazy to guarantee anyone anything at this point. Â

That's why Jones has to start right away. Continuing along with Eli doesn't allow them to judge whether Shurmur is the right man for the job going forward.

They have re-made the entire defense to reflect "Bettcher's system." If they fire him they will need to throw out 2 years worth of drafting/FA signings.
Bettcher gets another year as well, so long as the young players make progress during the year.

Shurmur is fighting for his HC life. He won't get another chance unless things turn around here. Likely won't turn around fast enough.

no one's getting fired this year unless it's a McAdoo-level meltdown. 2020 is their last chance to turn it around, I think.

I can see the DB and DL coaches getting replaced if there are no Â

I think that would be the case with most teams, and out team in particular shies away from quick hooks.

He got four years in 2016 and is being paid in 2019. Probably so is Reese. Schurmur got a five year deal in 2018. Mara isn't paying for another GM or coach for at least two years. Get used to the losing until 2022.

Ever wonder why Reese or McAdoo haven't found work? It's because they don't need to. Still on Giants payroll.

The defensive talent is abysmal. The offense today had no starting calibre WRs, the QB had a bad game, the OL is barely average, and Barkley can't win the game himself.
Shurmer is not setting the world on fire with his play calling but it's hard to see that getting rid of him will win any more games this year.
Time to pretend we're dolphin fans and start looking at the next draft.
