New York's culture is showing

Clearly frustration building w/Giants defense. “When you got time and get no pressure, I can’t cover nobody for 10 seconds?” Janoris Jenkins said. “Who can cover somebody for 10 seconds?” When Lorenzo Carter was asked about QBs having too much time, he said: “Sh**, it’s true.”

Angry Jackrabbit: "We have to make some changes, we have to make fixes. Everybody has to make corrections. Like I said, he can’t just stand back there and pat the ball with no pressure."

"I can’t cover nobody for 10 secs. Who can cover somebody for 10 secs? Go look at the first 5 seconds of the route, he’s not open. If there ain't no pressure, what do you want me to do? I can’t cover this side & that side. Like, come on, bro. You gotta play football around here."

"It’s the same thing, man. He’s sitting there patting the ball. We have to get pressure on him. Second half we made adjustments. If we give any quarterback 5, 8 seconds in the pocket, he’s going to find open receivers. It’s football. "
And so it begins....

as the losses pile on, the bullshit will only get worse. For those who are anti-Shurmer, this might actually be good news.

Probably for an 8th rounder and a bottle of TUMS.
Losing trumps culture every time

Winning trumps “distractions” or whatever the fuck some call it.

Antonio Brown is the biggest asshole, diva lunatic in the game. Yet his teams ALWAYS win.

No, Jack Rabbit will be gone, even if he is right. But the rush was much better this week than last. They could have had 6 sacks if it wasn't for Allen running for his life.

But I understand the glee of all the "I told you so" posters.
I’m glad some one is angry

I'm Jenkins' biggest critic, but he has played well these two games.

The Giants had the best edge rush they've had in a few years today. Carter, Golden, and Ximines had nice shots at the QB, and had 3 combined sacks.

Shows once again it's the number of isolated sacks from the edge, it's really about the percentage of snaps and general pressure out on the QB.

I don't see Hill or Lawrence breaking into the pocket much at all.
Oh Eric
oldutican : 9/15/2019 5:25 pm : link
The culture is set by ownership. Keep recycling coaches and GMs because Mara is comfortable with them. Get rid of talented players cause they don’t fit the old school Giant ways. Let sentiment not hard judgements impact personnel decisions on the field and mgt. I have no faith Giants can compete with smarter and more aggressive owners and GMs as long as Mara is in charge.

Jenkins deserved the gameball last game, he was setting the edge and making the tackles, a tall task for a man press corner.

It was Peppers turn to get steamrolled by a 2nd level guard and poorly set edges this week.
We don't have to watch Odell pretend to pee like a dog anymore.

Yes yes, if only we still had Beckham throwing tantrums on the sidelines. That would fix us right up. Damn them old fashioned Giants!

sake. Receivers have been running wide open due to busted coverage.

But I'd rather hear that than "we'll go back to the drawing board, prepare hard and compete hard next week. We are close, just need to execute better."

Lose, repeat, lose, repeat.
Also, I know we are playing a 3-4, but putting three NT's out there

He was following the example set by his coach
Mike in Boston : 9/15/2019 6:24 pm : link
I didn't want to say anything, since I criticize the coaching and management enough as it is. But what do you think it was when Bettcher said "the players have to win one-on-one's" when he was asked if he should be doing more to get pressure. if you're a leader and you get asked something like that the only answer is "I have to do a better job". It doesn't matter that what he said was true; you still don't shift blame to the people you are leading. At least not in public.

I'm not sure that I entirely agree with you, but this coaching staff has a track record of excuse-making. Last year Shurmur was real hot to point out that he took over a 5-win team the previous year.
STFU Jenkins!

I saw the same thing, it prompted me to post that maybe the culture above the players isn't the greatest either. Everyone keeps talking rebuild and the mess they found, how other people need to do a better job. There's always some redirection at play, and it seems as if they're resolved to this being a losing campaign and that not being that big a deal. That's not the way to rebuild.
Trade him
ripdumaine : 9/15/2019 6:39 pm : link
For speaking the truth? He hasn't played bad, its impossible to cover that long with no pressure or letting the qb extend plays for that long.
2nd & 9 at BUF 3
shyster : 9/15/2019 6:42 pm : link
(11:18 - 2nd) J.Allen pass short left to J.Brown to BUF 18 for 15 yards (Ja.Jenkins).

Think this was play that got JJ riled. Brown had time to sell him on a deep route, then come way back to make the catch.

Was a key point in the game; got the Bills off the goal line after the downed punt, and a few plays later they finished off the 98 yard TD drive.
If you think Jenkins hasn’t played as bad as the rest of the defense
gmenrule-va : 9/15/2019 6:44 pm : link
The. We must be watching different games. Plus he has value on the trade market and we need any value we can get because our defense is terrible. I can’t point to a play this season where I can say he did a great job. He wa getting beat in one on one coverage today.

If you think he has been terrible, why do you think he has trade value?
Is the question about him having value a serious question ?
gmenrule-va : 9/15/2019 7:02 pm : link
He is a veteran and I think it is commonly recognized that teams will take a chance that a change in scenery will make a difference. I just don’t get how anyone can argue that Jenkins is doing his job on this defense. He has gotten beat just like everyone else. His comments are like the waiter on the Titanic who said it wasn’t his fault they hit the iceberg because he was doing his job. Bad excuse in a team sport IMHO.

Lol so he sucks, but a change of scenery is going to improve a cornerback's play? He's 30, if he has been bad he has no trade value. The only issue is he hasn't been bad. Targeted last week 7 times he gave up 33 yards in a game where the QB threw for 400. Today he gave up a couple first down, but he was from bad today.
Don’t you think he wants
oldutican : 9/15/2019 7:10 pm : link
to be traded? Wouldn’t you?
Everyone on defense can play better to varying degrees
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/15/2019 7:16 pm : link
He's played about as well as you can considering QBs have all day in the pocket.
Culture and coaches are all distraction in this case
adamg : 9/15/2019 7:27 pm : link
Coaching can make a difference to the extent it gets you better talent. But outside of Billy B, there aren't a lot of coaches who are way ahead of the pack.

But talent is irreplaceable. And talent is the source of our problems.

Eli is done. And we have no edge rushers. We traded away all our edge talent (JPP, Vernon, Kennard, Okwara) and in return we got BJ Hill and Zeitler. Not a great resource swap.

We do have cap space going forward though. And edge and OL should be the priority for that.
OK Zeke’s you are right
gmenrule-va : 9/15/2019 7:41 pm : link
He is the best defender on a team going nowhere so he has tremendous value so trade him !
